User Rating: 9.3 | Freedom Fighters PS2
Ever thought that Real Time Strategy Games are a bit tedious? Ever thought that the guys you manufacture and lead aren't up to par, can't shoot straight and never ever overcome impossible odds? I certainly do, and although I do like the idea of bossing people around with my joy pad, I just need more hands on action. Freedom fighters has been praised for alot of reasons, and for good reason. The game is basically a tactical shooter combined with RTS, and it works beautifully. During the course of the game, you recruit fighters that, on your orders, will provide cover, supporting fire, hold positions or charge enemies. Fighting's intense, but controls and commands are simple and easy to learn. The qulity of the different challenges and street fights that you encounter are highly dependant on the level design and enemy AI. The AI is OK, but you do learn how to trick the various opponents after a while. On a few occasions, you end up in situations whare everything really comes together and you have to use all your skills and brains to get your freedom fighters through. At these times, the game is absolutely among the most rewarding I've ever played. I do hope that there's a sequel, and that the developers spend more time and effort creating these open ended street fights. You need to play it.
