New Switch Games And DLC Surprise-Released After This Week's Nintendo Direct

This week's Nintendo Direct on September 4 showed off several games coming to the Switch in the near future. These included the remaster for Xenoblade Chronicles, Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokemon Sword & Shield, and the release of Overwatch in October, which had leaked a few times but was used to kick off the livestream.

It was an impressive Nintendo Direct, but some of the biggest surprises from the broadcast were the reveals of several games and updates that are available now. Below, you'll find a quick rundown of all the games revealed on Thursday that are out now on the Nintendo Switch Eshop. In addition to the reveal of Deadly Premonition Origins (which is suffering from an audio bug that will be patched), Nintendo also showed off co-op brawler Super Kirby Clash and a port for acclaimed RPG Divinity: Original Sin 2. There was plenty of news on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, too, including things that are out now and coming in the future.

Another big piece of news from the Direct was that SNES games are finally coming to the Switch's Nintendo Online service. While they didn't release right after the Direct like the games outlined below, they did arrive just a day later. A batch of 20 SNES games is out now if you're a Switch Online subscriber, getting you access to Breath of Fire, Star Fox, Super Metroid, Super Mario World, and Super Ghouls & Ghosts, among others. Much like the NES games, you'll be able to use saves and the handy rewind feature, and new online multiplayer functionality is available. Also, Nintendo will release a new SNES wireless controller for the Switch, and more SNES games will be added to the library further down the line.

Out now, Super Kirby Clash is a "free-to-start" action game that lets a group of players control a squad of multi-colored Kirbys. In this co-op driven game, you'll face off against different enemies from Kirby's past with a variety of different weapons and powers. You'll even be able to customize your own version of Kirby with a multitude of different armor sets.

Teased earlier this year, Rare's bashing and platforming duo Banjo-Kazooie have now made their debut in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Shortly after the Nintendo Direct, game director Masahiro Sakurai did a demonstration of the newest character on the roster. As the third fighter in the DLC pack, the bird and bear duo have several moves in their repertoire that are pulled straight from previous games. Owners of the fighter pack will be able to download Banjo-Kazooie today, along with the new stage set on Spiral Mountain. Also, new costumes for the Mii Fighters are available now, including skins from Mystical Ninja Goemon, Mega Man, and Undertale.

In addition to the reveal of Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing In Disguise, the original game from Swery65 will also make its way to the Switch. Now called Deadly Premonition Origins, it's a re-release of the cult-favorite focusing on an oddball detective in a strange town. With the sequel coming sometime in 2020, Deadly Premonition Origins is a great way to experience the game before the sequel's release.

Larian Studio's Divinity 2: Original Sin was a stellar RPG that allowed for an impressive amount of agency in your journey. Originally out for PC, it eventually found its way to PS4 and Xbox One. But now, the massive CRPG game is available now on the Nintendo Switch, allowing players to bring the sprawling adventure with them on-the-go. In one of the most interesting features, the Switch release will also support cross-save with the Steam version of the game.

Nintendo will release another demo for mecha-action game Daemon X Machina. Earlier this year, the publisher released a demo that served a beta. They also invited players afterward to share any feedback from their hands-on online. The new demo will take place later in the game, allowing players to use more weapons and mecha combinations in comparison to the previous demo. Also, it will allow for co-op play with up to four players locally.
