You can uncover a few secret areas in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. One, in particular, might be very tricky, since it requires a certain emote that can only be found in a specific location. Here's our guide on how to unlock the northeast region in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. This place is also known as Scaduview.
How to unlock the northeast region in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree - Scaduview region
There are a couple of key requirements if you want to unlock Scaduview or the northeast region in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. The first is that you must obtain the "O Mother" emote. The second is that you must make your way through Shadow Keep via an alternate path.
Requirements to unlock the northeast region - Map
Above, you can see a map that shows the journey you must undertake. We begin, of course, at the Moorth Ruins Site of Grace, which is also where you meet Dryleaf Dane.
From Moorth Ruins to Bonny Village
Head south from the Moorth Ruins waypoint and enter a collapsed building. Look for ledges that allow you to land safely all the way down. There's also a new DLC spell in this small area. Once you've taken care of the enemies, climb up the ladder to reach the well-hidden Bonny Village.
O Mother emote and Bonny Village
Bonny Village is crawling with numerous spectral enemies, as well as three Potentate "invader-type" foes. What you're looking for, however, is the "O Mother" emote. You can find it at the edge of the plateau just north of Bonny Village.
The flooded alternate path in Shadow Keep
From Bonny Village, cross the bridge and follow the road leading north-northeast. Be sure to tag the Church District Highroad Site of Grace, too. Note that the Cathedral of Manus Metyr is nearby if you want to complete the Finger Ruins quest chain.
Anyway, our goal is to continue along the road going to the northwest, which leads to the Church District Entrance Site of Grace. This is the flooded alternate path in Shadow Keep. Traverse the area by way of rooftops until you're back at ground level. In the section where you have to contend with Fire Knights, there's a room with a lift. This will bring you all the way to the Storehouse - Back Section.
As usual, keep making your way to the top of the facility, eventually reaching the Storehouse - Loft. And, again, keep climbing up by way of ladders and lifts.
The goddess statue and the magical emote
Your trek should take you to the Shadow Keep - Back Gate waypoint. Beyond is an open field that has a major boss fight. Instead of heading there, turn right to spot an odd statue which has a Scadutree Fragment. There's also a scribbled message that states: "Have mercy for the spirited away shamans."
All you need to do now is stand in front of the statue, open the menu, and activate the "O Mother" emote. The statue will move and a hidden doorway will be revealed. You've just unlocked the northeastern region in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
What can you expect in Scaduview?
Scaduview, aka. the Hinterlands, has a few points of interest. There's the Shaman Village, where you can obtain a DLC spell and DLC talisman. The hill overlooking the flower fields also has Marika's Rune, which grants 80,000 runes when used. Likewise, the Finger Ruins of Dheo is part of the Finger Ruins quest. There's also a hidden path along the cliffs that nets you a secret spirit ash summon.
