How to solve the Room 8 Puzzle in Blue Prince
If you're reading this guide, then we'll hazard a guess that you're stuck on this particular puzzle. Don't worry since it also took us a while to figure out what we needed to do. Then again, you might be thinking of where Room 8 is located. Well, here's a quick summary:
- To have a chance to gain access to Room 8, you must first complete the Gallery Puzzle. It's a fairly challenging activity since you need to input the correct words based on abstract paintings that you analyze.
- Completing the Gallery Puzzle nets you an item called Key 8, which "presumably unlocks Room 8." The number itself is already a clue.
- You must be in row/rank 8 of the mansion, and you must encounter a locked door. Then, you need to click on Special Keys and select the Key 8. Once the door opens, you'll find yourself in Room 8.
Room 8 Puzzle clues
The Blue Prince Room 8 Puzzle has a large infinity symbol/number eight statue in the middle. There's also an out of place drawing of a shark's fin to the left. Basically, this place looks similar to one of the paintings in the Gallery.
Likewise, surrounding the statue are eight bins with eight sins. From left to right, these are: Hubris, Envy, Lust, Wrath, Gluttony, Sloth, Avarice, and Mundanity.
Off to the side, you'll see eight animal figurines. You can inspect each one to read passages/clues:
- Pigeon: "The sum of my sin, as it is penned, is the number of the room we are in."
- Lion: "To first begin, place me in a bin with an 'n' within its sin."
- Swan: "I recommend you think again if ever I'm in a bin far from the fin."
- Dog: "You won't find my bin in between sin, for I deserve to be in a bin down on the end."
- Elephant: "To my chagrin my neighbor's sin is written thin to fit it all in."
- Rabbit: "I share a trend with my neighbor's sin--a letter and its twin appear on each bin."
- Bear: "If we spend a min or ten lounging in the den, you'll know which bin I'm often in."
- Monkey: "The bin I tend to wind up in is near the bend of the tail of the skin."
At this point, if it's your first time in Room 8, we suggest solving the puzzle on your own. You can start with the bins for the Monkey and the Dog figurines since their clues are the most obvious among the bunch. However, if you're stuck, you can keep reading our guide to see the solution.
Solution 1: Bins on the left-hand side
Place the following statues in these specific bins:
- Hubris: Monkey - The bin is the closest one to the "bend" of the tail of the skinned animal.
- Envy: Lion - Several sins have the letter "n." However, through process of elimination, you'll end up with only Envy remaining once other figurines are placed in the remaining bins.
- Lust: Swan - This bin is fairly close to the drawing of the shark above it.
- Wrath: Elephant - The word "lust" is fairly short, and the Lust bin looks like it was just crammed in a corner.
Solution 2: Bins on the right-hand side
For the right-hand side of the Blue Prince Room 8 Puzzle, you'll want to place these figurines in the correct bins:
- Gluttony: Pigeon - Initially, you might think that this is related to the eighth bin since there's a statue of the number 8 in the room. However, if you pronounce the word "eight," it sound like "ate," ergo Gluttony.
- Sloth: Bear - This one really stumped us so we kept moving it around until the Sloth box was the only one that was left.
- Avarice: Rabbit - "The letter and its twin" pertains to words with two of the same letters. Avarice and its "neighbor" Mundanity have two As and Ns, respectively.
- Mundanity: Dog - The dog can only be in a bin at either end, and the leftmost box is for the Monkey.
