All Health Filament Upgrade Locations In South Of Midnight

Are you looking for all the Health Filaments in South of Midnight? These green glowing crystals are scattered in various levels and some are quite hard to find. Still, if you can manage to collect enough of them, you'd be able to increase Hazel's HP.

Where to find all Health Filaments in South of Midnight - Health upgrades guide

There are a total of nine Health Filaments in the game. Every three that you obtain increases Hazel's health bar by a segment. Obtaining all of these also nets you the "Fit as a Fiddle" achievement.

Note: Health Filaments can be found in chapters 3 to 7 and chapters 9 to 12. We have a full South of Midnight chapters list, if you're curious. If you miss any of them the first time that you're going through a level, then you can go back to the main menu and select Load Game -> Replay Chapters. However, you'd have to restart the entire chapter from the very beginning.

The first South of Midnight Health Filament that you obtain shouldn't pose any problems at all. In fact, as you're making your way through Chapter 3, you will necessarily stumble upon this upgrade in the story.

To get this crystal, you need to make your way to the church. Then, at the church's yard, walk to the right-hand side by the cliffs. You should see grapple points that take you to an island in the middle of the lake.

Look beyond these and you'll notice even more grapple points. Use these to reach the hidden cave with the crystal.

For this South of Midnight Health Filament, you must proceed further into the level until you get the second memory flashback about Two-Toed Tom. Past this point, you should see grapple points that lead to a flower field with a water tank. Grapple onto these objects and use Hazel's weave to solidify the cart and shed. These will allow you to jump to the top of the water tank.

As you venture deeper into this level, you'll come across a barn with an Old Smokey sign. The Health Filament is on the upper landing. To reach it, go back outside and look for a side path with a spectral cart. Turn it solid and use it to clamber onto the rooftop.

You can find this health upgrade by proceeding normally through the level. After a combat encounter, you should see a small cave off to the side. Destroy the obstacle with your Strand Push ability and pick up your reward.

Getting this particular Health Filament in South of Midnight might take a while. Basically, you need to clear all stigma knot encounters to learn about Itchy's past. Doing so lets you advance further to the manor at the top of the hill.

Upon reaching the manor gate, hang a left and look at the edge of the cliff. You'll notice several ledges that you can grab. Shimmy along the cliff until you reach the crystal on the far ledge.

Hazel loses her Spindle abilities at the start of this chapter, so you need to be careful when dealing with enemies. Eventually, though, you'll reacquire her Spindle with the help of her puppet Crouton.

After regaining access to the last Spindle ability, cross the bridge and hop on the island in the middle of the pond. You should see the crystal across the body of water. Use your powers to throw a stone at the exploding mushrooms, then grapple to cross the gap.

There are portions of this level where you need to sprint past and avoid the rocks being thrown by Altamaha-ha, a nereid-like swamp creature. After the first sequence where Altamaha-ha attacks, you'll have a stigma encounter and learn about the past. The cutscene should mention something along the lines of: "Ayotunde plunged into the unknown for the sake of her baby."

Shortly thereafter, you'll find yourself at a glade where the side path has a large winding branch that leads further upward. Follow this path all the way to the top and cross using the spectral ledges to obtain your reward.

The last South of Midnight Health Filament can be found in Chapter 12, a realm that's akin to New Orleans, except the parts of the city are floating above a dark expanse. Continue onward until you reach the main thoroughfare.

If you look to the right, you'll see a ruined overpass. Use your grapple ability and ride the wind current to reach the crystal.

These are all the Health Filaments in South of Midnight. Don't forget that you'll also receive the "Fit as a Fiddle" achievement once you've picked up all these upgrades. Of course, this also means Hazel's survivability in battles will be vastly improved.
