Do you want to romance Ibuki in Assassin's Creed Shadows? This ronin doesn't trust Yasuke due to how he had served Oda Nobunaga in the past. However, you might be able to convince them that you've changed for the better.
How to romance Ibuki in Assassin's Creed Shadows
Unlike other romance arcs in the game, which are tied to Shinbakufu quest chains, your encounter with Ibuki is actually part of a self-contained side quest. Likewise, there are some notable decisions that you need to make, and errors might lead to abject failure, too.
- Ibuki can only be romanced by Yasuke, so you have to switch to him prior to their first meeting in the Ambush Interrupted quest.
- Ibuki has a permanent "fail state" where you'd be unable to recruit them. Think of this as choosing the good responses/outcomes versus the bad responses/outcomes.
- If you select a mix of good and bad, then you're still in the clear. However, if you end up with all the bad replies/outcomes, then Ibuki won't join you at all.
- There are a few romance-related (i.e. heart icon responses) throughout your meetings. The romance scene itself occurs after you've recruited Ibuki into the League.
Ibuki map locations
You can see the related locations for the Assassin's Creed Shadows Ibuki romance and recruitment. These objectives take place in the Iga region, so try to be at level 20 or higher so the enemies don't cause too much trouble.
Quest 1: Ambush Interrupted
Head to Kashiyama Village in the southern part of the Hijiyama area. Switch to Yasuke and talk to Ibuki, who'll then question the samurai about his deeds when he still served Oda Nobunaga.
- Good reply: "I have changed."
- Bad reply: "I was following orders."
After this, you have to fight half a dozen bandits in the fields. When you're done, talk to Ibuki and make another decision regarding the villagers that are arguing.
- Good reply: "I would forgive him."
- Bad reply: "I would exile him."
Quest 2A: Homecoming - Kyobei and Nakatomi
Make your way just outside Hijiyama Fort, which is in the northern portion of the Hijiyama area. There are several things that could go wrong here, so make sure that you get the right outcomes if you're planning on recruiting and/or romancing Ibuki in Assassin's Creed Shadows.
Romance reply when you're talking to Ibuki outside Hijiyama Fort: "I am here to help."
Next, you have to enter Hijiyama Fort to rescue Ibuki's old pal, Kyobei. He's about to get executed by the base commander, Nakatomi.
- Good reply: "Fight with us, Kyobei!"
- Bad reply: "Kyobei is too weak."
Then, once the battle against Nakatomi commences, you have to make sure that you kill Nakatomi before she can finish off Kyobei. If Nakatomi hits him a couple of times, he'll likely end up dead.
Quest 2B: Homecoming - Recruiting Ibuki into the League
You should then see another marker where you have to meet with Ibuki. Talk to them at the cliffside and reply with: "Your mind works in beautiful ways."
After this, you should be able to recruit Ibuki by responding with: "You don't have to be alone."
Again, this all depends on your decisions/what transpired in the previous quests. Any mix of good and bad results is fine, but try to avoid the combination below. If all four of these happened in your playthrough, then Ibuki will refuse to join your team:
- "I was following orders."
- "I would exile him."
- "Kyobei is too weak."
- Kyobei died in battle against Nakatomi.
Quest 3: Putting Down Roots
It's time to conclude the Assassin's Creed Shadows Ibuki romance. Assuming you've recruited them into the League, then you'll be able to seal the deal as Yasuke. Here's what you need to do next:
- Fast travel back to your hideout and talk to Ibuki. Reply with: "You have lovely eyes."
- You'll need to pick some flower seeds for them. The three flower seeds can be found just past the bridge to the east of Kashiwara Village, where your first met Ibuki.
- Two of the flower seeds are on the fields, but the third is in a bandit camp.
- Deliver the items to Ibuki, then reply with: "I want more than friendship."
The above leads to an intimate scene between Yasuke and Ibuki. In any case, don't forget that Ibuki is just one of several romance options in the campaign. There are also other recruitable allies/companions.
