How to romance Gennojo in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Gennojo first appears as part of the campaign arc where you hunt down The Fool member of the Shinbakufu. Here's a quick summary:

• You must find and speak with Ise Sadatame and the Messenger. You're introduced to Gennojo during this portion, though he does disappear in a cloud of smoke.
• You then have to complete an assassination board where your targets are members of the Takahashi Clan. This is part of the Twisted Tree quest.
• Later, you should be able to eliminate The Fool. Be sure to play as Naoe during this part so that Gennojo can make a remark about how the two of them are good together. Respond with: "You might be right."
• This leads to Gennojo's personal side quest called Sake and Swords.

Note: Gennojo is also a recruitable ally/companion, which means you can summon him in battle so he can use his abilities.

The good thing about the Assassin's Creed Shadows Gennojo romance is that most quest locations are automatically marked on your map. For the first quest, Sake and Swords, simply head to southeast from Kyoto to reach a village near Ogura Pond. Talk to Gennojo and take out the ronin that attack the duo.

Romance replies:

• Before the battle: "Depends what you're offering."
• After the battle: "Show me, thief."

The next quest takes place in the northern part of Kyoto. Gennojo wants you to find a scroll in Kubo Sama Old Residence. Simply hold down the aim button and investigate the glowing blue markers until you obtain the scroll.

Romance reply after giving the scroll to Gennojo: "I'm keeping it then" - Note that this reply here is one requirement to get Gennojo to join you later as a recruitable ally.

The next portion if you want to romance Gennojo in Assassin's Creed Shadows requires you to head to Kiyomizudera in southeastern Kyoto. However, when you reach the meeting spot, Gennojo is nowhere to be found.

At this point, you need to follow the blood trail on the road that leads further to the west. Eventually, you'll stumble upon a small hut where Gennojo is being accosted by two soldiers. Eliminate both threats and untie Gennojo.
