Square Enix just revealed a whole lot more about Dragon Quest 1+2 HD-2D Remake. This collection of RPGs follows in the footsteps of last year's Dragon Quest 3 remake, reimagining the NES classics in the HD-2D style Square Enix has cultivated over the past several years. We've now learned that Dragon Quest 1+2 HD-2D Remake will be released across Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 30.
GameSpot also had the opportunity to go hands-on with Dragon Quest 1+2 HD-2D Remake. The visual stylings of these remakes really stood out to editor Steve Watts, who wrote that the remake's "color palette and saturation feels reminiscent of 8-bit classics, which makes the beautiful sprite artwork pop." Considering GameSpot left our preview wanting to play more of these remakes and Dragon Quest 3's remake was a bit of a surprise hit last year, Dragon Quest 1+2 HD-2D Remake has the potential to be one of the biggest RPGs released this fall.
It will dot the i for a year of games that have capitalized on RPG nostalgia, such as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. While there's no demo for fans to get their hands on at this time, Square Enix has released 15 screenshots for Dragon Quest 1+2 HD-2D Remake, providing use with a look at how these remakes are utlizing the new art style.
HD-2D uses pixel art for its characters and many key visual elements, but the backgrounds and lighting are much more modern in style. Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake looked fantastic, and these Dragon Quest 1+2 HD-2D Remake screenshots suggest this upcoming collection will very much be the same when it launches on October 30.
