Countless activities dot every corner of the map in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. While most of these aren't required to progress the story further, we suggest tackling them for rewards and the excitement of exploration. Here's our Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth World Intel guide to help you with the tasks given to you by Chadley.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth World Intel guide
World Intel is a catch-all term for the objectives given to you by Chadley, who had previously aided Cloud during his escapades in Midgar. Now, Chadley wants to learn about life outside the city, and it's up to you to make new discoveries in his stead.
Why complete World Intel activities
There are many reasons why you should complete World Intel in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth:
- Party XP/Level - Each activity you complete grants party XP. As your party level increases, you're able to select more options in each character's Folio, such as additional Synergy Skills/Abilities and Limit Breaks.
- Fast travel - Every World Intel objective you complete unlocks that particular spot as a fast travel point, allowing you to go to other areas in a speedy manner. You can learn about this feature in our fast travel methods guide.
- Rewards - You can obtain a lot of resources and Transmuter blueprints.
- Materia Crafting - The data you gather are used a points/currency. You can then buy materia that Chadley sells.
- Challenges - Some might like the thrill of battling the foes in certain tasks.
- Discovery - Certain activities also enrich exploration and discovery. There are even those that have callbacks to past events, as well as secrets that might be revealed in due course.
Activation Intel: Remnawave Towers
Think of Remnawave Towers as somewhat akin to sync points in Assassin's Creed games. All you need to do is defeat surrounding enemies, climb the tower, and interact with the terminal. A beam of light will shoot to the sky, and other points-of-interest will appear on your world map. You should definitely prioritize Remnawave Towers when you visit new regions so you can see other objectives that you can tackle along the way.
As an aside, this task is fairly simple early on (i.e. you usually just climb a ladder to reach a terminal). Later, though, you need to use various traversal methods, such as the Grappling Hook and Chocobos in regions. So, yes, Cloud might not have eagles or ravens like fellow tower-climbing enthusiasts Bayek and Eivor, but he does have his own birds that help with the task.
Expedition Intel: Lifesprings
Lifesprings are solidified clusters of the Lifestream found tucked away in niches. When you're close to one, you should notice a glowing bird known as a Springseeker Owl, which leads you to its habitat.
Approach the Lifespring and successfully complete the minigame by pressing the Triangle button when the reticle is within the glowing circle. Upon activation, you obtain certain rewards, such as background lore about the region, a potential Excavation Site, or the location of a dangerous fiend (more on these in a while).
Fiend Intel: Combat Assignments
Combat Assignments have you fighting against variants of monsters found in a particular zone. There are also certain tallies/requirements that you should complete within the given time limit. For instance, you might be asked to pressure or stagger an opponent. Alternatively, there are those that require you to avoid debilitating status effects.
Note that completing all required objectives nets you the highest amount of party XP. If you fail, you can always retry the encounter by holding the Triangle button while in the area.
Classified Intel: Dangerous Fiends
Upon tagging all Lifesprings in a given region, Chadley reveals the location of a Dangerous Fiend, a unique monster that's more dangerous than other creatures that you've faced. These targets drop special materials, too, and they can be farmed by holding the Triangle button to retry the battle. You can learn more about these beasts in our Dangerous Fiends guide.
Moogle Intel: Mogstools
Mogstools are the giant mushroom houses of Moogles. Step inside one and you'll find yourself in a play space where several Moogles are running amok. The goal is to round them all up and bring them to the center. Doing so unlocks stuff that you can purchase by spending Moogle Medals. You can learn more about these locations in our Mogstools and Moogle Shops guide.
Chocobo Intel: Chocobo Wrangling
When searching for World Intel in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you ought to have a speedy means of exploration--which means catching the region's Chocobo. These big birds have unique traversal capabilities depending on their native region. But before you can make use of them as mounts, you need to complete stealth-based minigames to wrangle them. You can learn more in our Chocobo locations guide.
Excavation Intel: Excavation Sites
The Lifesprings that you activate may reveal the location of an Excavation Site. Travel to these areas and use your Chocobo mount to search for buried resources. Here's what you need to do:
- Walk around until a circle with a question mark symbol appears above the Chocobo's head.
- Press and hold the Up button on the D-pad for your Chocobo to "Scent" the area. A small arrow should appear, and you should have your Chocobo face toward that direction. This will reveal a faint line that you can follow.
- Follow the faint line and continue using the Scent action until you see a glowing marker on the ground. Move toward this spot and press the Down button on the D-pad so your Chocobo can "Scour" the area. The bird will peck and claw out buried items.
- These rewards include blueprints for your Item Transmuter, allowing you to craft better consumables, upgrade materials, and equipment.
Divine Intel: Summon Crystals
Each region has its own summoned deity, a powerful entity whose aid you can acquire upon defeating them in battle. However, instead of rushing to fight them, we suggest looking for Guidestones. Break these glowing rocks to spawn a spark that guides you to a Summon Crystal.
Upon interacting with a Summon Crystal, you need to press buttons in the correct sequence, while taking note of the timing--i.e. Circle-wait-X-Circle-Circle-wait-Square-Square.
Each region has three Summon Crystals that you can analyze in this manner. Activating all of them causes the following:
- You can choose to fight a weakened form of the summoned entity via Chadley's Combat Simulator. With three crystals activated, you can pick the "Easy Mode" battle.
- The first two crystals that you activate grant bonus levels for the summon.
- The third crystal you activate grants an extra ability for the summon.
In any case, you can learn about these powerful entities and creatures in our summon materia guide.
Phenomenon Intel: Protorelics
Protorelics aren't necessarily quick-and-easy tasks. They're more akin to quest chains in their own right. Here's a quick summary:
- The first Protorelic location tends to appear after you advance further or fully complete the main storyline objective in a region.
- You have to finish each Protorelic step in sequential order.
- Regions have their own unique tasks, including some minigames. There are also callbacks to previous events that long-time fans are sure to love.
- Completing all four Protorelic activities in a region triggers a cutscene that shows a certain Eccentric Swordsman, which we don't want to spoil here. You can learn more about these things in our Protorelics guide.
In any case, these are the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth World Intel activities that you can expect. As you're exploring every region and zone, don't forget to make use of various fast travel methods, too.
