The final season of Game of Thrones is upon us. With the Season 8 premiere, Jon Snow finally learned the truth of his parentage and rode the dragon named after his father, while Euron arrived in King's Landing with the Golden Company and Qyburn sent Bronn north to kill her brothers with the crossbow that slayed their father. Yup, it was a lot.
Throughout all those significant events, the writing was pretty on point. There were some real zingers, from Arya finally reuniting with Jon to Bran's cryptic prediction that might have gone over viewers' heads.
We broke down some of the episode's biggest moments already, from Jon riding a dragon to why that crossbow matters. Read our episode review for the premiere if you want to know what we thought. And read on for our favorite moments and lines from the Game of Thrones Season 8 premiere.
"What do dragons eat anyway?" "Whatever they want."
This line of Dany's in response to Sansa's halfhearted attitude was the perfect encapsulation of the Dragon Queen's attitude. This is why she needs strong advisers to curb her worst instincts.
"Have you ever used it?" "Once or twice."
The last time Arya and Jon were face to face, she was a very different person. Not surprising that Jon would underestimate her now.
"I'm defending our family. So is she."
Allegiances in Winterfell have shifted since the last time all these characters were together. How will they shift further when everyone learns the truth about Jon?
"You want a whore? Buy one. You want a queen? Earn her."
Even when she's about to give it up, Cersei has great one liners. Don't forget she was the source of "When you play the game of thrones..." back in the day.
"I wanted those elephants."
As did we all, Cersei.
"It's cold up here for a Southern girl." "So keep your queen warm."
No matter how cynical I get, part of me can't help but feel giddy over Jon and Dany flirting. Even if it's a little gross.
"First I robbed you. THEN I left you to die."
Arya has developed quite an attitude over the past seven-plus seasons. Good thing she can back it up with more than words.
"You're a cold little bitch, aren't you? I guess that's why you're still alive."
So much for the lone wolf dying while the pack survives.
"What are you doing out here?" "Waiting for an old friend."
This line from Bran to Sam could be easy to misinterpret, but by the end it was clear: Bran spent the whole episode waiting in Winterfell's frigid outer yard so he could be the first Stark to greet Jamie. At least, that's how we interpreted it. Why their meeting is significant--beyond the sheer schadenfreude--is something we'll hopefully learn more about next week.
