Fighter, Archer, Thief, and Mage
All four of these vocations are unlocked by default, allowing you to make use of them at the start of the campaign. Here's what each one brings to the table:
- Fighter - A melee combatant that uses a sword-and-shield setup. This is your typical tanking class.
- Archer - A ranged combatant that shoots and snipes foes with arrows.
- Thief - A melee combatant that utilizes avoidance, as opposed to mitigation, while dealing a lot of damage.
- Mage - A support-oriented caster that has offensive, curative, and utility spells.
No need to worry since you can change to a different class whenever you visit a Vocation Guild. Still, if you want to plan ahead, you can learn more in our best starting vocation guide.
Warrior and Sorcerer unlock location
To unlock the Warrior and Sorcerer in Dragon's Dogma 2, you need to talk to the Vocation Guild NPC in the capital city of Vernworth. You're then asked to acquire a greatsword and an archistaff as part of the Vocation Frustration quest. Both of these weapons can be found in Trevo Mine, which is northwest of Vernworth.
Warrior and Sorcerer unlock requirement: Obtain a greatsword and an archistaff as part of the Vocation Frustration quest
From the southern entrance of Trevo Mine, continue making your way through the complex tunnel system until you reach a large chamber. The chest here has a greatsword.
As for the archistaff, you need to make your way to the bottom of a pit (fairly close to the chamber with the greatsword). One of the side passageways here has a chest that contains the archistaff. Upon obtaining both items, return to the Vocation Guild NPC to unlock the Warrior and Sorcerer classes.
Trickster unlock location
The Trickster vocation in Dragon's Dogma 2 is unlocked as part of a quest called Flickering Shadows. Prior to this, you're tasked with completing the initial objectives in Bakbattahl, whereupon you'll receive the Flickering Shadows mission.
Trickster unlock requirement: Talk to Luz during the Flickering Shadows quest
Flickering Shadows involves finding a man named Ambrosius, who wants you to collect Wyrmslife Crystals. He also wants you to speak with two individuals: the Dragonforged and the Oracle.
The Oracle, Luz, can be found due north, fairly close to the border between Checkpoint Rest Town and Battahl. Simply speak with her to unlock the Trickster class.
Mystic Spearhand unlock locations #1 and #2
There are two potential locations where you can unlock the Mystic Spearhand class early in the game. The first is in Melve, which is a village. However, you need to talk to a certain individual named Sigurd just as you're tackling the Readvent of Calamity quest (which is part of the Ulrika romance arc).
In case you missed Sigurd the first time, you should find him in a small hut in the eastern edge of Harve Village. You may need to partially complete the Scaly Invaders quest, too.
Mystic Spearhand unlock location #3
If you still haven't met Sigurd and you're already further along in the campaign, then you can head to Dragonsbreath Tower. This location is in the jungle to the southwest of Bakbattahl.
Mystic Spearhand unlock requirement: Talk to Sigurd
Regardless of where you meet Sigurd, he'll teach you the Mystic Spearhand vocation the moment you talk to him. Note that Sigurd will help you fight any dragons in the vicinity as well.
Lastly, you can encounter Sigurd for a fourth time (in case you missed all the previous opportunities). However, that's tied to the true ending of the game.
Magick-Archer unlock location
The Dragon's Dogma 2 Magick-Archer is unlocked as part of a quest that takes place in Agamen Volcanic Island. The first step is to reach the Windwalker's Home.
Magick-Archer unlock requirement: Complete Put a Spring in Thy Step
Upon reaching the Windwalker's Home, you'll meet an elf woman named Cliodhna. She'll ignore you, so you have to go back the way you came to help her husband, a dwarf named Gautstafr. After that, you need to bring Gautstafr to the Hot Springs. You can learn more in our Magick-Archer/Put a Spring in Thy Step guide.
Once you manage to reach the area, Cliondhna will surprise you--not just because she'll grant you the Magick-Archer vocation, but also because she'll reveal herself as the Magick-Archer Maister. This means you'll receive the class' ultimate technique, too.
Warfarer unlock location
Tackling the aforementioned Put a Spring in Thy Step quest leads you to the Volcanic Island Camp Hot Springs. There, you'll meet a man named Lamond.
Warfarer unlock requirement: The Sotted Sage
Give Lamond three bottles of Newt Liqueur to complete his quest. He'll teach you the Warfarer vocation, as well as the Maister's technique for it. The ability allows you to switch to any equipped weapon for any class on the fly. You can learn more about this in our Warfarer/Newt Liqueur locations guide.
And that does it for our guide on how to unlock all vocations in Dragon's Dogma 2. Remember to level up and earn discipline for the ones that you really like. You can always switch to the ones that you have access to so you can try them later on. Moreover, be sure to unlock ultimate techniques by speaking with Vocation Maisters.
