Dawntreader is a side quest in Avowed that seemingly starts out as a fetch quest. However, as it evolves, you travel to some stunning locations and meet an eccentric character who is planning to change the world of Eora. There are a few branching paths you can take in Dawntreader, some of which aren't readily apparent if you just follow the quest directions.
Below, we have a full quest guide for Dawntreader that shows you how to complete it and the outcomes for all the choices you can make throughout the quest.
Starting Dawntreader
You can begin Dawntreader by speaking to a man named Ofryc in the town square outside of the Aedyr embassy in Paradis. Ofryc is part of an expedition team that recently delved into ancient ruins, but things went south. He's the only member of his team to make it out but he left behind his brother as well as his other team members. Ofryc wants you to explore the ruins and see if you can get his brother and the other members of the team to safety.
Getting into the ruins
The ruins where Ofryc's team was left aren't too far outside of Paradis. You can make your way there by following a quest marker and eventually, you'll come across two women arguing. After some dialogue with them, you're able to slip past without further conflict. Head down into the ruins and keep going until you see a shock generator on the ground. You need to shock open this generator by using a lightning spell from a Grimoire Book of Elements. Aim the spell at the generator and it will open the door it's connected to, allowing you to progress.
Pass the generator and continue down the path. You'll see incredible vistas on your left as you make your way further down into the ruins. You'll soon run into Ofryc's brother, who is on the verge of death, but you can bring him back to life. He thanks you and says he's strong enough to return to Paradis, but implores that you go on further to find the rest of the team.
Speak to the Oracle of Eothas
After walking down the path of the expedition team, you'll arrive at a large statue and a man standing in front of it. This man is the Oracle of Eothas, otherwise known as Sargamis. If you speak to Sargamis, you'll learn that he constructed this large statue to eventually bring it to life and turn it into a god. However, Sargamis is missing the final piece of the statue, called the Splinter of Eothas. He asks you if you'll retrieve the relic, which he already attempted to get the expedition team to do.
You have the option of retrieving the relic or simply looking for the expedition team. Here's what the Dawntreader quest can branch out into multiple paths.
Searching for the expedition team
The rest of the expedition, minus Ofryc's brother, are further in the ruins. Their location is marked as "A" on your map and you can easily go find them to complete the Dawntreader quest. If you go straight to the team's location, you'll discover that they all perished in the ruins. You can pick up Gjeda's Journal on one of the bodies and return it to Ofryc in Paradis. This fully completes the quest, but you'll miss out on some interesting content with the Splinter of Eothas and Sargamis.
Searching for the Splinter of Eothas (listen to Sargamis)
If you want to go further with the Dawntreader quest, you can search for the Splinter of Eothas, which is deeper in the ruins. This option in the quest will see you work with Sargamis. The Splinter of Eothas isn't difficult to find, as you can follow the "B" quest marker on your map and find the relic sitting on a table inside of a room. You have to defeat some strong skeleton enemies after picking up the relic, but you can bring it back to Sargamis, and he will place it inside the Statue of Eothas.
This causes you to have another reaction with the voice inside your head. Apparently, your voice wants to control the Statue of Eothas when they are freed from the prison of your mind, and you can choose to either agree with that decision or tell them no. Either way, after placing the relic in the statue, you can return to Ofryc and complete the Dawntreader quest.
Activate the Statue of Eothas (disobey Sargamis)
An alternative way of completing the Dawntreader quest is to not listen to Sargamis and instead activate the Statue of Eothas yourself. You can do this by shocking the generators around the statue's body and head, which infuriates Sargamis and starts a fight with him. Defeat the golden-headed enemy and then go find the Splinter of Eothas in the ruins. Bring it back to the statue, insert it at the top, and the same cutscene with the voice in your head will play out. However, in this case, Sargamis isn't around to interfere.
Return to Ofryc
Regardless of how you choose to deal with Sargamis and the Statue of Eothas, you ultimately have to return to Ofryc and his brother in Paradis. You tell them how the expedition team perished, which surprisingly makes Ofryc angry at you, but his brother calms him down. After some more dialogue, the Dawntreader quest is complete in Avowed.
