Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Trailer Breakdown - What We Learned

The first teaser trailer for the next Star Wars movie, which we now know is called Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, has arrived and we couldn't be more excited. The title, trailer, and new information about the movie's plot and time jump were announced at the annual Star Wars Celebration convention, giving fans plenty to talk about.

While only a teaser, the first look at the film runs two minutes long and is jam-packed with new insight into the final chapter of the Skywalker saga, and our first looks at a variety of characters we haven't seen since the final moments of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

With so much to sift through and far too many very quick cuts, GameSpot has gone through the new trailer frame-by-frame to pull out anything and everything you'll need to know about it. The first image of Rey since The Last Jedi shows her in the desert with her trusty lightsaber. She's not alone, though.

In the distance, a First Order TIE Silencer is barreling towards her. Is it attacking?

Though it was seemingly destroyed in The Last Jedi, Daisy Ridley confirmed Luke Skywalker's lightsaber still exists and she can be seen wielding it here as the Silencer races toward her. In a nice nod to the past, she's also carrying Han Solo's blaster.

Something about the way Rey is preparing for the TIE Silencer's arrival makes this look more like training than her actually being attacked. With her heavy breathing, this could very well be an exercise she's repeating many times. If that's the case, though, who is behind the wheel? The gloved hands on the controls could certainly belong to Kylo Ren, but the pair didn't exactly leave things on the best terms.

Luke Skywalker definitely didn't do backflips over TIE fighters in his day. Is Rey the most powerful Force-powered being the galaxy has ever seen? Time will tell.

It's not clear where they are or who is piloting this ship, but it looks like another new planet will be visited in The Rise of Skywalker, which shouldn't come as much of a surprise. That said, we want to know more about this planet.

The first shot of Kylo Ren in the trailer, appropriately, shows him killing people while carrying out an attack with his Stormtroopers. Who is he cutting down with his lightsaber, though? Where is this attack being carried out?

After smashing his helmet in frustration during The Last Jedi, cooler evil heads have prevailed and we see Kylo reassembling his headwear. At least Snoke won't be able to mock it in this movie, because he's very dead.

The boys are back in town! The Rise of Skywalker will see all of our heroes on a mission together, and this is the first hint of that. Based on this brief glimpse, they could easily be on the same planet as Rey is at the beginning of the teaser.

In The Rise of Skywalker, BB-8 gets a new droid friend. It was announced during the movie's panel that the little wheelie droid is named Dio.

Our reintroduction to Lando Calrissian comes with him piloting the Millennium Falcon, with Chewbacca at his side. Hopefully, these two old friends get the chance to mourn the late Han Solo together.

Seeing Lando back in his old ship and having such a good time should make any Star Wars fan feel good.

How do you make Stormtroopers cooler? Give them the ability to fly, obviously. In a super quick shot, we see Stormtroopers with jetpacks strapped to their backs, which should make for quite the challenge for Rey and the rest of the crew.

How do the good guys do battle with jetpack Stormtroopers? Naturally, they look to be piloting a broken-down vehicle that looks as unreliable as it does old.

It's hard to know where in the movie this--or anything else in this teaser--happens, but an A-Wing getting shot down is bad news for the Resistance.

We briefly see the Medal of Bravery in Leia's hands. For those that don't remember, it was awarded to both Luke and Han in Star Wars: A New Hope.

Though Carrie Fisher died before filming of The Rise of Skywalker began, thanks to unused footage from The Force Awakens, her story will be completed in the new film. In a brief shot from the trailer, she's seen hugging Rey in a touching moment.

This will almost certainly be a very emotional scene for fans viewing the film, as they say goodbye to Leia Organa for the final time.

Lastly, we get a shot of the assembled team. Rey is flanked by Poe, Finn, Chewbacca, C-3PO, BB-8, and newcomer Dio. Where's R2-D2, though?

And on their journey, what they've come across what appears to be Death Star 2 wreckage. While we don't know for sure what planet this moment takes place on, we're going to guess it might be near Endor. And if that is the case, keep your fingers crossed for an Ewok sighting.

The last voice we hear in the trailer is the cackle of none other than Emperor Palpatine, which comes quickly after Luke's finale line of, "No one's ever really gone." But how is that possible? Is he alive? Is this a clone? A Force ghost situation? We won't find out until December. However...

The official title of the film is Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and it's in theaters on December 20.
