Box Sets
Box sets are specialized collections of different anime that typically include the full season or the entire series of a show, as well as exclusive physical items like art books, CD soundtracks, collector's pins, and more. As such, box sets typically run anywhere between $100 and $200 on average.
Is It Wrong To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon? Premium Box set is one of the better deals this Cyber Monday. Normally priced around $140, you can buy the box set for $39 at Sentai Filmworks. The set includes the popular series about a young adventurer who delves into a dangerous dungeon in order to become stronger and impress the woman who saved his life, and the comedic hijinks that occur between him and almost every other female he meets.

Action Series
There's never a dull moment in an action anime, as anything from magic to the living undead transform the lives of ordinary people into a never-ending series of explosive battles. Action anime are typically also fairly funny, using humor to lighten the mood between fights.
One such series is My Hero Academia, which took the world by storm when its anime debuted in 2016. The story follows the adventures of Izuku Midoriya, a boy born without superpowers in a world where 80 percent of people are. Midoriya dreams of one day becoming someone who helps others, and when his courageous actions catch the eye of the world's number one hero, he finally gets his chance. If you're looking to catch up on a part of the series, Rightstuf has deals on Season 1, as well as both parts of Season 2. Funimation has a deal on all three parts bundled together if you're looking to buy it all.
For something a little more serious and dark, take advantage of Sentai Filmworks' Cyber Monday deal for Princess Principal. The anime follows five girls who live in a steampunk Great Britain and work as spies trying to topple the royal family. During the day, they attend a prestigious school for young ladies, and by night they hunt down and torture, kill, and spy on the corrupt nobility. The Blu-ray comes with both the original Japanese and English dub, the latter of which is highly regarded for having characters speak their native tongue with fairly realistic accents.

Comedy Series
For Cyber Monday, Engaged to the Unidentified Complete Collection, the Blu-ray for one of the funniest romantic comedies out there, is on sale. The series focuses on Kobeni, a girl who finds out on her 16th birthday that her grandfather has married her off to a young boy who lives in a village in the mountains. As she begins to live with her fiance and his energetic younger sister, Kobeni begins to realize that the family she's marrying into aren't exactly human.
If you prefer your comedy to be fast-paced, then take advantage of the Black Friday deal for Pop Team Epic. An entire show that's a collection of individual tongue-in-cheek skits, you won't get a well-written overarching story with Pop Team Epic. That said, the show is very funny and it subverts expectations at almost every turn.

Horror Series
Another is usually sold for around $70. This Cyber Monday, you can buy the whole series of anime's version of the Final Destination movies for just $20. Corpse Party: Tortured Souls ups the horror to truly creepy levels of gore, focusing on a group of middle school students trapped in bloody nightmare of death, torture, and betrayal. Corpse Party is pretty gruesome, so only buy the Blu-ray if you're prepared for some truly disturbing imagery.

Fantasy Series
For Cyber Monday, several fantasy anime are going on sale as well. As opposed to science-fiction, fantasy anime put a lot more focus on building the setting, sometimes spending whole episodes at the start of the series setting up the characters and the world they live in before putting the plot into motion.
The Dragon Dentist doesn't have that luxury, as the entire series isn't very long. However, despite its length, the anime is pretty good. Part of that might come from the fact that it's created by the same studio behind the four Rebuild of Evangelion movies. As the name implies, The Dragon Dentist follows a young girl named Nonoko Kishii who works as the dentist for the dragon her village lives on. Her discovery of a young boy trapped in one of the dragon's teeth puts a series of events into motion that changes her fate forever. You can find the anime at a discount this Cyber Monday at Rightstuf.

Romance Series
The underrated Golden Time is a bittersweet story that seems to follow the same romantic comedy formula as anime like Nisekoi, Toradora, and Clannad After Story, before it sucker punches you with a tragic twist nearly three-quarters of the way through the series. Golden Time is one of those anime where you expect a happy ending for every character, and then the series eventually reaches a point where you know that's not going to be the case. Doesn't mean you shouldn't watch it though, as it's one of the best written romance anime you can find.

