Razer recently sent us its new 14-inch Razer Blade gaming laptop. It’s equipped with an Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU clocked at 3.8GHz, 16GB of DDR4 RAM clocked at 2,400MHz in a dual-channel configuration, and Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1060 outfitted with 6GB of VRAM.
Our configuration came with a 256GB PCIe-based SSD and retails for $1,899.99, but Razer also sells 512GB ($2,099.00) and 1TB ($2,499.99) variants.
We’re going to unbox it and walk you through more tech specs in the following gallery.
The laptop is pretty small and measures 0.7x13.6x9.3 inches. Its uni-body aluminum chassis makes it a bit heavy relative to its size, but it's still light overall at 4.1 pounds.
The box contains some reading material that includes a thank-you card along with some manuals.
The power brick measures 5.9x2.3x0.8 inches, which is pretty small as far as gaming laptop solutions go.
The laptop is very thin at .7 inches, but feels quite sturdy.
The front of the laptop has a lip that allows you to pull open the lid easily.
The notebook supports Intel’s Thunderbolt 3 via a USB-C port. Thunderbolt 3 can transfer files up to 40 Gbp/s.
This is the back of the laptop. Notice that there aren't any ports on the back of the laptop. It actually doesn't have many ports with only three USB 3.0 ports, one USB-C, a headphone jack, and an HDMI out.
The bottom of the laptop exposes two fans.
Our configuration came with a 1080p panel, but Razer will eventually release a model with a 4K touchscreen option.
The trackpad has dedicated left and right click buttons.
The keyboard features RGB backlighting that supports up to 16.8 million colors via Razer’s Chroma lighting software.
The laptop features two speakers on both sides of the keyboard.
This is how far the display can bend back.
The monitor uses an IPS panel that can deliver up to 350 nits of brightness. The display offers accurate, vivid colors with wide viewing angles.
With the quad-core Kaby Lake i7 CPU coupled with Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1060, the laptop is VR ready.
The Razer logo on the back glows when it's turned on.
