Baldur's Gate 3 is a marvel in the gaming industry, offering gamers a robust and immersive experience unlike any other. However, even though Baldur's Gate 3 is a game for the ages, that doesn't mean it can't be improved with mods. On its own, BG3 doesn't need a single mod installed, as you can play through the 100+ hour epic just as the developers intended and have an unforgettable time. Of course, if you've already played through one of the best RPGs ever made once--or you're simply looking to enhance the experience on your first playthrough--mods can make a world of difference.
Fortunately, developer Larian is making it easier than ever to mod the hit RPG. Not only have the developers opened up full mod support since launch, but BG3 also has its own mod manager you can use to organize all the mods you download. The mod manager works on PC as well as consoles, but the console selections of mods are far more limited than PC. Speaking of consoles and PC, the recent Patch 8 update allows every BG3 to engage in cross-play, giving you the chance to play with friends on other platforms. Patch 8 also adds new subclasses, a photo mode, and various other fixes. This is the last major update for BG3, so now's the time to hop back in with some shiny new mods.
While the modding scene in BG3 isn't as expansive as the Fallout mods or Elder Scrolls mods communities, there are plenty of mods to improve the RPG in a number of ways. From quality-of-life fixes and lifted restrictions to full-on gameplay changes, mods have the ability to completely transform the way you play BG3. In this Baldur's Gate 3 mods guide, we'll be listing our picks for the 30 best mods you can download for BG3 in 2025. These mods are in no particular order and cover a wide variety of categories, so there's something for everyone to pick from.
5e Spells
Created By: Celes
If you're a true fan of Dungeons & Dragons, you likely realized early on that BG3 is missing quite a few spells from the tabletop game. While BG3 does have a solid list of spells for your character to learn, more must be better, right? The 5e Spells mod adds in various spells from levels 1-9 that didn't make it into the final cut of BG3. This includes Cantrips and there are new spells for all classes to learn. The mod also allows you to pick and choose what mods you can learn, allowing you to tailor your experience to your liking. As a note, this mod requires Norbyte's Script Extender for some of the mods to be implemented properly.
WASD Character Movement
Created By: Ch4nKyy
While the traditional movement method for an ARPG on keyboard and mouse relies on mouse clicks, that's not how many gamers prefer to move. If you're a fan of using the WASD keys to move up, down, and side-to-side, then the WASD Character Movement mod is just what the doctor ordered. This mod does exactly what it says, allowing you to press WASD for full movement capabilities. This frees up your mouse to interact with objects, inventories, or other characters. The mod also features a different third-person camera that you can toggle to, making BG3 feel more like a traditional RPG.
Carry Weight Increased
Created By: Mharius
Managing an inventory in BG3 is all a part of the RPG experience, as you're faced with the constant battle of what to keep and what to destroy or sell. While having extra party members to dump loot onto is a nice creature comfort in Faerun, it doesn't always solve your problems. Luckily, you can simply download the Carry Weight Increased mod to fix any nagging inventory issues. This mod increases your character's carrying weight to over 9,000, allowing you to precisely pick how much extra weight you can carry.
Highlight Everything
Created By: Shalzuth
BG3 already has a fantastic highlighting system, making it much easier to visibly see items you might have missed in a given area. However, the system doesn't detect every single item that can be looted in your surroundings. If you want to see all of those items, download the Highlight Everything mod. When you press the highlight button in BG3, your screen will be chock-full of items that can be looted and where they're generally located.
Party Limit Begone
Created By: Sildur
One of the cornerstones of BG3 is the party system, which allows you to take control over three additional characters that aren't yourself. The default total number of characters you can have is four, which is certainly enough to get through any combat or dialogue situation. However, if you don't want to make compromises with the composition of your party, then download the Party Limit Begone mod. This allows you to take 16 party members at a given time (eight members for a multiplayer playthrough). However, this mod only works with new saves, so you won't be able to use an existing save. There are also bound to be bugs with such a high party limit, so be warned.
