PS4 Slim Compared to PS4 and Xbox One

While the centerpiece of Sony's PlayStation Meeting event was the unveiling of PS4 Pro, there was also the announcement of PS4 Slim. This new console model is smaller and lighter than its predecessor, sporting better energy efficiency and reduced fan volume. PS4 Slim is set to launch in most markets on September 15 for $299/299 Euros/259 GBP. We recently got our hands on a unit and have taken a multitude of pictures to show what it looks like up close compared to other consoles.

Physical Differences from Original PS4:

• PS4 Slim dimensions are 26.5cm x 26.5cm x 3.8cm compared to PS4's 27.5cm x 30cm x 5.3cm.
• Reduction in fan noise, power consumption, and heat.
• PS4 Slim has physical power and eject buttons compared to PS4's touch buttons.
• The PS4 Slim lacks the PS4's light bar.
• The PS4's Optical Out port has been removed from PS4 Slim.
• PS4 Slim has a dedicated panel on the back for switching out hard drives.

Physical Differences from Xbox One S:

• Xbox One S dimensions are 42.9cm x 29.3cm x 11.4cm compared to PS4 Slim's 26.5cm x 26.5cm x 3.8cm.
• Xbox One S has three 3.0 USB ports compared to PS4 Slim's two.
• The highest memory space available for the Xbox One S is 2TB, while the highest memory space available for PS4 Slim is 1TB.
• PS4 Slim can't display 4K video nor does it have a 4K disc drive. Xbox One S sports these features, but only for video and blu-ray (game visuals are upscaled).
• PS4 Slim has a switchable hard drive.

Physical Differences from Xbox One:

• Xbox One dimensions are 43.2cm x 35.7cm x 12.7cm compared to PS4 Slim's 26.5cm x 26.5cm x 3.8cm.
• PS4 Slim has a switchable hard drive.
• Xbox One has three USB 3.0 ports.
