Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold deals
If you're going to be playing games on your Xbox, chances are you want to get the most out of them, so you'll probably want to subscribe to Xbox Live, Xbox Game Pass, or both through Game Pass Ultimate.
Xbox Live Gold enables online multiplayer and entitles you to regular discounts and monthly rotating free games. Game Pass, meanwhile, is an all-you-can-eat subscription with loads of games included. Game Pass also offers discounts on games in the collection, in case you want to make them a part of your permanent game library. Game Pass Ultimate combines the subscription service for both Xbox and PC, and Xbox Live Gold into one rate. During the sale period, you can pick up 3-month Xbox Live Gold membership for $15 and a Game Pass Ultimate 3-month membership for $25.
Titanfall 2 Ultimate Edition | $4.50
Respawn has had a big year with the release of Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but one criminally underappreciated game is 2016's Titanfall 2. It took the combined foot soldier/mecha combat from the first Titanfall and added a full-fledged, fantastic campaign. Getting the Ultimate Edition for less than 5 bucks is an absolute steal.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Game of the Year Edition | $15
We're about to enter full-blown Witcher fever with the launch of the Netflix series starring Henry Cavill, so now is the perfect time to catch up with the best game in the series. The Witcher 3 was GameSpot's Game of the Year 2015, and this GOTY edition includes all 16 DLC packs. You won't run out of things to do anytime soon.
Dragon Ball FighterZ | $15
Dragon Ball FighterZ is mostly known for its gorgeous animations that imitate the actual animation style of the famous cartoon series to a startling degree. But underneath the pretty exterior is a great fighting game experience in and of itself.
Rage 2 | $20
Rage 2 didn't set the world on fire when it released earlier this year, but sometimes it's just a matter of value. The apocalyptic shooter might be just right at $20 to cause some mayhem, plus it's gotten a steady stream of free updates since launch.
The Division 2 | $15
The Division 2 is an improvement over the first game in just about every way, with smart improvements for fans of the first game who kept it going for years. This is a live game with a long tail, so your $15 investment will provide plenty of bang-bang for your buck.
Mortal Kombat 11 | $30
Mortal Kombat 11 is one of the premiere fighting games around, and it offers a satisfying story conclusion to the rebooted trilogy that NetherRealm began with MK9. The game is still getting new fighters well into next year, so you could get it now and still have new characters to try in 2020.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne | $30
Monster Hunter World set franchise records for a reason: it took all the elements that made Monster Hunter famous and made it a little more approachable. With Iceborne, the game gets further refined, as well as a lot more to do. Hunt snowy monsters and take on a massive campaign in this expansion.
Control | $39
The studio behind Alan Wake brings a similarly eerie and otherworldly single-player adventure. This one brings you into a secretive government agency that keeps a lid on paranormal activities, with an ever-changing layout that's as disarming as it is innovative.
Devil May Cry 5 | $20
Devil May Cry 5 brings the series back to its main numbered roots, as Dante, Nero, and the new character V battle scads of horrific demons. It's a fast-paced action game with style to spare.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice | $39
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a Soulsborne that trades the traditional medieval trappings for ancient Japanese scenarios and weapons. It's no less the challenging game fans have come to expect, though, so you'll probably die a lot more than twice.
Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration | $9
The Tomb Raider reboot series has been critically praised for each release, and it just wrapped up with this year's Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The standout of the series by far has been Rise of the Tomb Raider, so if you missed it at the time make sure you pick it up now on the cheap.
Gears 5 | $30
Gears 5 is a pretty recent release, making this half-off markdown notable in itself. The latest from The Coalition offers a more open-ended Gears experience with character progression, along with the same heavy-hitting multiplayer you've come to know throughout the series.
Borderlands 3 | $40
Borderlands 3 is the first new entry for the zany looter shooter series in years, and it hasn't missed a step. There's still crude jokes, colorful characters, and more guns than you can shake a gun that shoots guns at. It's a recent release, so this cut to a chunk of the price makes it a good time to jump in.
Destiny 2: Shadowkeep | $21
Destiny 2's latest expansion represents a return to the fundamentals of Destiny, as well as laying the groundwork for future expansions and events. You can jump in and start gathering loot and raiding with your friends for just over $20.
The Outer Worlds | $45
The Outer Worlds is another very recent release, putting Obsidian's signature tone and style at work on an outer-space adventure. The RPG is full of humor and colorful characters as you planet-hop in a galaxy controlled by corporations.
Anthem | $12
Anthem may not have been what fans of BioWare expected, but the mech-suited action-RPG is still an impressive technical achievement. For just $12 you can play one of the most beautiful games to come out this year and fly through the environments like Iron Man.
Assassin's Creed Origins | $15
Assassin's Creed Odyssey recently wrapped up its ongoing live content, but Origins set the stage for this new phase of Assassin's Creed. This one takes you to ancient Egypt, with a compelling story campaign and lovely desert vistas.
Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville | $30
The Plants vs Zombies series has already had a pair of team-based shooters, which made Battle for Neighborville a surprise end-of-year release. It's already down to $30, so if you're itching to fire your peapods or shamble like the undead, this is a good chance.