Smart Autosaving
Created By: Volitio
A huge part of BG3 is saving. Whether you want to save at a crucial dice roll to ensure you eventually get the outcome you want or to see different dialogue options, saving at certain intervals is an essential part of the game. However, it's difficult to always remember to save, especially when you're fully immersed in BG3. Fortunately, the Smart Autosaving mod takes some of the hassle out of your hands. The mod automatically saves at crucial parts of the game and at specific time intervals (10 minutes by default). You can configure how often and when the mod saves the game through the mod manager, but regardless, it can be a true fail-safe in BG3.
Camp Event Notifications
Created By: Kvalyr
Your party's campsite is one of the most important locations at any point in BG3. It's where you interact with party members, progress quests, and advance romance options if applicable. However, BG3 doesn't do a terrific job of alerting you when there's a party member who wishes to speak to you. The Camp Event Notifications mod takes care of all those concerns. Not only does it put an icon over a character's head that tells you they have business with you, but it also tells you when you should take a long rest due to a night event that's set to occur. Essentially, this mod ensures you never miss a camp event again.
Respec Illithid Powers
Created By: Criterium
Illithid Powers are some of the strongest abilities you can use in BG3. However, a nagging issue since the launch of the game has revolved around the fact you can't respec your Illithid Powers once you've put points into its skill tree. As you might have guessed by now, the Respec Illithid Powers mod fixes that issue. With the mod, you can fully refund all points you've put into the Illithid skill tree, giving you free rein to choose whatever abilities you'd like without any consequence.
No Romance Limit
Created By: Wilhelm
One of the most celebrated and impactful features in BG3 is the romance system. For the most part, if you want to romance another party member, you can do so with enough time and effort. However, once you become locked into a single relationship, you can't romance any additional characters. Of course, that's without using the No Romance Limit mod, which lifts those pesky monogamous restrictions and allows you to romance as many characters as you want. While you still have to put in the legwork to romance characters, you now have complete freedom to be as polyamorous as you desire.
Trade with Withers
Created By: yakuzadeso
An annoying part of BG3 is having to keep making your way back and forth between merchants to sell off your valuable or unwanted goods. While some fast travel points are right near merchants, wouldn't it be better to have an available merchant right at camp? The Trade With Withers mod allows you to buy and sell items with the NPC at whatever campsite you're currently at in BG3. Withers' inventory resets after a long rest as well, so you essentially can continually buy and sell new items with them whenever you want. This makes inventory management much more seamless and also gives you the chance to purchase some necessities without having to travel to a distant vendor.
Customizer's Compendium
Created By: AlanaSP
The character creator in BG3 is quite advanced, but there are always ways to make it even better. The Customizer's Compendium mod allows you to access a whole new array of character customization options. From new faces to completely different facial features, you can truly make your character stand out from the rest in BG3. As a note, this mod isn't being updated any longer, but it's still one of the best character creator mods you can find.
Lethal AI
Created By: Khione
The various difficulty modes in BG3 allow you to customize how hard combat and dialogue situations are. However, for hardcore players looking for that extra challenge, you can download the Lethal AI mod, which boosts the difficulty and intelligence of regular enemies. Some examples of what the smarter enemies can do are: avoid attacks more often, target characters over their summons, use the environment more, finish off characters when their HP is low, and plenty more. Certain enemies have also been changed in different ways, so each combat encounter should feel different from the last.
Transmog Enhanced
Created By: Eralyne and Wayden
Have you ever wanted to keep wearing a piece of armor because of how it looks, but decided against it due to another item having better stats? Well, with the Transmog Enhanced mod in BG3, you no longer have to make those choices. The mod allows you to change the appearance of any weapon or armor piece in the game. This gives you the chance to use the armor with better stats while also keeping the same look you like. Transmog Enhanced also works with modded items in BG3, but some mods might not be supported.
