Are you utterly perplexed by the Clock Tower Puzzle in Blue Prince? Don't worry because everyone else is. And, once you find out what you need to do, you'll probably have a good laugh because of all the frustrations you felt earlier.
How to solve the Clock Tower Puzzle in Blue Prince
The Clock Tower is a room that can only appear in the draft pool once you've activated its floorplan. This can be done once you have access to the Drafting Studio.
In the Drafting Studio, there's a board that lets you select from three randomized options. If you see the Clock Tower, go ahead and select it so it has a chance to show up whenever you're drawing rooms in the manor.
The Clock Tower clue that you should ignore... for now
If it's your first time visiting the Clock Tower in Blue Prince, you'll notice a few interesting objects at the top of the room, such as the large clock in the middle, as well as two others off to the sides.
There's also a poem that says: "Southward I see a swan, ashen like sands of the shore. Carried by westerly winds, rogue like the moon of the north. Eastward I see a crow, dark are the days coming forth."
At first glance, and assuming you've been exploring the manor often, your first thought might be that this poem pertains to the Den. You'd end up thinking that the puzzle is there, but it isn't. The swans, crows, and birds might as well be red herrings because this clue is meant to throw you off.
Where are the actual clues for the Clock Tower Puzzle?
The actual clues for the puzzle are in the tower itself, namely the large clocks:
- The central clock near the poem/desk is fixed at 1:30.
- The two other clocks represent the current time in-game.
This means you should be at the top of the Clock Tower exactly when it's 1:30 p.m. in-game. Time moves at a brisk pace--i.e. around five minutes in real-time equates to an hour in game. You also start each day at 8:00 a.m.--i.e. you have around 27 minutes or so before the required time.
In any case, as long as you have the Clock Tower drafted, you can roam around the manor for a bit. However, you still need to make sure that you're already waiting in the tower room before 1:30.
Note: From the interior of the tower, you're looking at the clocks from behind/within the room--i.e. a bit like looking into a mirror. As such, you have to look at the Roman numerals: The hour hand must be between I and II, and the minute hand must be at VI.
Clock Tower Puzzle notes and requirements
Once it's 1:30 and you're inside the room, a cutscene will play. Now, it's time to solve the actual Clock Tower Puzzle in Blue Prince. Go up the hidden passage and take a look at the notes on the grandfather clocks. You'll see the following:
- Blue (true): "Each of these clocks should be set to a different time."
- Blue (true): "Five of these clocks should be set to a time ending on the hour."
- Red (false): "Set this clock to a time containing all different numbers."
- Blue (true): "This clock's neighbors should both be set to a time containing a 7."
- Red (false): "This clock should not be set on the hour."
- Blue (true): "None of these clocks should be set to times that contain the numbers 1, 2, 3, or 4."
- Blue (true): "This clock should be set to a time that contains the same three numbers of another clock, but in reverse."
- Red (false): "The clocks are positioned so that their times will go up in ascending order."
The idea is to look at the hints that can be universally applied. For instance, you can't have 1, 2, 3, or 4, so that eliminates 10:00 to 4:59. It also eliminates the minutes for the applicable hours (5:00 to 9:00)--i.e. You can't use 5:12, 6:03, 6:12, and so on.
Other clues are also helpful:
- Five clocks ending on the hour means that you should have 5:00, 6:00, 7:00, 8:00, and 9:00.
- One of the clock's neighbors having a 7 means that a clock next to it must be 7:00. There's also a false hint (i.e. "not set on the hour"), which means that clock is the one that should be at 7:00.
- The red note at the end is meant to throw you off, as the times should be in ascending order (i.e. earlier to later) from left to right.
Note: You must solve this puzzle while inside this hidden chamber. If you leave and go to a different room, the wall will be closed off. You'll have no choice but to try again on another day/run, and you still need to wait for 1:30 just for the passage to open.
