One of the deepest cuts on the Marvel Rivalslaunch roster, Jeff the Land Shark, is both an adorable Strategist, and an unstoppable killing machine. Jeff, a member of the modern Young Avengers. Is exactly what his name implies, which is a shark with feet that can go on land. In Marvel Rivals, Jeff is a strong healer who can also hold his own against strong damage dealers like Spider-Man and Magik. Plus, he's darn cute, which makes him a popular pick.
Jeff the Land Shark overview
Jeff is focused primarily on healing his teammates using his healing spray and healing bubbles, keeping his teammates alive and healthy. Jeff can also heal himself using the bubbles, or by using his movement ability, which lets him submerge underground, making him harder to hit while also providing self-healing. His Aqua Burst deals pretty good damage, both on direct impact and in a splash area, making Jeff pretty capable of defending himself. Jeff's ultimate ability can result in a full team wipe, so long as there is a ledge nearby--perhaps you've already learned this the hard way.
Jeff abilities and team-ups
Joyful Splash: Unleash a healing stream.
Aqua Burst: Launch a high-speed water sphere that bursts upon impact, dealing damage to enemies within range.
Hide and Seek: Dive into the ground, leaving only your fin exposed. Jeff gets a movement speed boost and self-heals, in addition to gaining the ability to wall-crawl.
Healing Bubble: Spit a bubble that heals an ally when they pick it up, granting a healing and movement speed boost as well. The bubble also knocks nearby enemies away.
It's Jeff! (ultimate): Dive into the ground and emerge in a large area of effect, swallowing both enemies and allies in range. Once swallowed, you get to Hide and Seek for a short period. You can choose to spit out enemies and allies independently, everyone is automatically spit out at the end of the timer. Enemies continuously take damage while swallowed.
Oblivious Cuteness (passive): Reduce damage taken from critical hits.
Frozen Spitball (Luna Snow team-up): Jeff can tap into Luna's ice abilities, temporarily infusing his attacks with ice energy.
New Friends (Groot team-up): Jeff can ride Groot's shoulders, receiving a damage reduction while riding.
Healing beams and bubbles
Jeff is a Strategist in Marvel Rivals, which is a fancy term for support, meaning many of his abilities are focused on healing his teammates. He has two ways to heal teammates, his Joyful Splash beam and Healing Bubbles. The beam functions like a weapon that has to be reloaded, letting you spray teammates with healing water. The beam has pretty good range and heals pretty fast, but you will have to reload fairly often. The Healing Bubbles can be dropped, providing healing and movement speed boosts to teammates.
While you can wait to shoot teammates with the bubbles, you can also place them around an objective for your teammates to pick up whenever they need healing. The only downside with placing the bubbles before your teammates need healing is that they can pick them up even if they are at full health. You get six charges, so you should hold a couple charges for healing teammates or yourself.
A natural predator
While playing Jeff most of your time is going to be spent healing your teammates, but if the opportunity presents itself, you should go on the offensive. Jeff's main offensive attack is his Aqua Splash alternate fire, which works sort of like a grenade launcher might, dealing great damage on direct hit and pretty good splash damage. You can fully knock out a non-tank character before having to reload (assuming they don't get healed) and your movement ability is a great escape tool. Not only does using Hide and Seek make you harder to hit, but it immediately starts providing some healing. It's not fast healing, but it's enough if you need to dive real quick, get some health, and pop back out to deal more damage.
It's Jeff!
It's Jeff, Jeff's ultimate ability, is pretty powerful, especially if there is a ledge nearby. You go into Hide and Seek mode before surfacing to swallow both allies and foes in a large area of effect. You have a short window of time where you stay underground, dealing damage over time to any enemies you have. During this time, you can spit out the enemies or allies, which can be done independently of each other. If there is a ledge in range, you can spit enemies off the ledge, or dive off yourself. If the enemies you have don't have movement abilities, you can just angle down off the ledge and spit them out to their doom.
If they do have movement abilities that could save them, if you take a dive off the ledge, you and everyone you have swallowed will be instantly killed before the enemies even have a chance to recover. If you only get one or two enemies, it's probably a better strategy to hold them as long as possible, while taking them toward your teammates so they can be quickly killed once you spit them out.