Best Boy (Scratch)
Created By: oogabooga66
Scratch is a traveling companion you can bring with you along your travels in BG3, but its health and abilities don't allow it to last very long when you get into a combat encounter. The Best Boy mod gives Scratch a fighting chance to stay in your party for the duration of the game. The mod gives Scratch more HP and plenty of additional abilities that make it a worthwhile party member. You can also give Scratch invincibility with the mod if you never want to worry about it dying again.
Approval Cheat
Created By: unamazement
The approval system in BG3 adds another layer of complexity to the game, but it can be frustrating to deal with, especially if you're trying to romance another character. The Approval Cheat mod allows you to skip the long and drawn-out process of trying to win another character's approval. The mod gives you two keys for your inventory, one being "Increase Approval" and the other "Decrease Approval." You can use the keys like regular spell scrolls and increase/decrease your approval with a certain character by intervals of 15.
Reliable Rolls
Created By: MaskedRPGFan
Rolling the dice and seeing the outcome is a major part of BG3. However, if you don't want to keep loading saves to get the roll you want, just download the Reliable Rolls mod. This mod makes it so no Critical Failure rolls occur in both dialogue and combat. You can also set what types of rolls you're more likely to get. Essentially, the mod allows you to customize your rolls and offers predictable outcomes. While this mod might not be for the hardcore D&D fans out there, it's perfect for players simply looking to get through the game at a decent pace.
ImprovedUI
Created By: AlanaSP ShinyHobo Djmr and Zee
The ImprovedUI mod is the most downloaded BG3 mod on Nexus to date. It adds a number of useful UI improvements to the game, including the character creator screens. The mod is also packed with other features, including some that help smooth out the modding experience in BG3. The character creator might be where you notice the ImprovedUI mod the most, but it works behind the scenes to increase your enjoyment in several different ways.
Stronger Bosses and Enemies
Created By: LelouchLan
If you like the previous Lethal AI mod we mentioned, perhaps you want to take the difficulty in BG3 to another level. The Stronger Bosses and Enemies mod ups the ante on difficulty, making all bosses much smarter and harder to kill. This applies to every major boss in the game but regular enemies will also have their difficulty cranked up. This mod is primarily designed for experienced players who wish to have a higher level of fulfillment after defeating a tough boss.
No Pickpocket Investigation
Created By: sapandstars
Pickpocketing is an essential part of BG3, as it can be the primary way to receive a key item for a quest. However, even if you're using a master thief in BG3, NPCs will always start looking for you even after you successfully pickpocket them. To stop that from happening, you can download the No Pickpocket Investigation mod. This makes it so NPCs won't search for you after a successful pickpocket occurs. You can go on your merry way with whatever you stole safely in your pocket.
Tavs Hair Salon
Created By: Toarie
Tav's Hair Salon is one of the most downloaded mods on Nexus for BG3. It completely revamps the hairstyles available in the character creator, allowing you to design totally unique characters. While the mod focuses on the human, tiefling, drow, and elf races for the most part, there are hairstyles for any character you want to make. The mod should work cohesively with the rest of the character creator, but some new hairstyles might not work with highlights or other features.
Fantastical Multiverse
Created By: Dungeons and Souls
Hardcore D&D fans should love the Fantastical Multiverse mod. The mod adds dozens of new races and species from across D&D sourcebooks to BG3. The mod creator states that 31 out of 100 species are currently a part of the mod, including Yuan-ti, Downcast, Dhampir, Fire Genasi, Kobolds, Shadar-kai, Goliath, and Orc, among many more. If you've grown bored of the vanilla species in BG3, then this mod should instantly add some spice to a new playthrough.
Many More Monsters
- Created By: Rob Lapham
A common complaint among some Baldur's Gate 3 fans is that there's too much downtime in between combat encounters throughout the game's three Acts. Well, the Many More Monsters mod fixes that small issue, adding over 100 possible encounters to the game. The encounters are with different enemies that make sense for the Act and the location you're currently in. You can encounter these enemies at random or during scripted events that match up with your point in the story.
