Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 isn't just about battles and booze. It's also about loot--lots and lots of items you can pick up or steal along the way. Of course, lugging around a lot of gear can be quite a hassle. Here's our guide on how to increase carry weight in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
How to increase carry weight in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 - Encumbrance guide
Encumbrance has been a key facet in role-playing games (RPGs) since time immemorial, and things are no different in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. If you go well above your carry weight, Henry won't be able to sprint and fast travel. Worse, you won't even be able to ride your horse mount. As such, it's imperative that you learn to manage encumbrance, lest you encounter issues during quests.
What affects carry weight?
The Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 carry weight and encumbrance mechanic is primarily governed by the Strength stat. The higher it is, the more items you'll be able to lug around.
Consequentially, being over-encumbered is actually the fastest way to increase the Strength stat. If you have tons of gear and items in Henry's inventory and you walk around a city, you're likely to gain more XP, too.
Perks that increase carry weight
Here are a few perks that increase carry weight in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2:
- Main Level: Well-Built - Gain +12 carrying capacity instead of +10 (default) for each point of Strength you have.
- Strength: Pack Mule - +12 carrying capacity.
- Strength: Strong As Bull - +20 carrying capacity.
- Strength: Hard-Working Lad - Carrying corpses and unconscious NPCs won't cost extra stamina; +8 carrying capacity.
Using storage chests
If you don't want to bring so many items with you all the time, you could just leave most of them in storage chests. These are usually found in bedrooms that you own:
- At certain points in the campaign, folks will allow you to stay in their abode. These rooms tend to have a storage chest.
- Taverns/inns offer long-term lodging and you need to pay upfront. The room you're assigned to usually has a storage chest.
- If the tavern only has a barn for you to sleep in, then there might not be a chest nearby.
- The contents are shared among all storage chests, so you should always have access to your stuff even if you're in another village.
Using your horse mount
You may also use your horse mount as a pack mule. This is done by mousing over an item and pressing the "X" key/button, which lets you move that item to your horse's inventory tab. Your horse also has a separate carrying capacity, which is primarily based on the equipped saddle, as well as the caparison.
Lastly, if you plan on selling a bunch of stuff to merchants, always remember where you stored your items (i.e. whether inside a chest or in your horse's inventory). You need to move these items back to Henry's own inventory before you can trade them to a vendor.
