Classic action at a bargain price.
Frogger is a game of days long ago, and plays like it. Many things that would have been easily improved, have not been. Whether this is for the sake of preserving a classic or not, is unkown.
Hit-detection is still a issue, Frogger will be dying when there is a visible gap between you and a car, and this can get quite frustrating. Learning to play with this "setback" is key, as Frogger is a game of timing.
The graphics come in two version: original and updated. Both are pretty similar, but the updated do round out some edges and clear a few things up. Still, nothing breath-taking or anything.
The gameplay is rather simple, but takes patience and a lot of practice. You move a little frog about across a street, then on logs to the other side of a river.
As you progress through levels, cars become more frequent and move faster, and obstacles litter the river (snakes, beavers, crocodiles).
The sound is a bit lacking, with music only playing when you die, start a new game, or make it home. While you are hopping about, everything is silent, which is very dissapointing.
Frogger isn't much, with only game-mode offline and a few online modes, but everything boils down to be the same thing. The online modes do tend to be laggy most of the time, so they really are not that much fun. Still, at $5, it is rather fun. Those who want to re-live some childhood memories will be pleased with the remake, and those of the new generation should give it a look. Even over the years, Frogger still is fun.
