Many quests in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 take you to all sorts of places. One, in particular, leads to a wild goose chase and a rather difficult battle early in the campaign. Here's our guide on how to find Vostatek for the Lackey quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
Where to find Vostatek in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 - Lackey quest guide
The Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Lackey side quest is actually something that you tackle while you're looking for Henry's long-lost dog, Mutt. As Henry roams around asking townsfolk, he eventually learns that the Troskowitz gamekeeper, Vostatek, might have seen his pet. Since this article solely focuses on Vostatek's whereabouts, you can head over to our Mutt dog companion guide to know more about the preceding and succeeding steps for that key objective.
Note: Before continuing with this side quest, we suggest that you bring a bow or a crossbow, with several arrows and/or bolts. You can find these ranged weapons inside the house of the carpenter in the village of Troskowitz--it's directly across from the tavern. Simply clamber up the log pile at their yard when it's nighttime. Then, sneak and steal from the carpenter family so you can unlock their item chests.
Vostatek's family: Zlata and Vitek
Once you learn from villagers regarding the Troskowitz gamekeeper, make your way to the marked location and chat with his wife, Zlata. She, too, has no clue where her husband is.
However, as long as you're tracking the quest, you should see another marker. This one points to a nearby camp where Vitek, the gamekeeper's son, resides. Vitek isn't on good terms with his dad, but you should be able to convince him to give you a hint.
Vostatek's location
There's a good reason why you should talk to Vitek as part of the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Lackey quest. If you're tracking the quest and you open the world map, you'll realize that there's a gargantuan search area in the forest and Vostatek the gamekeeper could be anywhere. But once you've spoken with Vitek, the search area is narrowed down to a glade just north of the lake.
Vostatek and the wolves
Upon arriving at the location, you'll see Vostatek being hounded by wolves. Note that there are three wolves here, so you need to be ready to block their pounces before you slash or stab with your melee weapon.
After taking care of the creatures, you can pat yourself on the back because you just saved Vostatek in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Oh, what's that? Oh, he fell from the tree, and he injured himself. Well, it looks like you're not done yet. You need to carry him to his hideout.
Vostatek's hints: The tree and the anthill
Vostatek is drunk beyond belief. He doesn't clearly remember where his hideout is, though he does give you a few clues:
- First, head west from where you spotted him until you see a gnarled and dead tree stump. Vostatek will make a remark, which means it's time to head to the next area.
- Continue going west until you see an anthill. Vostatek will make another comment here.
- Vostatek tells you to bring him to the tavern. Don't go back to town. Instead, choose to make an incredulous reply as Henry.
Vostatek's hints: More trees, the cairn, and the hideout
Your travails with Vostatek in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 take you deeper into the forest as you continue to carry him on your back:
- You need to look for a birch tree that's been split in twain.
- Past that point, there's a rock with small stones that are stacked on top of each other--i.e. a cairn.
- Beyond that, there's a dirt path that leads to Vostatek's camp.
Put Vostatek down on one of the mattresses and give him some water from the barrel. He then tells you that he needs his horse, Pipek, to return home. Unfortunately, Pipek, just like his master a few minutes ago, is also nowhere to be found. The poor horse has been taken by bandits.
Pipek and the bandits
You're almost done with the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Lackey quest. Here's what you need to do at this stage:
- Check the marker and continue along the dirt path behind the hideout. Along the way, you should see several things that you could examine, such as ripped cloth, horseshoe tracks, and more.
- When you arrive at the exterior of the bandit camp, an autosave will trigger.
- There's a pretty good chance that you're doing this at a lower level and Henry probably doesn't even have heavy armor on him. So, if you try to fight the five bandits head on, it might not end well.
- To make this encounter a lot easier, we suggest following the sloping path to your right and going up the large rocks at the top of the cliff. Some of these rock formations are steep enough, which means NPCs won't be able to jump to reach you. This is also why we mentioned earlier that you should bring a bow or crossbow for this quest.
- From high up top, shoot one of the bandits to "aggro" the entire bunch:
- Two of these enemies have ranged weapons, so just shoot them from afar.
- The other three only wield melee weapons. They can't even strike Henry who's on top of the rocks, so just chuckle as you shoot them directly in the face.
Once all the bandits are dead, loot their corpses, as well as the containers in this area and the ones in the small cave. The sheer number of items you can gather here might exceed your carry weight, so just keep the ones that are the most valuable. When you're ready, mount up on the black horse, Pipek, and return to Vostatek's hideout.
Lackey rewards
After talking to Vostatek, the two of you could head directly to his home. This concludes the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Lackey quest. For your efforts, you'll receive the following rewards:
- 80x Groschen.
- Permanent lodgings--i.e. a bed that you can sleep in for free so you can heal your character and save your game.
This also leads to additional activities, most especially your continued search for Mutt. Later, you can also encounter Vostatek during the Wedding Crashers quest. One of the optional objectives there involves getting him to stop drinking.
