Galerians: Ash has a good story, good characters, and a good concept. It just fell apart somewhere along the way.

User Rating: 6.5 | Galerians: Ash PS2
Galerians: Ash (and Galerians in general) has really good characters, and the story itself is pretty interesting. The idea behind the gameplay is pretty good too, but only the idea is good. The actual execution of it isn't so great. It feels broken, and playing the game starts to feel more like a chore than entertainment.

Graphics - 6/10
They're nothing beautiful, but they're aren't totally painful to look at either. Environments are pretty generic looking and the in-game character models aren't all that details. The CGI scenes are pretty good, however, even if they are a bit short at times.

Characters - 8/10
I'm a sucker for good characters, and the cast of Galerians: Ash kept me interested. They're all pretty unique, including the baddies. Unfortunately, I wish that the "villains" had a little bit more development than what they got. In general, the characters could be considered a little bit flat in comparison to other games, but they are still interesting, with good stories and personalities to go with them.

Plot - 7/10
If you haven't played the original Galerians (or at least seen the movie version), then you will be left a bit confused in the beginning of this game.
But now that Dorothy has been defeated, she has released what are called "The Last Galerians," which is a new batch of Galerians designed to destroy humans. As Rion, you are tossed back and forth, reject of the Galerians and untrusted by humans. Really, he has nowhere left to go. But he takes matters into his own hands, and despite what the humans say, he shows up when one of the Last Galerians does, since he is the only one that can really defeat them. But the plot doesn't go much past this. It's a Point A to Point B kind of game, even with the plot. A lot of it consists of running to different areas to defeat another Galerian as they show up.

Gameplay - 6.5/10
For the most part, it's funny and pretty simple. However, in battles, your attacks are easily interrupted which can make even the simplest attack extremely frustrating. During just normal gameplay, it is all "go from Point A, to Point B, back to Point A, to Point C" the entire time. There are a lot of "fetch quests" which get to be quite tedious, and there is a lot of doing nothing but running long distances to get somewhere to do something minor that will advance the story.
When you're actually fighting, the gameplay can be quite fun. It's all the rest of the times that the game feels like a chore.

Voice Acting - 6/10
Some of it's decent, and some of it just flat-out awful. Simple as that, really.

Music - 5/10
I can't say anything really stood out to me. It wasn't really bad music, but it wasn't anything that will go down in video game soundtrack history.

Replay value?
There isn't really any unless you simply want to reply for the fun of it.

Overall?
Galerians: Ash had potential. It's not exactly a bad game but it's not a good game either. It's somewhere in the middle that will either catch your attention or turn you away rather quickly. I enjoyed it, however, the irritating (and sometimes boring) gameplay finally sent me packing despite liking the characters and having a mild interest still in the story.
