Sierra has worked its magic again with this adventure/horror game!
Genre Horror/adventure gaming
Developer: Sierra
Release date 93/94(CD)
As an avid adventure gamer, I am very picky about my games. Yes, I play Zork and other text-based games, which makes me hard core i suppose. However, Gabriel Knight fits in my "Play it or i'll come after you" section. The story, which like the other reviewers on this page, I won't give away. Its a great story though, just trust me on that.
Graphics: This game was released in 1994, which does mean dated graphics. Some sprites in certain spots in the game are very pixilated, but its easy to deal with as it rarely happens. Cut scenes have great artwork and are impressive. I can wholeheartedly say that for 1994 these graphics get the job done and get it done well.
Gameplay: The point and click interface works well in this game. Also, when you talk to NPC's an iterface screen appears. You have certain topics that you can speak to characters with, then if they tell you something new, a new topic appears in a new color. Puzzles are done well and do not make you feel like A) a complete moron or B) like you are being treated like a kid.
Sound: Great music. The music fits the mood of New Orleans and the many other places you visit. I have the soundtrack myself and listen to it every now and then. The voice overs are great. Mark Hammel even makes an apperence! No charater feels dull or unemotional. Great acting, great music, great sound effects!
NOTE: if you have the floppy version, there is no voice acting.
Overall: This game is a blast. Plot changes, the acting, the music, the plot, the music, the plot, the....well, you get it. I reccomend this game. It is one of the best adventure games ever made!
