Do you want to solve the Breaker Box Puzzle in Blue Prince? Found in a small and cramped Utility Closet, this contraption might be one of the most useful in the entire game. It already has functions that make your runs more manageable, and there's even a secret that you could discover.
How to solve the Breaker Box Puzzle in Blue Prince - Utility Closet puzzle guide
The Breaker Box can be found in the Utility Closet, which is one of the more common drafting options in the game. The biggest problem you'll face, however, is that it's a dead end. That means you won't be able to draft adjoining rooms since there are no other pathways available. Still, if you can plop it down in a corner, you should be able to make use of its functions.
In any case, we're going to talk about what you can do using the Breaker Box, by default, before delving into the puzzle itself.
Breaker Box functions
The Blue Prince Breaker Box has several dials that you can toggle. Here's what each one does:
- Keycard Entry System - If disabled, it lets you open sealed metal doors. You won't need a Keycard at all.
- Gymnasium - Each time you enter the Gymnasium, you lose 2 steps. However, if you turn off the light using the Breaker Box, you'll nullify the effect.
- Dark Room - Turns on the lights in the Dark Room. Note that the Dark Room's lights will go out when you first enter it regardless of the setting on the Breaker Box. As such, you still need to return to the Breaker Box (if you drafted it earlier) to turn on the lights again. Once you're able to see in the Dark Room, you can see your drafting options. You might also find a clue related to the Campsite/Orchard Gate.
- Garage - This opens the Garage Doors. Similar to the Dark Room, the Garage Doors will be closed by default when you first enter, so you still need to flick on this switch on the Breaker Box. Doing so grants access to the West Gate.
- Cabinet - This is part of a late-game secret which we don't want to spoil here.
Note that the Utility Closet doesn't need to be connected to the aforementioned rooms directly. You could draft it at the opposite side of the manor, though you need to walk far just to reactivate certain settings.
In any case, there's still the matter of the VAC Indicators--i.e. the six grey circles. Looks like it's time for us to discuss the puzzle itself.
Breaker Box Puzzle: Mail Room clue
There are a couple of clues pertaining to the Blue Prince Breaker Box Puzzle. Feel free to skip ahead to the solution near the end of this guide, or read on if you want to solve this challenge by yourself.
The first clue can be found in the Mail Room. There's a letter that tells you that:
- You need to turn all the lights green first.
- Blue and red need to be next to each other to turn a light purple.
- You must have five purple lights to activate the sixth.
There's just one problem here: The document only tells you about the process, not the actual solution. That can be found in yet another clue.
Breaker Box Puzzle: Office clue
You can see this clue once you draft and enter the Office. There, you'll find a computer, but you still need to log in. Naturally, you have to input the correct terminal password.
This lets you read the emails from other staff. One email mentions how the fusebox is being repaired, and that the solution that you're aiming for is: Off - Blue - Green - White - Red - Purple.
Solving the Breaker Box Puzzle - Part 1
Whether or not you're aware of the clues, it's time to solve the Breaker Box or Fusebox Puzzle in Blue Prince. Here are the initial steps:
- All lights are turned off by default.
- Click each of them once to turn them green.
- Click on the first, third, and fifth lights to turn them blue.
- Then, click on the second, fourth, and sixth lights to turn them red.
- If you click on a blue light, the red button next to it will turn purple. Keep doing this--i.e. pair up a blue and red lights then click the blue one--until all the lights are purple.
- When all the lights are purple, click on the fourth one to turn it white.
Solving the Breaker Box Puzzle - Part 2
Now, all of the lights should be purple, except for the fourth one which is white. Here's what you need to do next:
- Don't touch the fourth light as it needs to stay white the whole time.
- Don't touch the sixth light since it needs to remain purple.
- Click on the fifth light so it turns red.
- Click on the third light so it turns green.
- Click on the first and second lights so that they turn grey/off and blue, respectively.
You should now end up with this sequence: Grey/off - Blue - Green - White - Red - Purple.
Utility Closet Breaker Box reward
Now that you've solved the Breaker Box/Fusebox Puzzle in Blue Prince, the fake wall behind the contraption should move, revealing a hidden lever. Pull it to open up a large cavern at the grounds of the manor. The location is none other than the Gemstone Cavern, which provides a permanent bonus of +2 gems whenever you start your day/run.
There are also a few additional things worth noting here:
- The gems in the cavern can be mined, but we do not suggest doing this at all. This ruins the structural integrity of the cavern and, if it collapses, you'll lose your daily bonus for good.
- The Gemstone Cavern has a gas valve that you can interact with. It activates one of the four blue flames at the grounds.
- There are other permanent upgrades in the manor grounds, such as the ones acquired from the Garage Door/West Gate and Laboratory/Blackbridge Grotto.
