Every Overwatch League Skin: Here's All The Team Skin And How To Get Them

By Chris Pereira and Joey Yee on January 23, 2018 at 3:32AM PST

GameSpot may receive revenue from affiliate and advertising partnerships for sharing this content and from purchases through links.

With the inaugural season of Overwatch League getting underway, Blizzard has released a new update for Overwatch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Among a variety of other things, it adds a huge number of skins to the game--312, to be precise. Each of the game's 26 characters receives 12 new skins, each themed around one of the dozen teams participating in Overwatch League's first season.

Unlike typical skins, you won't be grinding loot boxes in order to get your hands on these. Instead, they're sold with a newly introduced currency, League Tokens. Skins are sold individually for 100 Tokens. You'll receive 100 for free just by logging in before February 13, but past that point, you'll need to pay up. Doing so isn't cheap: 100 Tokens cost $5, although higher-priced bundles (ranging up to $100 for 2,600) will bring down the dollar-to-Token ratio. Still, amassing a complete set will run you in the neighborhood of $1,200.

In the event that seems unreasonable to you, we've amassed a collection of screenshots showcasing all of the new skins. You can see all of these in the gallery above.

Overwatch League Season 1's first matches began on January 10. The competition will go on for six months, with champions being named later this year. For much more on what to expect, check out our rundown on how to watch Overwatch League, a roundup of all the Overwatch League teams and rosters, and a recap of everything you need to know.

I support Blizzard’s loot boxes during certain events and am ok with some probability that I will get 4-5 rare skins for hero’s I want, as well as filling out hero speech sound selection for use in game. I’m ok with paying $20 into that maybe once or twice a year during events since this game to me is still fun. I don’t just drop $20 during non-events.

I do not support this approach of charging $5 per color palette swap though. It’s ridiculous and I will be voting no by not making any purchases. Simple as that.

I wish you could buy like a teams set for like 20 bucks. Each for 5 is a bit high for my blood.

@kargion: A single NBA jersey is easily $80+. I think of these skins much like a professional sports team's jersey, and I think the prices are very reasonable when put in that perspective. You're supporting the team/s that you're purchasing the skin (jersey) of.

@shawty_beatz: Yes I am. These skins were specifically designed for the pro teams, and made available for sale to players of Overwatch to represent the pro team. The circumstances under which you buy it are variable–you may just like the specific color combination but not the team, and that's fine.

The only reason you have a dissonant perception of value between the two is because, as you said, one is digital and one is physical.

I can assure you that the $100 LeBron jersey was lazily made in some eastern country for the lowest possible price, and then marked up for the highest possible return. Physical or not, even $20+ is probably more than the cost of production.

If you don't like the pro skins, then don't buy them. If you do, then shell out $5 to get one for your favorite character.

Essentially, I'm just saying that their existence is fundamentally the same as physical jerseys you buy for a sports team, regardless of what other people here are saying.

    1. There is a pro team

    2. That pro team wears something specific during matches.

    3. The league allows fans of the game to purchase the same thing that the pros wear for a cost.

Simple as that. I'm open to arguments that they're over-priced, but this notion that they are anything but a result of pro-league promotion is ignorant, along the fact that there are apparently a ton of entitled people here who think everything in the world should be free.

@Greyfox-101: Let’s be real, 99% of the people purchasing these skins could care less about said team. They find the skins that they like the most, and buy them, without giving a rats ass what team they’re supporting.

@dashaka: Just because the people don't care about the team doesn't mean that the Overwatch devs aren't trying to change the culture of that. That's the whole reason behind the teams having cities, to make it more like a professional sports team.

Really people? This is seriously all your problem? Whining about having to pay for Chroma skins? Like did you all just realise how OW's business model works?

"Customization is part of the game and should be free in full price games." Are you really this stupid to say this? The Standard Edition is 40 USD also it was 50% off on its Anniversary.

"Taking advantage of their fanbase - milking them for everything they have." So you want ACTUAL CONTENTS (heroes, maps) to locked behind paywalls instead of paying for skins?

Do you want the game to succeed or want it to be like Diablo 3 is, to not recieve any meaningful contents anymore?

It's all your fault if you can't stick to 4-5 main heroes and buy skins for those and equip the random free ones you got so far for your less used heroes.

@wyvern_kardia: I mean, you wouldn't expect to show up at an NBA or NFL game and just walk into store and the arena and take whatever you wanted for free, so I don't know why people are complaining.

Paid cosmetics are the best route to go. Games like Overwatch and Siege really get it right, where Battlefront 2 failed miserably because they actually locked base gameplay content behind impossible grind times coupled with a paywall.

People don't seem to get that they get 100% of the game, and all real additional core content for free, in exchange for having to pay for ultimately meaningless skins for the characters if those choose to do so. If they don't nothing changes for them.

Again, sure buying all of them might be $1200, but you're probably not going to buy every player's jersey available for the Cavaliers, Patriots, Penguins, etc. either, which would also be expensive

@monckey4: That's a false equivalency. Football and other sports aren't free to play either. You have to buy a ball at the very least.

But that's not the point is it? You don't need to buy an Overwatch team skin to watch an Overwatch match either.

Say whatever you want man, but this company is taking advantage of the most vulnerable among their fan base and milking them for everything they have. Customization is part of the game and should be free in full price games. I wouldn't care to be honest, but "junkies" who defend and support such practices are messing up gaming for the rest of us.

