Are you wondering if it's possible to unlock the Garage Door in Blue Prince? This is a room that does appear commonly enough if you're in the correct spots in the manor. There are also lots of rewards if you can manage to get in... and out.
How to unlock the Garage Door in Blue Prince
You can open the Garage Door by activating its own switch in the Breaker Box, which is found in the Utility Closet. That said, you still need to figure out how to make the Garage appear more reliably as a drafting option.
How to make the Garage Door appear
If you want to gain access to the Blue Prince Garage room, then you must be in a room with a door that leads to the westernmost/far-left column of the manor.
- The Garage can only appear as an option in the first column--i.e. far-left side of the manor.
- If you're already in the first/far-left column, then the door must lead north (up).
- If you're in the second column, then the door must lead west (left).
- In a way, it's a bit like trying to reach the Secret Garden, which is another room that only appears in the far-left column of the mansion.
The Car Keys and rewards
When you enter the Garage, you'll notice a car that's parked inside. There are also three keys that you can grab, which are bound to be helpful as you're roaming around the manor. That said, if you want to see what's inside the car, then you need the Car Keys.
The Car Keys, similar to other unique/special keys in the game, may appear in random locations:
- Can be found inside trunks/chests and dirt piles.
- Can be found lying on desks and dressers, or in dead-end rooms that are guaranteed to have an assortment of items.
- A potential reward for completing the Billiards/Darts Puzzle.
- Potentially part of the Locksmith's vendor pool.
If you do have the Car Keys, use it to open the driver side of the vehicle and read the note. Then, use it to open the trunk. Inside, you'll find an Upgrade Disk, which can be used on a computer terminal to permanently grant a perk to a certain room. You'll also see various resources, including gems, gold, and more keys.
Activating the Breaker Box to unlock the Garage door
Let's get back on track. Anyway, if you want to unlock the Garage Door in Blue Prince, make sure you're able to draft a Utility Closet. It's a dead-end room, so try to plop it down in a corner where it doesn't block off your progress.
The contraption itself has several functions, including the Breaker Box Puzzle that leads to a unique location and permanent upgrade. For now, though, just flick the Garage switch to "On."
Note: If you toggled the Garage switch prior to gaining access to the Garage, the Garage door itself will still be closed. You need to return to the Utility Closet to reactivate the switch.
Alternate method: Powering up the Garage
There's also another way to open the Garage door in Blue Prince, but it's actually tougher than just flicking the switch in the Utility Closet. This one involves funneling power to the Garage itself. This can be done via two rooms:
- Boiler Room - You need to activate the Boiler Room.
- Aquarium - You need to find an Upgrade Disk for the Aquarium. Then, select the Electric Eel upgrade. It also acts like an activated Boiler Room.
Using either of these rooms, you need to trace a path that connects to the Garage. Ideally, the Boiler Room/Electric Eel Aquarium should be adjacent to the Garage entrance. If there are gaps, then you have to place gear-type rooms (i.e. Security, Workshop, and others), or red rooms (i.e. Archive, Weight Room, and the like). You should see that ducts/shafts on the ceiling form an unbroken connection all the way to the Garage.
The West Gate Path: What's outside the Garage Door
Regardless of the method that you use, once the Garage door is open, you can go ahead and explore the yard. Keep following the path that leads south until you come across a gate. Yes, it's the very same gate near the entrance to the manor. Go ahead and unlatch it to activate the West Gate Path.
The West Gate Path is a permanent upgrade that lets you draft Outer Rooms. You can find these selections when you interact with the small shed nearby.
The Outer Rooms
That's everything you need to know about the Blue Prince Garage Door. But, before we conclude things, we do need to mention a few tidbits about the Outer Rooms. Think of these as small areas that grant buffs, bonuses, or items for the entire day. The drafting options, similar to the manor, are randomized, too. We suggest checking out this area whenever you start a run just to see what you can obtain before delving deeper into the manor.
Here are some of the most notable options among the Outer Rooms:
- Tomb - There's actually a Tomb Puzzle that you need to solve. This leads to another entry point into the Underground.
- Hovel and Schoolhouse - Both have gas valves that activate the blue flames at the entrance.
- Toolshed - While items are randomized, there's a good chance that you'd find a Shovel or Sledge Hammer, maybe even both.
- Shrine - Grants blessings that can last for several days when you pay huge sums of gold. However, taking back your donation causes you to be afflicted with a debilitating curse.
Note: Speaking of the Shrine, one of the boons is called Blessing of the Monk--i.e. donate +30 gold--which makes it so that ending the day in a room in the manor causes it to appear as a drafting option in the outer area on your next run. This leads to some nifty secrets that you'll want to discover down the line.
