Werewolves are some of the most interesting creatures you can find or play as in a video game. The lore behind werewolves is fascinating, as they appear as regular humans but can shape-shift into a wolf-like creature. This shapeshifting can occur by choice or by force of nature depending on how the individual came to be a werewolf. In video games, players are often given the choice to transform into a werewolf, giving them more freedom in how to approach certain situations. However, some games only feature werewolves as enemies you're meant to defeat or as characters you can interact with.
In any case, whenever a werewolf appears in a video game, your attention is immediately directed toward them. You want to know how the werewolf came to be, if you can transform into one yourself, or simply how to defeat it. Today, we'll be going over 15 games you can play right now that feature werewolves in some capacity. These games can offer you the choice to play as a werewolf, transform into a werewolf for short durations, or simply have werewolves as characters to meet or fight. This list is in no particular order and primarily features games that are widely available today. If you're looking for something more overtly frightening, check out the best horror games to play in 2024, as well as the best horror games on Game Pass.
The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall/Morrowind/Skyrim
- Developer: Bethesda
- Release Date: November 11, 2011 (Skyrim)
- Playable Werewolf?: Yes
- Genre: RPG
- Platforms: PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC
The Elder Scrolls franchise has been no stranger to featuring werewolves. With the exception of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, you've been able to play as a werewolf in every main series Elder Scrolls title since Daggerfall. This primarily happens through Lycanthropy, which is a disease that turns victims into werewolves. You can contract Lycanthropy, either by choice or by being bitten by a werewolf, in Daggerfall, Morrowind (as part of the Bloodmoon expansion), and Skyrim. Skyrim is the only game where you're given a choice to become a werewolf, which is done through completing the Companions questline. Werewolves are quite rare in Elder Scrolls titles as enemies, but when you see one, it's equally terrifying and thrilling.
It should also be noted that Elder Scrolls Online allows you to play as a werewolf through a skill line, which offers exclusive passive, active, and ultimate skills.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood
- Developer: Cyanide
- Release Date: February 4, 2021
- Playable Werewolf?: Yes
- Genre: ARPG
- Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC
The Werewolf: The Apocalypse series consists of perhaps the ultimate video games when it comes to living out a fantasy as a werewolf. While Earthblood wasn't as well received as its predecessors, it's one of the most popular werewolf video games to release in the last several years. In Earthblood, you play as Cahal, a human who can transform into a stealthy wolf or a monstrous werewolf who can decimate enemies at will. The core gameplay loop of the game sees you infiltrate enemy camps to cross to the other side. You can interact with cameras and doors to avoid getting caught, but if you are spotted, then you have a fight on your hands. There are some RPG elements present in Earthblood that allow you to change your gameplay style, but much of the game features a similar mission flow and environments.
The Quarry
- Developer: 2K
- Release Date: June 10, 2022
- Playable Werewolf?: No
- Genre: Horror
- Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC
The Quarry is a horror game that features more werewolves than any other title in recent memory. The game starts off featuring a plethora of werewolves that antagonize the group of counselors you can take control of. As the game progresses, werewolves can infect many of these characters, causing them to turn into werewolves and go on violent, kill-filled rampages. The primary antagonist in The Quarry, known as The White Wolf, is responsible for a curse that the main characters encounter shortly after the game begins. The White Wolf is also the reason why there are so many werewolves in the game, as his violent outburst six years before the start of The Quarry started the wolf infestation.
The Quarry is not a game for the faint of heart, as there are plenty of jump scares, chilling moments, and horrifying encounters with werewolves.
Diablo 4
- Developer: Blizzard Entertainment
- Release Date: June 5, 2023
- Playable Werewolf?: Yes
- Genre: ARPG
- Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC
Diablo 4 might not be the first game you think of when discussing werewolves, but the creatures are very much a part of the action-RPG. If you choose the Druid class in Diablo 4, you're given the ability to use werewolf skills that transform you into the creature for a brief moment. After you complete the skill, you return to your human form. However, there are pieces of gear in Diablo 4 that make the werewolf their true form, allowing you to remain as a werewolf. Those gear pieces are considered endgame content, though, so you'll have to slowly make your way through the leveling system to reach that point.
Druids also have the ability to turn into werebears, which is essentially a massive bear that features similar skills to that of the werewolf.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
- Developer: CD Projekt Red
- Release Date: May 19, 2015
- Playable Werewolf?: No
- Genre: RPG
- Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC
Unfortunately for werewolf fans, Geralt of Rivia cannot turn into one or contract Lycanthropy in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. However, werewolves are fierce monsters in The Witcher 3 and have some of the best designs you'll find in a game. There are several werewolves to come across during your time as Geralt and Ciri. Ciri faces off against "The King of the Wolves" in one of her flashback quests while Geralt can encounter several, both through contracts and side quests. The most famous werewolf in The Witcher 3 is likely Morkvarg, who's at the center of the "In Wolf's Clothing" quest on Skellige. Like other werewolves in the game, Morkvarg is incredibly well-designed and voice-acted.

