AMD teamed up with XFX to send us its new AMD Radeon RX 470 graphics card. The new GPU is the second member of AMD's Polaris family and follows the company's mid-range RX 480. The RX 470 starts at $179 and the general specs for the card are as follows:

    TFLOPS

    Up to 4.9

    Stream Processors

    2048

    Compute Units

    GPU (Boost/Base)

    1206MHz/926MHz

    Memory Bandwidth

    211GB/s

    Data Rate (Effective)

    6.6Gbps

    Memory Size

    4GB GDDR5

    Memory Bit-rate

The RX 470 is out today and AMD claims that the card is able to run Battlefield 4, Doom, Fallout 4, Hitman, and Total War Warhammer all above 60 frames per second on their respective ultra settings at 1080p. We'll be verifying those claims in the coming days. In the meantime, check out our pics in the gallery ahead.

While the RX 470 will start at $179, the 4GB XFX model that you see here retails for $219.99. This actually prices it above AMD's 4GB RX 480 reference design, which starts at $199.99. XFX asserts that the added cost is due to the premium cooling system the card uses. The card is also is factory overclocked to 1256MHz, which is a four percent boost over the GPU's stock clock.

In terms of ports, the XFX's RX 470 features three DisplayPorts, one HDMI, and one DVI port.

XFX's RX 470 requires a single six-pin power connector. The company is also recommending a 550-watt PSU to supplement it.

One thing that makes XFX's RX 470 model here interesting is that you can easily snap off the fans. XFX will sell LED fans that you can swap in.

Here's the card with both of the fans removed.

XFX's RX 470 has a decent amount of copper heat pipes and heat sinks to help keep the card cool.

The metal back plate also helps to dissipate the card's heat.
