CD Projekt Red has released a new update for Cyberpunk 2077, and like previous patches, this one makes some significant changes to several features in the game. Focused on player expression through cars, photography, and character customization, Update 2.2--which has been developed alongside French support studio Virtuos--is now available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game.
You can read the full patch notes through this link, but for a quick look at the biggest changes, you can catch all the highlights below.
One thing you won't see in this update if you're on PS5? A PS5 Pro patch, as CDPR has no plans to currently add one. Meanwhile, if you'd like to technically play the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel early, you might be able to do so when CDPR's playtest program expands to the US soon.
Fine-tune that paint job on your car
First up, players can expect expanded customization for their cars. Update 2.2 introduces more color-changing options, with finer details like saturation and hue being added. The CrystalCoat color-changing feature was initially only available for Rayfield cars in the game, but it can now also be used on Herrera, Mizutani, Quadra, and Villefort vehicles.
Car customization can help you escape the long arm of the law
To take things a step further, players will also be able to copy the color and patterns of other cars while they explore Night City, and apply those designs for a small fee. This is more than just a cosmetic option, as CDPR explained that it can be used to make a quick getaway from cops when you run afoul of the law.
Get your wallet ready, because there'll be more cars to collect
There'll also be 10 new cars added to the game, and these will all be vehicles that weren't previously available to own. Here's the full list:
- Mizutani Shion MZ1
- Mizutani Shion Targa MZT
- Thorton Galena GA32t
- Thorton Colby CST40
- Archer Quartz EC-L r275
- Quadra Type-66 640 TS
- Quadra Type-66 680 TS
- Mizutani Hozuki MH2
- Villefort Deleon V410-S Coupe (Phantom Liberty only)
- Mahir Supron FS3-T (Phantom Liberty only)
Johnny is coming along for the ride
Johnny Silverhand will also spawn in more regularly--roughly 25% of the time CDPR says--as a passenger in your ride, and he'll have a few comments to make while you cruise around town.
Virtual tourism is getting a big upgrade
The other big change in Update 2.2 is Cyberpunk 2077's photo mode, as CDPR has overhauled it to make it more powerful. When in Drone Mode, players will be able to move really far away from V, and CDPR says there will be no more camera collision in this mode.
Putting a new spin on first-person shooting
Not only will there be even more lighting and aspect ratio options to choose from, but you'll be able to spawn in popular characters from a list of 20--like Adam Smasher or the pop idols from Us Cracks--pose them, and grab a selfie.
According to CDPR, these are the options you can experiment with while in photo mode:
- Drone Camera is now a free camera instead of an orbital camera centered around V.
- Increased camera range.
- Full Collision (On/Off)
- Lock Camera (On/Off)
- Precise Camera (On/Off)
- Aspect Ratio (PC-only)
- Characters tab
- Lighting tab: spawn and adjust light sources.
- Fixed the Depth of Field ghosting issue.
- Added an Effect Intensity slider.
Show your photography off at home
The other neat feature in this upgraded mode is an improved gallery, and you'll be able to decorate your apartment with your photography. You can crop your image and choose one of several photo frames to display it in, allowing you to personalize your Night City home.
Upgraded character customization will take you from plain to punk
CDPR has also expanded on character customization, with 100 new elements across all categories. From weird ocular cosmetics to new cyberware, you can create a really wild-looking version of V, or if you feel like rolling the dice, a new randomizer function will let you generate a face that ranges from "plain" to "punk" on a scale of 1-10.
- 32 eye colors
- 18 lip makeup types
- 17 nail colors
- 10 cheek makeup types
- 16 eye makeup types
- 4 face scars
- 5 eyebrow shapes
- 4 face tattoos
- 2 body tattoos
- 8 cosmetic face cyberware options