Bigby Wolf was once the Big Bad Wolf from the fable, and you get to interact with other fairytale characters throughout your time in the game. The main plot of the five episodes sees Wolf attempt to track a bloody murder that left residents of Fabletown shocked. Even if you're not familiar with Telltale Games' style, this is one you don't want to miss as a werewolf fan or video-game enjoyer in general.
Resident Evil Village
- Developer: Capcom
- Release Date: May 7, 2021
- Playable Werewolf?: No
- Genre: Survival Horror
- Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, iOS, PC
Once again, we have a game with fantastically designed werewolf enemies. Resident Evil Village features incredibly strong werewolves, known as Lycan, that can completely wreck your progress if you're unfortunate enough to run into one. Lycan in Village can climb up buildings, ambush you, and chase you down without breaking a sweat. You usually see Lycan in packs, making them even more intimidating to deal with, and most can be found sitting on rooftops to act as lookouts. If you're spotted by one, the Lycan will alert others in its pack to hunt you down. Killing a Lycan is no easy task, as the best practice is to get up close and use a shotgun. However, a well-placed shot with a sniper is a solid way to deal with Lycan on rooftops.
You'll only run into Lycan during the Village parts of the game, which gives you a chance to outrun them. If they get on all fours to chase you, though, it's best to just turn around and try to avoid what might be an inevitable fate.
Weird West
- Developer: WolfEye Studios
- Release Date: March 31, 2022
- Playable Werewolf?: Yes
- Genre: ARPG
- Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC
Believe it or not, Lycanthropy plays a large role in Weird West if you happen to find yourself in a certain situation. Many players who play through this Western action-RPG will likely never have to deal with becoming a werewolf, as the transformation is quite rare. However, if you or a companion have an item called a "Wolfsbane Clipping" in your inventory, wield a silver weapon, and manage to kill a wolf at night, you'll contract Lycanthropy. This disease can then be transferred to companions and other characters you capture in Weird West. You can also unlock an exclusive dialogue scene if you make it to the end of the Bounty Hunter journey as a werewolf. Werewolves likely won't play a role in your Weird West playthrough, but they can be a big part of it if you desire.

You can pick up the "Become the Wolf" special action during the Wildfire story in Guild Wars 2. The story itself features a Wolf character and allows you to become one at the end. You don't have to transform into a wolf, but the skills associated with Become the Wolf are quite strong and include Slashing and Rending Left Claw, Lunging Wolf Slam, Crushing Wolf Fist, and Spirit Howl. All of these skills become available to you only when you have transformed into a wolf. After you transform back to your original form, the skills disappear.

Blood of the Werewolf
- Developer: Scientifically Proven

Blood of the Werewolf is a side-scrolling platform that sees you take control of Selena, a widow, former mother, and werewolf. Your journey in Blood of the Werewolf involves using Selena's werewolf abilities to dish out revenge on those who killed her husband and kidnapped her child. The platformer begins simply but grows increasingly difficult, with some levels and boss fights seeming impossible when you first start them. The graphics and level design aren't anything cutting-edge--it's more than a decade-old at this point--but they're done well enough to keep you engaged for Blood of the Werewolf's 10-hour-plus campaign.
The Order: 1886
- Developer: Ready at Dawn
- Release Date: February 20, 2015
- Playable Werewolf?: No
- Genre: Action-Adventure
- Platforms: PS4
The Order: 1886 is often referred to as an underrated gem when it comes to PlayStation 4 games. While the game is notoriously short, there's plenty of solid gameplay to keep you entertained throughout. If you're looking for werewolves in The Order: 1886, you'll find them in the form of the Lycan enemies. These nine-foot-tall creatures are challenging to defeat initially, but they do become predictable the more you play. You'll see two types of Lycan, Soldiers and Elders, that play a role in the overarching story of The Order: 1886. There's one fight scene in particular that showcases the Lycan in all of its glory, despite it appearing somewhat weak compared to the main character in the scene.
Werewolves Within
- Developer: Red Storm Entertainment
- Release Date: December 6, 2016
- Playable Werewolf?: Yes
- Genre: Social Deduction/VR
- Platforms: Oculus Rift, PSVR, PC
Werewolves Within is a social deduction VR game that is somewhat comparable to Among Us. However, this game was released way back in 2016 for Oculus Rift and PSVR. In Werewolves Within, you join a multiplayer lobby of five to eight players. Your goal is to either determine who the werewolves are or keep your identity as a werewolf hidden. If you are a werewolf, then you have to lie and convince everyone else that you're not the werewolf. There are several rounds where all remaining players vote on who they believe is a werewolf. If you're voted as the werewolf, you're eliminated. Werewolves Within isn't as engaging as Among Us, but it's a fun game to play with friends or random strangers, and it later inspired a spin-off movie.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
- Developer: Nintendo
- Release Date: November 19, 2006
- Playable Werewolf?: Yes
- Genre: Action-Adventure
- Platforms: Nintendo GameCube, Wii, Wii U
Wrapping up our list is an entry from the Legend of Zelda series. Twilight Princess is the 13th installment of the Zelda series and it was released on the Nintendo GameCube and Wii, then remastered in HD for the Wii U. The game was rated T by the ESRB, unlike the usual E and E10+ ratings of Zelda games, due to its more mature content. Part of this mature content is the journey the main character Link takes, which sees him transform into a wolf, known as Wolf Link. As Wolf Link, you gain several new abilities but completely leave your original form behind. Wolf Link has heightened senses that allow you to uncover hidden items, track objectives, and find Spirit Forms of Hyrule citizens. You can also be used as a mount and have several different attacks.
Wolf Link reappears in Zelda: Breath of the Wild as a traveling and fighting companion if you scan the Wolf Link Amiibo. The companion can have more health and deal more damage depending on if you registered the Amiibo in Twilight Princess HD.
