You'll meet several supporting characters in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. They have their own motivations as to why they're following Miquella. One of them, however, is completely devoted to another being. Here's our guide on how to complete the St. Trina and Thiollier quest in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Likewise, please be reminded that this article contains spoilers.
How to complete the St. Trina and Thiollier quest in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
The Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Thiollier and St Trina quest chain involves multiple steps that take you across several DLC regions. As such, make sure you're already familiar with the layout of the world map.
Important: Make sure you complete all the quest steps before you do an important action related to the Belurat Tower of Shadow (major spoilers). This part of the campaign counts as a point of no return.
Initial Thiollier quest objectives
Above, you can see the initial objectives if you want to undertake Thiollier's quest in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. We'll have a chat with Thiollier himself, as well as Moore.
Thiollier's location
To find Thiollier, make your way to the Castle Front Site of Grace and travel south-southeast along the road. Eventually, you'll see a Miquella Cross in the distance. Speak with Thiollier and you'll realize that he's an ardent follower of St. Trina. He also sells some poisons if you need them.
Moore and the Black Syrup
Moore can be found next to the Main Gate Cross just in front of Belurat Tower Settlement. He also sells a few wares. Later, we spoke with Moore after we completed the following tasks:
- We defeated the Dancing Lion in Belurat.
- We defeated Rellana in Castle Ensis.
- Lastly, we approached Shadow Keep's main gate, which also caused Miquella's spell to break.
We returned to the Main Gate Cross and we spoke with Moore. We chose this reply: "Put it behind you." He then gave us the Black Syrup item, and said that Thiollier was looking for it.
Thiollier's Concoction
After obtaining the item from Moore, we spoke with Thiollier. We selected:
- "Give Black Syrup."
- "I'm weary of life."
We then received Thiollier's Concoction, a consumable that causes instant death if imbibed by an ordinary human. Thiollier also sells additional potions for 30,000 runes apiece. More importantly, Thiollier cites that he's leaving his usual spot, as he has to make his way to the southern coast.
Cerulean Coast map
The next step involves heading south to Cerulean Coast. We've got a Cerulean Coast guide to help you with directions.
The Stone Coffin Fissure
Upon arriving at Cerulean Coast, follow the road that leads all the way to the southern tip of the peninsula. There, you'll notice a huge pit. This leads to the Stone Coffin Fissure, an underground dungeon filled with Gravebirds and Stone Worms that shoot lasers.
The endless drop at the pit and the Putrescent Knight
Eventually, you'll reach the Fissure Depths waypoint. A specter there clues you in--i.e. "fly to your feet, my dearest."
Simply put, you need to fall down the chasm. Your character won't die. Instead, you'll find yourself in a large chamber where the Putrescent Knight awaits. This boss has a skeletal mount, though it also does leaping strikes, while sending its mount to barrel into you. Moreover, its attacks can cause frostbite buildup.
Thankfully, you don't need to go at it alone. You can summon Thiollier to help you out. If you have some of the new DLC summons, your comrades should be able to make quick work of this boss. You can learn about the rewards in our boss Remembrances guide.
Meeting with St. Trina - Should you imbibe St. Trina's gift?
Now, it's time for the concluding portions of the St. Trina and Thiollier quest in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Go inside the small cave to find Thiollier, as well as St. Trina. Talk to Thiollier and then interact with St. Trina. There's an option to "imbibe" her gift. If you do this, your character will die but you'll respawn at the nearby Site of Grace. So what are we supposed to do then?
Simple: Choose the "imbibe" option four times (i.e die four times). After the "You Died" notification, the screen will fade to black and St. Trina will start talking to you.
More deaths and Thiollier's jealousy
Here are the next steps:
- Talk to Thiollier. He'll tell you not to repeat your words.
- Imbibe St. Trina's gift and die again (fifth time).
- Speak with Thiollier and repeat St. Trina's words. He becomes irate since St. Trina is talking to you, but she's completely ignoring him.
- Imbibe St. Trina's gift and die again (sixth time).
- The moment you respawn, Thiollier will invade. Defeat him to obtain St. Trina's Smile, a new DLC talisman that boosts your attack whenever the sleep status affects those nearby.
- The seventh time you imbibe St. Trina's gift and perish, her words will become: "You must kill Miquella. Grant him forgiveness." Imbibing again won't lead to new dialogue.
- Although the game states that Thiollier has died, he'll still be inside the cave. Talk to him until you exhaust all new dialogue responses.
The conclusion of the St. Trina and Thiollier quest
The last steps for the St. Trina and Thiollier quest in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree involve the completion of the main arc. Specifically, you need to burn down the Sealing Tree to unlock the Belurat Tower of Shadow (i.e. Enir-Ilim). Bear in mind that this is a point of no return, so make sure you complete other NPC quest lines.
Here's what happens next:
- Just past the Enir-Ilim Cleansing Chamber Anteroom, you'll be challenged by Needle Knight Leda, as well as several other Miquella followers. If you completed Thiollier's quest chain as noted above, you can summon him to assist you in battle.
- Thiollier can also be summoned to help you with the final boss of the DLC.
- Once you defeat the final boss, you'll see a glowing item in the arena. Grab it to receive Thiollier's full armor set, as well as the Thiollier's Hidden Needle weapon.
- After beating the final boss, return to St. Trina's cave. There, you'll be able to pick up the St. Trina's Blossom. Your character will wear a purple flower in their hair, and it counts as an armor piece for your head.
That does it for our guide on how to complete the St. Trina and Thiollier quest in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Don't forget to tackle the objectives given by other characters, such as Needle Knight Leda and Ymir/Finger Ruins.
