GameCube owners Beware!! The PS2 version is noticeably better!! I gave the PS2 version an 8.6 instead of 7.0!!

I originally bought this game for the GameCube and found two problems with it that were so glaring that I ended up going back to the store to exchanged it for the PS2 version. Problem #1 – This was briefly mentioned in the GameSpot official review. It read, “The GameCube version also occasionally shows seams between its polygons, which makes it look slightly worse than the others…” I found this problem to be more than occasional. It really detracted from the experience as a whole. Problem #2 – Since you can not change the controller’s layout, you are forced to use the R button as a trigger for firing your weapons. Unlike the PS2’s R1 button, the GameCube’s “clicks” every time you depress it. Admittedly, you don’t have to depress the button all the way down to get a round off, however, when you’re in the midst of a furious firefight, do you really want to waste time judging the approximate depression of your right index finger relative to the button’s closeness to the controller? I didn’t. Perhaps on paper problem #2 may not seem all that annoying, however, I found it to really detract from the overall experience. Having to feel a “click” every time I wanted to shoot off a single round with the pistol became incredibly noticeable…fast. I highly recommend getting the PS2 version over the GameCube. However, if you think these things won’t be an issue for you, then by all means, you should get it. It’s otherwise a very good game. One thing to take into account, though – there is no targeting. I’m used third person shooters that have a target at all times in front of me that I'm able to manipulate. This game forces you to constantly auto-target, meaning all you have to do is face toward the enemy and fire and pretty much every bullet will hit its mark. And while this might seem too easy, the developers heightened other aspects of the difficulty to make up for this. I didn’t like it at first, but came to overlook it since the game as a whole is really very good. I have nothing more to add to the GameSpot review other than these three things. I agree with pretty much everything else that was said. It’s a lot of fun if you’re into this type of game and definitely worth playing...on the PS2. * Note – Additionally, it should be mentioned that I am not biased toward one system over another. I like the PS2 and the GameCube pretty much equally. In fact, most times I prefer the GameCube’s graphics over the PS2’s, which is why I purchased this version first. Consider this an objective opinion based on subjective tastes in two areas only (polygon seams and button “clicking”).
