Yassi Pressman, er, Ulrika is one of the first characters you meet in Dragon's Dogma 2. From the start, it's clear that she cares about the Arisen, though perhaps only as a friend. Still, there might be more to this relationship. Here's our guide on how to romance Ulrika in Dragon's Dogma 2. Likewise, please be reminded that this guide contains minor spoilers.
How to romance Ulrika in Dragon's Dogma 2
The Dragon's Dogma 2 Ulrika romance is part of a very long quest chain that involves the following missions:
- Readvent of Calamity
- Home Is Where the Hearth Is
- Trouble on the Cape
One particular quest, Readvent of Calamity, also has hidden triggers. Worse, it's completely missable, since it might no longer be available later in your playthrough. Don't worry since we've got all the details to help you along the way.
Key locations: Vernworth, Melve, and Harve Village
The entire story arc that lets you romance Ulrika in Dragon's Dogma 2 involves two main locations: Melve and Harve Village. The capital of Vernworth, meanwhile, has certain prerequisite missions that you must undertake.
Prerequisite quests and the point of no return
Above, you can see our quest log when we received the Dragon's Dogma 2 Readvent of Calamity mission. Here's what we know based on experience:
- Seat of the Sovran quests - We already completed some or most of Commander Brant's quests, such as Monster Culling, Disa's Plot, and The Caged Magistrate.
- We had also finished other quests, including The Stolen Throne (masquerade ball), Nameless Village, and An Unsettling Encounter.
- We had one active quest from Brant--Feast of Deception--for the coronation. We did not complete this part.
- The other Vernworth quests can only be completed upon reaching Bakbattahl.
- Scaly Invaders quest - This quest takes you to Harve Village. You need to clear out the Saurians in an underground cavern, and then wait a few days outside of Harve Village before revisiting it. We had only partially completed this (i.e. we defeated the Saurians but we haven't returned to the settlement yet).
- Talking to Commander Brant - Note that you may need to speak with Commander Brant so that he tells you about Melve, but the quest itself won't appear in your log.
How about going to Bakbattahl or even heading to Checkpoint Rest Town? Well, here are our findings:
- We reloaded multiple backup saves where we had already completed Feast of Deception/coronation. We had saves where we were in Checkpoint Rest Town and Bakbattahl. Whenever we revisited Melve, the quest/cutscene simply did not trigger.
- The only time it triggered for us properly was when we loaded a save where Feast of Deception/coronation was not completed yet.
Long story short: Do not finish Feast of Deception/coronation too early. Once you've completed it, the Dragon attack at Melve might not happen anymore. This locks you out of Readvent of Calamity and the Dragon's Dogma 2 Ulrika romance.
Quest: Readvent of Calamity - Dragon attack at Melve
Let's say you do meet the other quest requirements and Feast of Deception has not been completed yet. You should be able to trigger the Dragon's Dogma 2 Readvent of Calamity quest when you return to Melve.
As you approach via Oxcart, a cutscene will play showing a dragon that's attacking the settlement. This Lesser Dragon has red pustules/growths all over its body, and you need to hit these as these are its weak spots. Once its health is low enough (four pips), it will fly away.
Vocation unlock: Mystic Spearhand
While fighting the Lesser Dragon, you might notice a combatant wielding a polearm. This person is Sigurd, and talking to him nets you the Mystic Spearhand vocation. This isn't the only place you'll meet him, so don't worry if you missed out the first time. You can learn about the Mystic Spearhand and other classes in our unlockable vocations guide.
Quest: Readvent of Calamity - Ulrika's escape
These are the next steps if you want to romance Ulrika in Dragon's Dogma 2:
- After fending off the dragon, you're told to check back on Melve from time to time. You can do various quests for now. However, in our case since we had completed several quests already, we simply rested while outside of Melve. The best location to do this is the campsite just north of the village.
- Return to Melve and head to Ulrika's house. You'll see her having a chat with a corrupt official named Martin, one of Queen Regent Disa's goons. Martin accuses Ulrika of treason.
- Speak with Ulrika and she'll tell you it's time to sleep. The scene will shift to daytime and, upon exiting Ulrika's house, you're told by Lennart that she has escaped. He asks you to find her.
Quests: Readvent of Calamity and Scaly Invaders - Finding Ulrika
You can find Ulrika in Dragon's Dogma 2 by going to Harve Village, which is west of Vernworth. Here's what you need to know:
- As mentioned earlier, we only partially completed the Scaly Invaders quest. That means the Stormwind Cave is already clear of hostiles, but we've yet to actually revisit the place.