Trials of Tav - Reloaded
- Created By: Hippo0o
The Trials of Tav - Reloaded mod is a reimagining of Baldur's Gate 3, turning the RPG into a roguelike that features strictly combat. In the roguelike version of BG3, you and your chosen party face off against waves of enemies that get progressively more difficult as you continue to win. Every time you win an encounter, you'll receive random loot drops and currency to improve your party. Trials of Tav features over 200 enemies, 80 maps from the base game, and unique power-ups to make your character stronger. The mod can also be played in multiplayer so your friends can get in on the action as well.
Unlock Level Curve
- Created By: Charis
While Baldur's Gate 3 certainly features an authentic D&D experience, there is some higher-level content missing by design. Most notably, there are just under 10 levels that can't be reached during a single playthrough. Those levels unlock new spells, class features, and more content. Well, to hit those levels and use that content, you can download the Unlock Level Curve mod. This adds levels 13-20 for all classes and gives you additional resources, spell slots, and other features. One note with this mod is that you might want to download some sort of mod that boosts your XP so you can actually reach the higher levels.
XP Modifier
- Created By: Elmvick
Whether you need more XP for another mod, like Unlock Level Curve, or you simply want to blow through your character's levels in BG3, the XP Modifier mod comes in handy. This mod boosts your experience rates across the board, allowing you to rapidly reach higher levels and unlock all of the advanced class features for your entire party. The mod is only compatible with new saves, though, so you can't download the mod for your Act 3 playthrough to get past a specific boss.
Native Camera Tweaks
- Created By: Ersh
The Native Camera Tweaks mod is one of the most-downloaded Baldur's Gate 3 mods on Nexus, and for good reason. The simple, yet effective mod solves many problems with how the camera works. It fully unlocks camera pitch during both combat and non-combat sequences, allowing you to get completely new views of the world, and overrides many existing camera restrictions, such as FOV, zoom limits, etc. The mod is completely customizable, giving you free rein to adjust your camera however you want, whenever you want.
Modular Equipment
- Created By: wesslen
It can never hurt to have access to new armor mods, right? While Baldur's Gate 3 presents you with dozens of armor options, sometimes you want free, good-looking armor that goes well with whatever else you want to wear. The Modular Equipment mod gives you sets of unique armor for all gear slots on a character. These sets can be used together, or you can mix and match different pieces of armor in every slot. The best part about the mod is that whatever you choose, everything is going to match in some fashion. As a note, the Modular Equipment mod only works for "tall, slim femme characters," and you can grab the armor sets from a chest in the tutorial area.
Wifi Potions
- Created By: FallenStar
While we already have some inventory management mods on this list, the Wifi Potions mod makes your life much easier during combat. The mod gives every character in your party access to all available potions across the entire party. This means that if Shadowheart has two healing potions and Astarion has three healing potions, your whole party has immediate access to the five healing potions in total. The way the mod does this is gives your party four unique potions, and those represent the four types of healing potions in BG3 (basic, superior, greater, supreme). Just use the potion you want, and it's taken from your entire party's inventory. This saves you time going through each character's inventory to find the potion you want to use.
Tutorial Chest Summoning
- Created By: wesslen
If you're a veteran Baldur's Gate 3 modder, you know that the Tutorial Chest is used to store a plethora of early game mod items. This can include new gear, weapons, items, and everything in between. However, if you forget about the Tutorial Chest or you need to go back for any reason, hiking all the way to the starting area of the game can be a real hassle. While you can fast travel, that still takes time and effort that's not needed, thanks to the Tutorial Chest Summoning mod. This allows you to immediately transport that chest to you at any time. This ensures you always have access to the chest for your modding needs.
Appearance Edit Enhanced
- Created By: Eralyne
One of the most celebrated features in Baldur's Gate 3 is the character creator, which is extremely in-depth and lets you design the perfect character. However, sometimes you want to change one or two aspects of your character's appearance after seeing the same look for a long period of time. With the Appearance Edit Enhanced mod, you can change anything about your character's appearance at any time. You're also able to alter a character's race if you really want to change things up.
