The highly-anticipated next-generation update for Fallout 4 has finally arrived, introducing seven new quests and a flurry of additional content for fans to enjoy. The 2015 RPG hasn't been majorly updated in several years, but the fresh content has breathed life back into the Commonwealth. One of the significant pieces of content in the update is a quest called "Echoes of the Past," where the infamous Enclave faction finally makes its presence known in Massachusetts.

In the quest, you're tasked with tracking down various Enclave encampments to stop their forces from spreading across the Wasteland. You can also pick up some Enclave-themed cosmetics and high-powered weapons and armor throughout the questline. To see precisely how to complete Echoes of the Past and earn everything it offers in Fallout, check out the guide below.

    Starting Echoes of the Past

Echoes of the Past is started automatically if you have a decently leveled character already in place in Fallout 4. However, if you're starting from scratch, you'll have to wait until you reach a certain point in the story before the quest is added to your quests log.

When Echoes of the Past is available to start, the first goal of the quest is to investigate the last known location of a missing caravan. This leads you to the northeast corner of the map, where the quest marker is fixed on some blood spatter. You need to follow the blood spatter trail until you reach a group of three Enclave soldiers, one of whom is wearing Power Armor and has a Napalmer weapon that shoots balls of fire at you.

Defeat these soldiers and then look at the terminal in their base to read what the Enclave has been up to. It's here where you'll see they're in the process of tracking down some advanced weapons and armor, including the X-02 Power Armor, Hellfire Power Armor, Tesla Cannon, and Incinerator. You can read each item's terminal entry to get a lead on where they're located, but we have individual guides that go over how to acquire each item in Fallout 4 as well.

The terminal also contains the coordinates for another Enclave encampment in the Glowing Sea, which is your next stop. These are found within the "Download Homing Beacon Frequency" entry.

After downloading the Homing Beacon Frequency, look on your map to find another quest marker, which is on the outskirts of the Glowing Sea. When you reach the area, tune your radio to the "Enclave Homing Beacon" station. You can then begin to walk further into the Glowing Sea and a percentage will appear in the top-left corner of the screen.

Keep moving in the direction that offers a bump in the percentage. For a rough estimate, though, you need to head southwest until you discover the Enclave Atlantic Offices. Right when you arrive, an Enclave soldier with Power Armor starts attacking you from the roof. This soldier has a Tesla Cannon, one of the new weapons with the next-gen update. In addition to the soldier on the roof, an ambush of additional soldiers on the ground are going to attack as well. Defeat every soldier in the ambush and then enter the offices.

Kill the Enclave Colonel and end the Lockdown

The final step in the Echoes of the Past quest is to head inside the offices and kill all of the remaining soldiers. This includes the Enclave Colonel, who's located in a storage room. The colonel has the Enclave Terminal Password on his body, which you can loot and bring over to the terminal in the adjacent room.

Once you enter the password, you can press "End the Lockdown," which completes the Echoes of the Past quest. However, before you go, make sure you click on the Eastern, Western, and Southern Enclave Encampment terminal entries. These give you map coordinates for each of the encampments, and you can visit them to unlock new Enclave-themed cosmetics.

    Western Enclave Encampment

    Western Enclave Encampment

While visiting the encampments isn't technically part of the Echoes of the Past questline, it is an extension of it. First, you can visit the Western Encampment, which is located in the middle of the northern part of the map. Each encampment is marked with a star in a circle icon.

When you get to the Western Encampment, take out all of the guards and then press "Activate" on the radio beacon in the middle of the camp. This deactivates the tower and ensures the Enclave doesn't garner any additional forces in the area. After deactivating the tower, look on the desk with the terminal and pick up the "Enclave Entrenchment Manual." Doing so gives you access to the following Enclave-themed items:

    • Enclave Paint Job for Power Armor
    • Enclave Flag and Create for Settlement Workshops
    Eastern Enclave Encampment

    Eastern Enclave Encampment

Next up, you can take a trip east and visit the Eastern Encampment, tucked in the map's northeast corner. Here, you can follow the same process as you did with the Western Encampment. This includes removing the guards, deactivating the radio beacon, and picking up the Entrenchment Manual. This time, though, the manual grants you access to the following:

    • Build the Enclave Laser Turret and Enclave Com Tower at Settlement Workshops
    Southern Enclave Encampment

    Southern Enclave Encampment

Your final encampment is located in the far southern part of the map, in the Glowing Sea region. Yet again, you need to eliminate all of the guards, deactivate the radio beacon, and gain access to the following item after looting the Entrenchment Manual:

    • Build the Enclave Barricade at Settlement Workshops

Once you have looted all three Enclave Encampments, you're completely done with the Echoes of the Past questline in Fallout 4. However, don't forget to follow the questlines that reward you with the sets of X-02 Power Armor and Hellfire Power Armor, Tesla Cannon, and Incinerator. We have guides on how to find each of those items, so check them out to completely take advantage of the next-gen update in Fallout 4.
