How to recruit all companions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

All seven companions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard are recruited as part of campaign progression. Don't worry since no one is missable. As such, our guide mostly discusses when they do join your ragtag group of heroes and their unique exploration perks.

Note: Almost all characters belong to an existing faction. Completing a companion's quest can sometimes increase their respective faction's strength (i.e. your reputation).

Harding joins you just a few minutes after starting the campaign. A member of the now-defunct Inquisition, she's also one of Varric's closest allies.

• Exploration perk: Can activate wards and interact with spirit echoes

Similar to Harding, Neve becomes a party member early in the game. This frost mage happens to be an investigator who solves crimes in Dock Town. Note that you may have some trouble with Neve depending on your decision in the On Blighted Wings/On Deadly Wings quest.

After the group reaches the Lighthouse, you're tasked with returning to Arlathan Forest. This is when you'll meet Bellara, an inventor/tinkerer who can repair elven devices.

Lucanis has been imprisoned in an underwater facility bound by magic, and it's up to you to free him. This expert assassin happens to be possessed by a demon named Spite as well. Note that just like Neve, Lucanis plays a role in the On Blighted Wings/On Deadly Wings quest.

• Exploration perk: Can call on griffon to destroy blight abscesses and drop hanging crates
• Joins during quest: A Warden's Best Friend

A member of the vaunted Grey Wardens, Davrin takes care of a griffon named Assan. Together, they make a formidable duo in battle.

• Region: Necropolis Halls
• Class: Mage
• Race: Human
• Exploration perk: Can call on spirit wisps and commune with the dead
• Joins during quest: Where the Dead Must Go

Emmrich has a cheerful disposition. Funnily enough, he's a necromancer who also fears death. Then again, he does have a skeletal assistant named Mannfred.

• Exploration perk: Can light braziers and burn down red crystals

The mighty Taash joins fairly late in the campaign, but they're one of the most reliable teammates in a fight, especially if you need a melee powerhouse.
