When you start Dragon Age: The Veilguard, you have to choose from three distinct classes. One of these happens to be the Warrior, a melee powerhouse that has all the right tools for offense and defense. Here's our guide on the best Warrior skills and specialization in Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

The best Warrior skills and specialization in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

In our best class guide, we mentioned that the Warrior is the ideal pick. Sorry, Mage and Rogue fans. Now, in our Dragon Age: The Veilguard best Warrior skills guide, we add more details as to why this is the case. We start off with the basics, and we list down a few notable perks from the skill tree. Then, we move on to the Warrior's abilities and specialization/ultimate.

The Warrior skill tree above has over 50 points that can be allocated. Most of these come from leveling up, but we also earned free skill points from Fen'harel Statues found in various regions. Ideally, you should have a few points allocated as you move to the top-right corner. By the time you reach level 20 to unlock a specialization, you'd be able to choose the Reaper.

In any case, here are some notable perks from skill tree sections:

    • Core: Counterblow, Shield Volley, and Rancor.
    • Survival: Return to Sender, Ready Guard, Refract, and Good Arm.
    • Mourn Watch: Slam, Staggering Toss, Ignition, Eclectic Armorer, and Seething Pitch.
    • Abilities: Enduring Rage and Shieldbreaker.
    • Lord of Fortune: Overhand Smash, Guardian's Reprieve, Medium Armor Mastery, and Flames of Victory.
    • Weapons (optional): Incite Violence and Breathing Room.
    • Reaper specialization: Death's Throw, Living Decay, Desperation, Spirit of Hunger, and Let It Linger.

These perks greatly empower your defensive maneuvers, rage generation, and Shield Toss spamming. With these, you should be able to stay on the move, throwing your shield to break barriers while closing the gap for bone-crunching melee hits with your two-handed weapon.

Primer and stagger skill: Titan Stomp

Primer and stagger skill: Titan Stomp

The first ability that you should unlock early in the game is Titan Stomp, which is just above the Core section. This is one of the best Warrior skills in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, since it sends out a shockwave in a wide area, inflicting overwhelm and stagger to numerous enemies. In just a few hits, you should be able to fill the stagger meter and perform chain takedowns.

    Detonator skill: Groundbreaker

    Detonator skill: Groundbreaker

Right above Titan Stomp, you'll find the Groundbreaker ability. While it's not a huge priority compared to other options, it does inflict fire damage. Moreover, allies like Bellara and Emmrich apply the weakened status with their own quirks, so you can detonate the effect when you cast this.

    AoE and survivability skill: Whirlwind

    AoE and survivability skill: Whirlwind

While you're making your way to the top-right corner of the skill tree, don't forget to allocate a few points into the lower section just to grab Whirlwind. This is one of the best Warrior skills in Dragon Age: The Veilguard for a couple of reasons:

    • Damage - Whirlwind causes you to spin while smashing all hostiles around you with a gigantic mallet that hits multiple times.
    • Invulnerability frames (iframes) - Your character is invulnerable to all damage and the animation cannot be interrupted. This is what you call a "spin to win" ability.
Specialization and ultimate: The Reaper's Spirit Storm

Specialization and ultimate: The Reaper's Spirit Storm

Finally, we have the best specialization in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. It's none other than the Reaper (i.e. top-right section). This is primarily due to the Spirit Storm ultimate ability. When cast, you create a massive tornado that spins and pulls enemies closer to its center, all while dealing multiple instances of necrotic damage. You're likely to see the health bars of elites and bosses melt due to tremendous damage.

That does it for our guide on the best Warrior skills in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. For an overview about the Rogue and Mage, be sure to take a look at our class guide.

The lands of Thedas are under threat from formidable foes, including some menacing elven gods, and it's up to Rook and their allies to save the day. For more tips and tactics, you can visit our Dragon Age: The Veilguard guides hub.
