If you like "mech" genre, the game is a lot of fun...

whoever the gamespot staff was that gave this game review must be the same dork that gave halo:reach a 9.5... first of all a 5.5 SCORE?!?!?! people, its not that bad. is the game AMAZING???? no, its just ok. i know the reviewer's score is a matter of opinion but obviously they are being biased because its no where near the critics score or the gaming community's score. im not a fan of the mech genre by any means but i did grow up ion the 80's loving robotech and also grew up loving the mechwarrior games. but thats my entire robot experience (except for chromehounds on the 360 which was awesome and we arent getting a sequel -sad face-) so hopefully i can give you a honest review of the goods and bads.

GOOD:
-the game is fun. customizable giant mechs that cruise around blowing crap up is awesome.

-sounds of machine guns and rockets, and mechs motors all are cool.
game music sets an appropriate mood for the situation.

-depending on the difficulty you can really change the way the game is played. if 3rd person action games are tough for you, then put it on easy and you can get away with almost any mech combination. put it on standard and you have to be careful what you choose. put it on hard and you almost have to be die-hard and knowledgeable to get through the game with the correct mech combo.

-Multiplayer. this is a big deal. i didnt touch the multiplayer until i finished the campaign and its awesome. 4 different play modes that i can recall at the moment. deathmatch, team deathmatch, a domination type game, and a 4th called supremacy. the only thing better than cruising around blowing stuff up is cruising around blowing up other peoples mechs. im loving the multiplayer right now. and it keeps you coming back with a cool reward system similar to modern warfare.

The Ok's

-graphics. they don't look bad but they arent on par with some of the newer next gen stuff. nothinh is alive or happening in any of the environments except for mechs and air support fighting. in fact the only thing that moves are trees in the wind. although any cars and poles/lights you hit smash, or blow up. my first assumption was that they were purposely going for more of an arcade look. not to mention the combat can be extremely fast. i couldnt imagine a game as pretty as GT5 or halo doing as much stuff on screen so fast without your 360 or ps3 dying of a heart attack. and the action is constant enough that you don't notice the graphics. its not that big of a deal. and it shouldn't be. fun games are just fun, regardless of its polish and shine.

-story. its just ok. the cutscenes are just ok. i watched all the scenes without skipping them. i was interested in what was happening and it wasnt stupid or corny material. but the story isnt compelling enough to have any replay value. or the campaign for that matter.

Bad

-on foot combat. a few times throughout the campaign you switch to on foot combat and it is pretty weak. but its short and tolerable and easy. not a big deal and it doesnt make the game a deal breaker to not buy it.

-starting a multiplayer game. sometimes can be slow. you que up and wait in a lobby. and i constantly watch noobs dropping in and out of que taking as long as 5-7mins and its annoying. sometimes people jump right in and it fires up in less than 2 mins. obviously peek nighttime/late afternoon hours are faster with heavier traffic.

Final thoughts: the game is much closer to a 7 than gamespots lame 5.5 if you were interested in the game go pick it up and you wont be disappointed. more fun than halo's old played out multiplayer. if you want something fresh and new your going to enjoy this.
