The weekend of September 10 is the D23 expo. It's a celebration of everything Disney, and on Saturday, a huge slate of upcoming Marvel and Star Wars movies were announced during a very long panel at the show. Get ready for a whole bunch of announcements revolving around your favorite characters from the MCU and a galaxy far, far away.
Up until today, the future of Star Wars was a little foggy. There have been no movies planned, but there are TV shows in the works, like Andor, which hits Disney+ on September 21. There's also other Lucasfilms announcements--as there was an Indiana Jones costume on display at D23. But that's not all coming from Disney by way of announcements.
Marvel's future already has a pretty good layout, considering all the announcements that came out about Phase 5 and Phase 6 during this past year's San Diego Comic-Con. However, the D23 panel is diving a bit deeper into what we can expect from the upcoming movies and TV shows that will appear on Disney+.
Check out every Marvel, Star Wars, and Lucasfilm announcement below.
On Friday, there were a lot of announcements from Disney for their live-action and animated movies. Pixar announced Inside Out 2, there was a teaser for the live-action Little Mermaid, Jamie Lee Curtis joined the cast of Haunted Mansion, and a new Hocus Pocus 2 trailer.
To check out some of the other Disney announcements, check out every Disney movie and TV show announced on Friday.
Andor
The next Star War series hits Disney+ on September 21, and the cast and crew are very close to shooting the next 12 episodes of the series. Diego Luna, who plays the titular character, spoke during the panel and said, "It's about the awakening of a revolutionary. You'll see a whole community reacting. It's about bringing about change."
Additionally, the final trailer for Andor was revealed as well.
Willow
A new poster arrived for Willow. The upcoming Disney+ series--arriving on November 30--also announced Christian Slater is joining the cast, and a trailer arrived.
Tales of the Jedi
The upcoming Disney+ original hits the service on October 26. The animated show will consist of six episodes and three episodes will follow Count Dooku while three will follow Ahsoka. A trailer for the show also arrived.
Bad Batch
Season 2 will arrive on Disney+ on January 4, 2023. It will have a two episode premiere.
Ahsoka
There wasn't a trailer or a release date, but we did hear a little about the show from Jon Favreau: "In the second season of Mandalorian, we were able to bring in a character Dave [Filoni] had been thinking about for live-action when he was on Clone Wars. The idea of introducing her through the show was a way to see if the audience wanted to see this character. That process made us feel confident, and I get to be down there on the set with Dave right here in California, and it’s remarkable what they’re able to accomplish with all the knowledge Dave has--amazing action, lightsaber battles. Dave is hitting the top of his game"
Skeleton Crew
There was no footage for the upcoming show. Jon Watts and Christopher Ford briefly talked about the show, which follows a group of kids who are lost in the Star Wars galaxy. This show will be set in the New Republic era. They have been filming for a few weeks now. Jude Law will also be on the show.
The Mandalorian
Season 3 of the hit Disney+ series sadly won't be arriving until 2023. However, we did get a teaser for the upcoming new episodes, and it looks pretty great.
Indiana Jones
Footage was shown to those attending the panel. James Mangold, Harrison Ford, and Phoebe Waller Bridge all took the stage and spoke to the audience during their segment. "I had the time of my life," Waller-Bridge said. "Keeping up with this guy [Ford] is exhausting. We got to do so many unbelievable things together and chase each other around the most incredible places, brought back everything everyone loves and needs from these films, and brought this extra sparkle."
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
The cast and director Ryan Coogler came out to talk about the movie. We still don't know who is wearing the Black Panther costume, but those in attendance did get some exclusive footage to watch, which we break down here.
Ironheart
Arriving in 2023, there was some footage revealed of the show which shows Riri building the suit. Anthony Ramos came to the stage during the presentation. He plays The Hood. "He’s a little bit of both (good guy and bad guy)," Ramos said. "He's a complex guy and he was a misfit and he's like I want to take in other misfits. I want to show the world that you looked at us as outcasts, but we're going to end on top. It's a deep, deep dive into a very dark place he goes into unfortunately, but I think on the inside, Parker believes truly that he’s doing good. Parker has a love for his crew and he has a love for his people. Parker kicks ass."
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Exclusive footage was shown to the crowd.
Here's what happened: Scott, Hope, and Cassie listening to Scott's audiobook of his memoir. There's a montage. Scott and Hope on a red carpet, bailing Cassie out of jail, Scott being mistaken for Spider-Man. Cassie creates a device that sends signals to Quantum Realm. They all get sucked into it--including Michael Douglass and Michelle Pfeiffer. Bill Murray makes an appearance. Kang takes Cassie prisoner and uses that to force Scott to steal something for him. Kang is seemingly in the Quantum Realm. And it looks as though the majority of the film is set there.
Werewolf By Night
This Halloween special is inspired by 1930s and '40s horror movies. It stars Gael Garcia Bernal and Laura Donnelly, and a trailer was released for it.
Secret Invasion
The first Secret Invasion trailer has arrived. Coming to Disney+ in 2023, the story will feature Nick Fury returning to Earth to take on Skrulls who have been living as humans on the planet.
Armor Wars
Yes, it's still happening. Don Cheadle announced he will return for the upcoming Disney+ series. In the show, Stark armor tech gets into the wrong hands, and only James Rhodes stands in the way. It is a six-part series, and Secret Invasion will lead directly into it. Shooting has not begun yet.
Fantastic Four
Some expected casting news for the F4 movie. There was none. However, is was announced the movie will be in theaters on November 8, 2024, and it will be directed by Matt Shakman (WandaVision).
Echo
Filming has wrapped for the Disney+ series, which is a spin-off of Hawkeye. Footage was shown at D23, which featured Kingpin at the end of it.
Daredevil: Born Again
Charlie Cox was out to talk about the new Daredevil series. "It's emotional. What an odd feeling to have been doing this for a while but we're starting again."
The show will consist of 18 episodes and starts filming next year.
Captain America: New World Order
Julius Onah will direct the fourth Captain America movie, which will star Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, Carl Lumley as Isaiah Bradley, and Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres. The big news was that Tim Blake Nelson will be back as The Leader, a character set up 14 years ago at the end of The Incredible Hulk.
Thunderbolts
The cast for the upcoming upcoming 2024 movies was announced. The characters to make up this superteam include Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Red Guardian, Ghost, John Walker, Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, and Taskmaster.
The Marvels
Exclusive footage was shown off to the crowd, set to the song "Intergalactic" by Beastie Boys. Nia DaCosta will direct, and the movie will star Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani.
