The original Star Wars trilogy introduced generations of fans to the cruel and unstoppable force known as The Empire. This group gave us characters we know and love/hate like The Emperor, Darth Vader, and the military with terrible aim, Stormtroopers. However, this galactic force also gave us some iconic ships as well, including a few being introduced in the upcoming Rogue One film. Here are some of the coolest vessels and vehicles The Empire has to offer.
Death Star
Technically, it's a space station, not a ship, but there is nothing more impressive than the Death Star. How could we not mention it? This object has a weapon capable of destroying planets. Luckily, there's an exhaust port you can fire missiles into to destroy it all.
Imperial II-Class Star Destroyer
The first time we saw this mammoth Star Destroyer was in Empire Strikes Back. It comes in at 1.6 kilometers long.
Executor
Even bigger than the Imperial II is Executor, which is 19 kilometers long. This ship was under the command of Kendal Ozzel and Firmus Piett who took orders only from Darth Vader.
Delta-Class T-3c Shuttle
This new ship from Rogue One is Director Orson Krennic's Imperial shuttle. We only caught a quick glimpse of it in the trailers.
Lambda-Class T-4a Shuttle
This shuttle is most noted in the original trilogy for transporting important members of The Empire, like Darth Vader and The Emperor, along with his Royal Guard.
TIE/LN Starfighter
TIE Fighters are the flies of the Star Wars universe. It's The Empire's primary, short-ranged fighter that makes a really cool noise.
TIE Advanced x1
The TIE Advanced x1 is the Rolls Royce of TIE Fighters. This is an advanced prototype that Darth Vader flew himself.
TIE/sa Bomber
This version of the TIE fighter was a bomber that was used to eliminate enemies on the ground.
TIE/IN Interceptor
The coolest looking TIE Fighter from the original trilogy has to be the Interceptor. While it lacks the shield power and hyperspace capabilities of the TIE/LN, it makes up for it in speed and four laser cannons. This starfighter was most notably used during the Battle of Endor.
TIE Striker
The TIE Striker will make its first cinematic appearance in Rogue One. It is designed for in-atmosphere combat and is faster than the TIE Fighter.
AT-AT
The All-Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT) or the Imperial Walker is best known for its appearance at the Battle of Hoth in Empire Strikes Back.
AT-ST
The All-Terrain Scout Transport (AT-ST) is a smaller and more mobile version of the AT-AT. Fans will remember its appearance from Return of the Jedi during the Battle of Endor. In addition, they were also present at the Battle of Hoth.
AT-ACT
The All-Terrain Armored Cargo Transport is a new vehicle for Rogue One. It is larger than the AT-AT and used to transport materials for Imperial construction projects.
Imperial Assault Hovertank
Finally, the Imperial Assault Hovertank is a new vehicle for Rogue One which needs a commander and several pilots to operate. It is highly maneuverable in tight quarters, making it a menacing force in city streets.
