Freedom, creativity, kind people, live service... what more could you want in a game? The only limit is your imagination
That changed within the first 10 minutes.
I logged in, and upon entering character creation I was given the choice of being several types of animalistic creatures:
Bovine
Bugge
Canine
Equine
Feline
Lapine
Musteline
Rodent
Sciurine/Mephit
Ursine
Being a dog/wolf lover, I naturally chose Canine. I had many color choices for customization, however I was in no way allowed to change the physical appearance of my character. Yet.
Moving away from character creation, I found myself in-world where I was promptly greeted by what appeared to be a helpful player. They offered to tour me around Furcadia. Surprised and slightly taken aback by the sudden offer, I agreed. We ended up spending over 2 hours together, where I got a full tour and explanation on how things worked around this place.
As it turns out, Furcadia boasts a system of real life humans known as Beekins. The Beekin's are devided into subcategories of Helpers, Welcomers, Bugges, Scribes etc. These all make a complete community of volunteering furres who dedicate their time to helping other players in a whole range of subjects, including assisting newer folks in learning the way of the land.
Furcadia itself is not without entertaining activities to do, either! The game has a unique feature where players are allowed to create miniature worlds, called "Dreams", and upload them on almost any of the main maps. Players can create "Patches" for their Dreams, which gives them power over customization. As if this wasn't enough, they can also add their own sounds and coding (using an easy to learn language known as "Dragon Speak") to create effects, make objects interactable, or simply to improve the life of their Dream.
Revisiting my previous statement about character customization, we find that it is indeed possible to change your looks! Each avatar, by default, stands on two legs (Anthropomorphic) and has a default avatar portrait. However, it is quite possible to change both of these given that you pay for them. Portraits are $5 dollars each, and give you the ability to upload your own photo, while avatar feature changes known as "Digos" can be anywhere from $20 a year to $50 for a lifetime change.
Many Digos host feral animals, such as Dragons, Wolves, Lions or Owls.
The community of Furcadia, as well as Furcadia itself, is constantly changing and updating. There is a unique RolePlaying system in place with real fighting and games if you put enough effort into finding it. Furcadia is certainly worthy of 10/10, not for perfection, but for lack of imperfection.