Slice Of Life Series
The genre of slice of life isn't seen in many mediums outside of anime--think along the same lines as Seinfeld for the closest western comparison. As the name implies, they usually showcase a sliver in the life of a particular person or group of people.
In most cases, this is done to create a relaxing show that's easy to binge through and pretty much almost anyone can enjoy, like Dagashi Kashi, The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors & Hostel Behavior, and Rail Wars!--all of which have excellent Black Friday sales this year. However, slice of life anime can also be used to teach the viewer a lesson. The Pet Girl of Sakurasou, for example, is an emotional rollercoaster about a couple of ordinary students living in a dorm that's designed for those who are born geniuses, and the anime is one long message about how life is just unfair but that doesn't mean it's not worth living to the fullest.

Tragedy Series
Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 is really good, and absolutely worth experiencing if you haven't already. Just forewarning, this anime is devastatingly sad. It's about three people--two siblings and the woman they run into--working together to find their way home after an earthquake wrecks Tokyo. Normally priced at $70, Sentai Filmworks is selling the Blu-ray for $20.

Drama Series
Sharing several themes with tragic anime, the most notable difference with dramatic anime is typically the happier ending. That doesn't mean these shows are any less emotional to get through, and quite a few are just as sad as a tragedy for touching on triggering content and events, such as bullying, self-harm, suicide, and gender discrimination.
Orange is a perfect example. The series follows high school girl Naho, who receives a letter one day that claims to be from her future self. The letter lists all of Naho's future regrets, as well as how to avoid them. Most notable is the regret that she didn't do more to connect with Kakeru, a new transfer student who will supposedly commit suicide in the near future. The anime follows Naho's efforts to save Kakeru's life, as well as improve her own shortcomings outlined in the letter.

Isekai Anime
A sub-genre of fantasy, isekai is quickly growing to become its own genre. The literal translation of Isekai is "different world" and that's pretty much the basis of the sub-genre. Every isekai anime is about someone (or a group of people) from our world traveling to and becoming trapped in another. Travel to the other world can be through any number of reasons, such as death and reincarnation--like In Another World With My Smartphone--or getting trapped in a video game--like Log Horizon.
One of the most popular isekai anime is the 1999 Digimon Adventure, a series about a group of kids getting sucked into a wormhole while at summer camp and ending up trapped in another world filled with digital monsters. 2015's Digimon Adventure Tri continues that story, taking place six years after the original series. The first five Digimon Adventure Tri arcs are discounted this Cyber Monday on Rightstuf. The sixth and final arc, Future, is already available on Blu-ray in Japan, but won't be coming to Europe and America until December.

Manga And Light Novels
Although some anime are created as an original series, most are adapted from manga, light novels, or video games. Manga, Japan's versions of comics, and light novels, which are just bite-sized versions of full-fledged novels, are the two usual inspirations.
Below are some of the better Black Friday deals for manga and light novels, many of which have already been turned into anime. Both Land of the Lustrous and That Time I Go Reincarnated As A Slime are now anime, for example. 2017's Lustrous is regarded as one of the best anime ever that uses CGI and 2018's Slime is one of the better anime of the year. If you're a fan of Nichijou, a popular manga and anime comedy, then try City. Written by the same author, City takes Nichijou's absurd school-related hijinks and adapts them to apply to the lives of young adults and college students.

Mystery Bundles
If you're feeling daring, you can nab a few mystery bundles this Cyber Monday as well. There's no way to know what items are in the bundle until you open the box so buy at your own risk. Crunchyroll has two bundles discounted for the holiday. The first holds 10 anime DVDs for $22 while the second has 26 manga for $40. Considering most anime DVDs are sold for about $40-60 a season and manga for $12-25 a volume, there's a good chance that this is a fair deal. But again, there's no way to tell you'll enjoy all or even most of the bundle's contents until you open the box.