    1. They're just recolors ways to represent the team you rep.

    2. Not buying? cool don't waste time bitching on a online forum its 2018 grow up

    3. Don't think they are really in it for the money when you compare em to games like Star Wars and call of duty.

    4. Consider this we get maps and new characters for free. we don't have to pay for those ever we bought the game, and at least 99% of the game is free not going to count these skins as more than 1% of the game considering its just recolors

    5. no point in collecting them all because not everyone really plays all characters all the time. me i'm a defender main on console and a mercy main on pc wouldn't change any of my skins for just a recolor even though i support the gladiators

    6. what do you care if you're not the whale unless secretly you are and that's why you're complaining.

    7. again see point 3 everything in overwatch is cosmetic unlike star wars where loot boxes give you more characters, or call of duty where loot boxes can give you new weapons

    8. if you are a whale bitching on here its not hard to break the habit at all. i used to be one back when Black ops 3 came out now i put my money to food, bills, new games, Etc.

    9. for the people arguing with these people stop its a waste of time i wont be replying to anyone so don't waste time typing if you do you didn't read all the way thru. don't have time to read what cry babies have to say.

    10. yea loot boxes are a bit of plague but again everything in ow is cosmetic. at least it isn't like shadow of mordor a Single player game that got lootboxes for whatever reason.

    11. Consider this Blizzard is nowhere near hurting for money do your research they make lots of money off WOW subs and their other games combined.

    12. and lastly if you says its gambling then you didn't read clearly you saw the word pay and were more triggered than a unreal feminist you pay you get points to buy the ones you want that's not gambling far from it actually. because you see gambling is i pay for a chance at getting them, but theres a chance i don't get them. If you disagree with me cool i really don't care. I've said all i have to say about this like i said i'm not going to reply to anyone just wanted to put in my two cents. because arguing with people online is just too much of a hassle since all anyone ever does in online arguments now is just repeat themselves till they win without using more points to prove their side anyways good bye have a nice day

@SCORPIO71: this is just skins, doesn't really give much for that, as for EA and Battlefront 2, it was a whole different story, the lootboxes in that game was the only way for you to get new stuff, and new heroes to play as... so more or less progressing in multiplayer was locked behind the boxes

@cyberknigt: Yeah, but they're just skins, doesn't really work anymore. Cosmetics in this age of online play are important. They help separate ourselves from other players, they give us a feeling of individuality. It's why there's whole sites dedicated to character customizations, etc.

To quote Jimquistion, "Who wants to play plain old boring Zenyatta when you can play freaking Cthullu Zenyatta?" Skins can tell story and lore about a character, art matters in a game, just as much as gameplay.

So selling all these skins honestly, in a full price game, is just wrong. If it were F2P, sure, that's how they make money, but Blizzard clearly isn't hurting for money.

@inebriantia: I understand the concept of skins, that is how skins are supposed to work, in a game. But Blizzard has given the option to buy loot boxes and in-game credits for the team specific skins... and you can get 2 of the skins for free, as you start with 100 credits and could get 100 more for subscribing to their newsletter...

Anyway Overwatch isn't really full price for a game (Except GotY Edition) it is priced at €39.99 which is like €20 below full price for most games these days, and they keep bringing update and new content to the game, so we can see why they have the option to sell the loot boxes, and those OWL credits, as they can't really keep bringing new stuff into the game, without a constant flow of cash... unfortunately i'm saying it this way as if i remember correctly, the income from each game goes to the developement teams of each game, so they can keep giving more stuff...

So unless i have misunderstood something about how blizzard works their way with the loot boxes and stuff, then it's ok for blizzard to do so...

eh. I get one for free, and I only want one, to support my city....or at least, the team with my city's name in it.

but anyway, don't really see the issue. Vanity items. You can basically get one of these costumes for cheaper than a drink (at a bar, not McDonald's). I wouldn't call that expensive considering I get to use it over and over, but the drink literally turns to piss within seconds.

People just see something they want and fuss that it's not being given away. The bigger issue is that these are lazy reskins. What if each team had its own unique costumes...that'd be nice and Blizzard can certainly afford that.

It's hard to believe people are even complaining about this. It's not like they are charging for a new hero or map. The argument that they shouldn't do this because "whales" out there can't resist is absolutely ridiculous. I'm pretty sure they aren't making a business strategy based on .0001% of people who have to collect every single skin. At the end of the day it is a business they are suppose to try and make money who cares. If it changed the game in any way that would be one thing but to complain about team skins ridiculous. If your into OWL then buy your team skin for your favorite character. If your like me and don't see the value then don't buy it. They game is the same either way.

@mtgamer03: Customization is part of the experience. If it wasn't then no one would bother putting them in games. Check out the Skyrim modding community and tell me skins aren't desired in games. You are being a Blizzard apologist by even uttering that it's "okay" to nickel and dime their fans because they're a business. Skins are part of the experience. Blizzard is raking in the cash. Please give me a break.

@Oni: wait... You only play overwatch for the skins?

Not sure about the rest of you, but I don't really care what skin my character has because, fun fact, it's a first person shooter. I.e., you don't see your skin, others do.

Also, if you're spending more time looking at a skin that serves absolutely no function than you do playing the game, that's all on you. I play it because I enjoy playing the game.

@ everyone else bringing up how much Blizzard is making: so? Isnt that the point of a business - making money for your idea? The level of crying about this is unreal. It's like you people are offended and appalled that a company is providing a service and isn't going broke.

@Oni: I'm certainly not a Blizzard apologist. OverWatch is the only game I even play by them. Skins are absolutely desirable that why they make money off of them. What I am saying is the it is OK for a business to try and make money. In fact it is required for them to make money. If the skins gave double damage perks I would be mad. They don't. Ots just a look. If you don't want it don't buy it.

gaming today is taking a really sad way.

as you can see, my avatar show the love i had for blizzard during 20+ years, but after activision corruption took it over, never will buy a blizzard game or gaming as service.

The Florida Mayhem skins remind me of McDonald's.
