The New Droid: K-2S0
Actor Alan Tudyk can be seen in a mo-cap suit for K-2S0, the droid character he's playing in the film. He can also be seen jumping forward during an action scene on the beach. K-2S0 is the companion and good friend of Captain Cassian Andor. According to Tudyk, K-2S0 "speaks his mind and says things that can be unsettling; [he's] just very honest. If you know any old people, it's like that; he says whatever he thinks."
A Mon Calamari Appears
A Mon Calamari--the alien species of Admiral Ackbar--can be seen amongst the production crew and cast. In what’s known as “Legend Canon,” the Mon Calamari are from the planet Dac, which was invaded by the empire, and nearly destroyed. The alien race was subsequently enslaved by the empire, which may have already happened, or is currently happening in Rogue One. The Mon-Calamari played an integral role in developing space cruisers for the Rebellion.
Arresting Andor
Captain Cassian Andor--Diego Luna’s character--can be seen taken hostage by a Stormtrooper during the town ambush from the first Rogue One trailer.
Davis Returns
Star Wars veteran actor Warwick Davis is returning to play a new character in Rogue One. He made his series debut in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi as the Ewok Wicket Wystri Warrick, but has since appeared in a handful of later films, such as The Phantom Menace and The Force Awakens. It's currently unclear what character he'll be playing.
Death Star Droid
Hardcore Star Wars fans are likely to recognize the RA-7 Protocol droid, which can be seen briefly amongst the early shots of the celebration reel. This droid model first appeared in Star Wars: A New Hope in the Death Star; they're typically put in service to Imperial Officers.
Young Jyn Orso
A shot that stood out to us in particular was the one above: is this Jyn Erso as a child? If so, it's possible that this could mean that the film could have a flashback. We're thinking it'll depict Jyn's father Galen Erso (played by Mads Mikkelsen) being killed or captured by the Empire, thus inspiring her “rebellious” attitude.
Death Star Blueprints?
This shot looks to be from the very same AT-AT beach sprint scene from the first Rogue One trailer. However, we now have a better look at what Jyn is carrying; could it be the Death Star blueprints on an oversized storage device?
X-Wing vs. AT-AT
It's worth noting the moment a crewmember provides directions to the actors during an action sequence on the beach. He yells what sounds like: “X-Wing, X-Wing! Kills the AT-AT down there. BANG!" This could allude to a scene where an X-Wing swoops in and attacks the AT-AT’s during the beach sprint scene. While we're not completely certain this is what the crewmember says, seeing as the latter part of his words were slightly indiscernible, the implication of the scene remains: an X-Wing is going to destroy an AT-AT.
Doom and Gloom
This brief shot of a Death Squad Stormtrooper doesn't show much in terms of story, however, the composition and lighting reinforces Rogue One's grittier narrative tone. The Stormtrooper unit type can be seen prominently throughout the celebration reel, marching menacingly in small groups to and fro.
Only Saw Gerrera Once
Above is the only shot where we see Forest Whitaker’s character, Saw Gerrera. He's portrayed as a mentor figure to Jyn Erso and represents the more extremist side of the Rebel Alliance in the film.
Rebel Landing Craft
There are a handful of shots featuring what appears to be a Rebel landing craft. It seems like this could be the landing craft that Jyn Orso and her allies took to reach the battle on the tropical planet seen in the first trailer. In addition, we see a squad of Death Squad Stormtroopers investigating the crash site of what could be the same landing craft.
X-Wing Battles Incoming
It should come as no surprise that Rogue One is going to feature more X-Wing battles; the above picture features an unnamed pilot we'll be seeing the film. Notice the difference in color of his pilot's outfit from the traditional orange we're used to seeing from pilots in the original Star Wars trilogy.
Infiltration
The final shot of the first Rogue One trailer revealed that the film will have a scene where Jyn Erso disguises herself as a Stormtrooper pilot, most likely to infiltrate an Imperial outpost (or the Death Star). The celebration reel confirmed she won't be alone in this mission; Captain Andor will be assisting her disguised as an Imperial officer.
Someone on Staff Loves Destiny
The only thing revealed from the face montage at the end of the celebration reel is that Rogue One’s costume department has what appears to be a huge Destiny fan.
