Although you face tens of thousands of enemies throughout your travels in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you're still bound to make a few friends. Some, in particular, might join your side as valuable allies. Here's our guide on how to unlock all companions in Dynasty Warriors: Origins.
All officer companions in Dynasty Warriors: Origins
There are 10 officer companions in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. Prior to the start of certain missions, you'll be able to select one of them to accompany you. However, in most cases, this may depend on the faction/force that you're with at that given time.
Can you pick any companion for any battle?
This is possible, but only after completing a campaign. There are also some caveats:
- After finishing the campaign, you can load your clear save file and check the Inn. If you look at the Story tab, you will see that there are chapter replay points and battle replays.
- Chapter replay points let you restart from a specific portion of the campaign. The battles you tackle at this stage are still related to progression, so you can only pick a few officers depending on the faction that you're with.
- Battle replays allow you to pick engagements that you've already completed beforehand. These are one-offs (not related to progression). As such, you can choose any companion that you've unlocked. For instance, you can have Zhao Yun help you as part of Sun Ce's forces in a fight against Liu Yao and Yan Baihu.
What are the functions of officer companions?
The Dynasty Warriors: Origins companions offer several benefits in combat:
- Battle arts chains - If a companion is right next to you and you activate a battle art, they may also perform one of their own, causing extra damage.
- Extreme musou - If an officer's musou gauge is full, you can activate your own musou while the two of you are linked. This triggers an even more devastating ultimate ability.
- Officer switch and musou rage - When an officer's gauge is 100% filled, you can gain control of them temporarily. You'll be able to use their weapon skills, musous, and musou rage.
- Additional survivability - In some instances, an officer needs to survive a battle. If you select them as your companion, then they'll follow you around wherever you go, lowering the risk that they'd get surrounded by foes.
