Silent Hill 2 Remake is pretty faithful to the original, but it adds a few new things of its own, too. The most major are the two new endings, but you can also find new puzzles in the game, and a bunch of new collectibles. Among those collectibles are the Strange Photos, a group of 26 Polaroid photos to find that seem to hint at elements of James' and Mary's past. The photos are scattered all throughout Silent Hill and are easy to miss, but gathering them all can potentially give you more insight into the story, while also earning you the Pieces Unarranged Trophy/Achievement.
Here's where to find every Strange Photo hidden in Silent Hill 2, in the order you would come across them as you work through the game. Note: This means you'll find all 26 photos out of order when it comes to the number shown on each one. For example, the first you find is number six. Don't worry; that doesn't mean you've already missed five of them.
6. I've Been Happy
In the first area of Silent Hill you reach, east side of South Vale, you can use your melee weapon to break the glass out of car windows and storefronts to find hidden items. The photo is in the storefront window across from Neely's Bar on Neely Street.
1. So Many People Here!
While you're still wandering around the first area of Silent Hill, look on the left side of the entrance of Wood Side Apartments on Katz Street.
4. Valentine's Day
Once you're in Wood Side Apartments, you can find this photo in Apartment 102 on a cart near the back wall.
7. Career's Humble Beginnings
Check the corner of Wood Side Apartments 210 to snag this photo.
16. Forever Together
After stepping across from Wood Side Apartments into Blue Creek Apartments, make your way through the building until you find a concrete staircase. At the bottom, go around the side of the stairs, where a mannequin will attack you, to grab the photo from the ground.
11. How The Time Flies
As you work your way through Blue Creek Apartments, you'll unlock more and more of the building as you add hands to the grandfather clock in Apartment 212. After adding two hands, a small side room will open in 212, revealing the photo.
14. So Far From Home
When you enter Rosewater Park, make sure to check out the whole area before heading through the gate toward the lake's edge. You'll find this photo on a concrete bench, in an alcove on the west side.
12. Ready to Kill It!
It's tough to miss this photo, which is hanging on the mirror in the Heaven's Night dressing room to the left as you enter.
5. Church Entrance
After the cutscene with Maria in Moonlight Grove, before you leave, head to the left and check on the edge of the fountain. Make sure to grab this one before entering the theater.
8. Best Flavour!
Inside the theater, check the chair behind Eddie after your conversation. This photo one is lying on its arm.
9. Her Drawings
After the scene at the theater, you'll follow Laura to Brookhaven Hospital. When you make your way up to the second floor, this photo is in the Observation Room. Head to the back of the room, near the radio that turns on by itself, and check the desk against the wall.
18. At Least She Was There
This photo is in a drawer in Examination Room 1, located on the first floor of Brookhaven Hospital.
2. No One Knows
When you find Laura on the third floor, you'll see a cutscene and then find yourself in the rusty Otherworld version of the hospital. Look in the drawer of the bedside table of the Observation Room on the second floor, the one with the pill bottles all over it.
10. They're Here
Leaving Brookhaven Hospital, puts you out on the Silent Hill streets, but in the Otherworld version of the town. When you get to Katz Street, grab this photo by breaking the window of the car parked in front of Lucky Jade Restaurant.
20. Made It!
You can get this photo either after leaving Brookhaven, or earlier when you're with Maria, before you cut through Jack's Inn. Make your way down Nathan Avenue. There's a garage right next to Rosewater Park that has a jack under its door, but you're missing a piece to open it. Head all the way down Nathan Avenue toward the Silent Hill Historical Society, to Octanis Fuels. Behind the gas station's store is a car with a jack under it. Take the handle from the jack and go back to the garage to open it. Inside the garage, against the far wall, is the photo.
17. The New Clock
When you enter the Silent Hill Historical Society, you'll pass a bunch of a glass cases. Check around the corner of the cases to your left to find a closed door and a case beside it. Smash through the glass to get to the photo.
15. Four Months To Go
After the Historical Society, you'll find yourself in the Toluca Lake Prison. Use the weight puzzle to unlock the Headless Serpent door and enter the Death Row section. After you overload the generator to unlock all the doors, check inside cell E13 to get the photo.
23. Old Man's Always Prepared
Advance through the prison until you unlock the Boar section with the weight puzzle. Head into the area and make your way to the warehouse, then look for photo near the typewriter.
19. Whole World Ahead Of Us
Descending into the Labyrinth, you'll rotate a cube with faces on it to create paths to explore the maze. As you explore the Desolate Area of the Labyrinth, look for the ladder marked VI on your map. The photo is at the top of the ladder in the connected room.
3. Your Best Buddy!
As you spin the Labyrinth cube, you should notice small symbols written on the faces. After completing the Rotten and Desolate areas, spin the cube until you get a face that has no symbols on it. That'll connect the path to let you into the larger cube; head in and take the stairs down, then look on the floor near a window and you should see the photo lying on the ground.
24. Road Trip!
Look for this photo right after your encounter with Eddie in the slaughterhouse. As you go outside, you'll find yourself on the pier leading to a rowboat you can take to Lakeview Hotel. Instead, go around to the right, following the concrete porch until you hit a dead end. Check to the left of the stairs here to find the photo.
21. Aftermath...
Like the other buildings you've entered, you need to explore most of the rooms in Lakeview Hotel to solve the puzzles and get the keys necessary to continue forward. The photo is on the bed in Room 104.
25. Better Leave
Late in your exploration of Lakeview Hotel, an elevator will take you to the basement, but require you to leave behind your weapons. The path through will put you in the Venus Tears Bar. Look behind the bar, in the corner by the wall. The photo is on the shelf with the alcohol.
22. Still Can't Get It Right
Once you've entered the Otherworld version of the Lakeview Hotel, make your way into Room 302. Grab the photo at the back of the room, near the brick wall.
26. Shape Forces The Mind
The final photo is on the metallic scaffold after you open the door using the Rust Egg and the Scarlet Egg. Go around to the right and grab the photo from the ground; you need to get it before you head up the stairs to the final boss fight.
