Are you hoping to make an ally of Oni-Yuri in Assassin's Creed Shadows? This young lady from Wakasa has earned the ire of townsfolk, who are blaming her for villagers who've gotten sick. Of course, Naoe and Yasuke could step in, but the two protagonists also have their doubts. Our guide discusses how Oni-Yuri can join your League in the game.
How to recruit Oni-Yuri in Assassin's Creed Shadows - Ally guide
Unlike allies such as Yaya, Katsuhime, and Gennojo, your encounter with Oni-Yuri isn't part of a lengthy arc where you have to take on the Shinbakufu members. Instead, you just need to start a side quest called Sweet Lies. There's just one small problem: This quest takes place in the Wakasa region, which has enemies that are level 29 and above. If you're underleveled, then heading to this place is a bad idea. However, if you predominantly play as Naoe and you enable the "Guaranteed Assassinations" setting, then you might have a shot at completing certain tasks.
How Oni-Yuri's recruitment works
Here are a few tips to remember if you want to make an ally of Oni-Yuri in Assassin's Creed Shadows:
- If you're asked to choose to play/fight as Yasuke or Naoe, choose Naoe.
- If you're supposed to respond as either Yasuke or Naoe, choose Naoe.
Basically, Naoe should be your choice all the way. That's because she replies to Oni-Yuri in a calm manner, whereas Yasuke is more gruff and extremely suspicious.
Oni-Yuri quest locations
The map above shows the locations of Oni-Yuri's personal quests: Sweet Lies (Quest 1) and Sweet Revenge (Quest 2A and 2B). Most of the tasks occur in the Sotomo Gate area of the Wakasa region, which happens to be the northwesternmost edge of the world map. Note that you're also going to head to this area if you're attempting to romance Katsuhime, so you might as well tag nearby fast travel points.
Quest 1: Sweet Lies
Upon arriving in Tsuruga, you'll see a commotion as the townsfolk blame Oni-Yuri, the daughter of a pirate, for poisoning their food. Here's what you need to do:
- Naoe reply: "There is no evidence."
- Character selection: Play as Naoe.
- Investigate the tavern and check out the utensils and leftover food.
- Naoe reply: "There is still no evidence."
- Character selection: Play as Naoe.
Quest 2A: Sweet Revenge - Oni-Yuri's home and lost bag
Next up is the Sweet Revenge side quest:
- Head to the beach and speak with Oni-Yuri in her hut.
- Return to Tsuruga Sea Port and check the warehouse that's also a restricted area. You'll find her lost bag inside the small building off to the side.
- Give the bag back to Oni-Yuri.
Quest 2B: Sweet Revenge - Talk to the pirate
To find the pirate, take note of the clues--i.e. He lives in Amiko Estate, which is in northern Lake Suigetsu. So, from Tsuruga, you'll want to follow the coastal path that leads south-southeast. You should then spot Amiko Estate near the bridge that spans the lake.
The "pirate" is actually a samurai, someone who has done a grievous crime against Oni-Yuri and her father. She's already poisoned this target, so his health is low. Just try to avoid his attacks and deal with him as you see fit.
- Naoe reply: "I understand."
- Naoe reply: "I will show you."
- Reward: Lash of Deception (rare kusarigama) and Critical Chance on Afflicted Enemies (rare engraving).
With the above completed, you should successfully recruit Oni-Yuri in Assassin's Creed Shadows. She has the following quirks:
- Ability: Sleep Dart - Oni-Yuri puts someone to sleep.
- Passive skill 1: Increased Dosage - Releases a toxic cloud that envenoms people.
- Passive skill 2: Poison the Rations - Reinforcements are delayed in the event of an alert.
Note that there's no way for either protagonist to flirt with Oni-Yuri, but there are several other romance options in the game. Moreover, there are still a few recruitable allies/companions to meet during your travels.