- Well, it's time to revisit it now. Upon arriving at Harve Village, Ulrika and co. will help you fend off the Saurian ambush. You'll also complete the Scaly Invaders quest.
- Talk to Ulrika. She wants you to tell Lennart that she's okay.
- Note that you can find Sigurd in his hut at the eastern edge of Harve Village. You can obtain the Mystic Spearhand vocation if you forgot to do so the first time.
Maister Teaching: Fighter - Riotous Fury
Return to Melve and talk to Lennart in Ulrika's home. This completes the Dragon's Dogma 2 Readvent of Calamity quest, and you'll be rewarded with the following:
- Ring of Grit - Reduces the stamina expended when blocking with a shield.
- Fighter: Riotous Fury - Speak with Lennart again to receive a scroll that teaches you this ultimate technique for the Fighter vocation.
Important: The next quest (Home Is Where the Hearth Is) requires you to bring four one-handed swords to Lennart. If you have the gold to spare, then we recommend purchasing four cheap Iron Swords from the Melve item shop (they only cost 1,480 gold each). If your character becomes over-encumbered, you can just transfer these weapons to your main pawn.
Quest: Home Is Where the Hearth Is - Finding swords for Lennart
The next segment you need to undertake if you want to romance Ulrika in Dragon's Dogma 2 is called Home Is Where the Hearth Is. Here's what you need to do to trigger this quest:
- As noted earlier, make sure you've also completed the An Unsettling Encounter quest from Brant if you haven't done so yet.
- Whether you're in Melve or Vernworth, make sure you're able to purchase four swords from a shop.
- Wait/sleep for three days or so while outside Melve. Use the campsite to the north if you want.
- When you return to Melve, a guard will prevent you from entering. Bribe the guard and pay 5,000 gold.
- Talk to Lennart in Ulrika's home. He and the other villagers want to fight back.
- You need to give Lennart four swords.
At this stage (i.e. after bribing the guard), the shop vendor won't be able to sell weapons anymore since he's being kept under watch. That's why it's better to have purchased the swords beforehand. There are also other alternatives:
- If you completed the Brothers Brave and Timid side quest earlier, you'll find Ian and Norbert at the main street near the archway. They'll help distract the guards for you, allowing you to collect the swords from chests inside the storeroom.
- Note that you may also enter the storeroom from the rooftop. However, there's a guard that's waiting for you. He and his comrade will turn hostile. It's unlikely that you'll survive this encounter, which is why we don't recommend it.
- Lastly, what if you weren't able to procure swords before this part and you weren't able to complete Brothers Brave and Timid earlier? If this is the case, you have to travel by oxcart to Vernworth to buy from the shop there before returning to Melve.
Quest: Home Is Where the Hearth Is - Fighting off the guards
Regardless of how you acquired the four swords, hand them over to Lennart and he'll rally his supporters. A fight will break out in town. Your pawns won't be able to help as much, so you'll have to survive on your own.
You don't need to kill the guards at all, so just run away if things get too hectic. After a minute or so passes, the guards will retreat. Lennart will thank you for your help. He then asks you to tell Ulrika about how the village has fared.
Quest: Trouble on the Cape
Make your way back to Harve Village. As you approach Ulrika, you'll notice a commotion. It seems that a villager is trapped in Stormwind Cave again. Ulrika decides to rally the people to aid the poor fella.
Head back into Stormwind Cave with your allies, and make your way to the central area with the raised rock formation. Then, follow the lower-right tunnel that leads to a chamber. There, you'll spot the NPC and several Saurians. Once all the enemies have been defeated, lead your people back outside.
The villagers will be thankful for Ulrika's assistance, and she'll be made the chief of Harve Village. This completes Trouble on the Cape, and you'll receive 6,500 gold and a Ferrystone.
Ulrika romance scene
Finally, it's time to seal the deal. Rest at the Harve Village inn for a couple of days. Then, head to the pier/beach just behind the inn. You'll find Ulrika waiting for you. If you speak with her, she tells you to return to her at night.
Sleep or sit on a bench until it's nighttime and approach her once more. This leads to a cutscene by the beach.
And that's it: that's everything you need to know about how to romance Ulrika in Dragon's Dogma 2. Now, that's quite a doozy. This segment also completes Home Is Where the Hearth Is, and you'll obtain 12,000 gold and the Ring of Reassurance. This accessory boosts the defense of a pawn after you help them get back on their feet.
