How to craft the Staff of Ice
While this is a new map tied to the ongoing narrative of Black Ops 6 Zombies, The Tomb brings back the Staff of Ice Wonder Weapon, which is familiar to those who played the beloved Origins map from 2012's Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
The Staff of Ice is capable of firing ice blasts at enemies, slowing or freezing them in place, as well as dealing an icy area-of-effect attack. It also has the ability to revive downed teammates.
If you're planning on doing The Tomb's main story quest, you will need the Ice Staff to complete it. It doesn't matter how you obtain this weapon. It can be gained by getting lucky with the Mystery Box, or if you use the Wonderbar Gobble Gum, you will be guaranteed a Wonder Weapon on your next Mystery Box spin. However, the gum doesn't guarantee you the Ice Staff, as the Ray Gun is also in the box.
Assuming luck isn't on your side, we'll use the next steps to guide you through crafting a guaranteed Ice Staff. You'll need to collect three staff pieces and complete the building process in order to wield the Ice Staff.
Start unlocking map and reach round 8
First, you'll want to play through the rounds and maximize your points along the way. Follow the initial prompts that guide you toward Pack-a-Punch.
Reaching round 8 will spawn a Shock Mimic.
Kill the Shock Mimic
The Shock Mimics are much like the enemy type from Black Ops Cold War, but they will temporarily zap you if they get close enough to grab you. You want to kill this Mimic and get the item they drop. This is the Monocle, which is the first part needed for the staff.
Unlock the Door to Nowhere and activate purple crystal
You may or may not have reached this point by round 8. The map's guided steps lead you to a room with a purple crystal to interact with. Once you do this, purple crystals will spawn around the area, and you'll be able to use portals to a map location called the Dark Aether Nexus.
You can travel into the Dark Aether Nexus first if you want to gear up. The Juggernog perk machine and the Pack-a-Punch machine are there.
However, you'll want to head back towards the spawn area to get the next parts needed. There are two doors you unlocked from the spawn area. The right side passage takes you to the Deadshot Daiquiri perk machine in the Neolithic Catacombs, and the left side leads toward the Tombs.
Neolithic Catacombs puzzle
To start this step, you'll likely want either a Pack-a-Punched weapon or one with a high rarity. Having upgraded armor and some perks can also help here. There is a survival step coming up with enemies in close quarters, so you'll want to feel prepared. If you're doing this solo, you might want Decoy throwables to help distract the zombies, and Aether Shroud can be a nice field upgrade to use.
It doesn't matter the order, but we'll start with the Deadshot Daiquiri objective. Head into the Neolithic Catacombs and look up to find a purple crystal hanging above you.
Move the crystal
Every time you shoot one of these crystals, it respawns in a nearby location. The goal here is to shoot the crystal until it moves to the location above the room's crafting table. This will cause it to illuminate some mystical runes on the hunter mural to the left of the table. It might take 4-5 times before the crystal moves where you need it.
Shoot the runes in order
These runes must be shot in a specific order that is related to a numeric order. The order of the symbols in the puzzle will be different every match, but the symbols will always represent the same value.
These runes look like wonky Roman Numerals with squiggles, V-shapes, and X-shapes.
- One squiggly - 1
- Two squiggly - 2
- Three squiggly - 3
- V with a squiggle on the left - 4
- V - 5
- V with a squiggle on the right - 6
- V with two little squiggles on the right - 7
- V with two full marks on the right - 8
- X and a little mark on the left - 9
- X - 10
You need to shoot these symbols 1-10 in numeric order without messing up. Doing it correctly will form the Orion constellation on the wall and will initiate a lockdown in the area. This will spawn enemies and a floating wisp-like object. Kill enemies until the wisp moves.
This will take 3-4 sessions. Once complete, you'll be rewarded with a Max Ammo power-up and the Head Piece part for the Ice Staff.
Tombs puzzle
This process works just like the previous step. Instead of taking the right passage from the spawn area, take the left passage that leads into the Tombs.
This room has a mural of a bull, and here you want to look up for the purple crystal hanging above. Shoot the crystal until it moves just above the bull. This will light the runes and allow you to start shooting them in numerical order just like the last puzzle. There are only eight runes to shoot here, and the values are the same.
Correctly shooting this will light up the constellation and initiate a similar lockdown and survival phase.
Once complete, you will be rewarded with a Max Ammo power-up and the Staff part needed to complete the Wonder Weapon build.
Build the staff
Use any of the portals to head into the Dark Aether Nexus. Head to the circular area near Pack-a-Punch. There's a large stone structure as seen in the image above. Interact with this stone to craft the staff.
Protect the staff
However, you'll need to fend off an enemy attack before you can pick up the staff. You need to protect the staff from taking too much damage while it's building, and you'll want to focus on enemies with a purple glow. They are the ones specifically attacking the staff. If playing solo, just try to train the zombies up so you have enough control to focus on the purple enemies.
If you fail to protect the staff, you'll need to go another round and try again. You'll know when you've been successful because the wave of zombies will disappear, and then you can collect the staff from the stone.
