BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle is a fighting game that actually encompasses characters seen in anime series based off of games (BlazBlue: Alter Memory and Persona 4: The Animation) and anime (RWBY). Cross Tag Battle is fairly easy to pick up, and includes one stellar soundtrack.

The anime version of Clannad is hugely popular, mostly for being a fairly accessible entry point into understanding the tropes of both romantic comedy and harem series. The story revolves around Tomoya, a labeled delinquent and troublemaker, whose influence affects the lives of six girls: shy Nagisa, twins Kyou and Ryuo, genius Kotomi, athletic Tomoyo, and eccentric Fuko.

Clannad also owes its success to the popularity of its source material: a visual novel game of the same name. Clannad HD is simply a better version with updated visuals. When the visual novel game first came out, it was praised for being one of the best in the genre, thanks to its incredibly detailed story and easy-to-love characters.

Before it was a deeply disturbing, horror anime, Corpse Party was a terrifying survival horror adventure game. The story follows a group of high school students who (stupidly) perform an ancient ritual they don't fully understand, plunging them into a haunted middle school in an alternate dimension that's full of ghosts. Depending on your choices, some of the students will meet terribly gruesome fates.

In GameSpot's Corpse Party review, Marko Djordjevic wrote, "It's not a difficult game by any means, instead relying on keeping you interested through its gripping story, unexpected twists, and horrific situations. If you crave something that will keep you up at night, this is it."

If you like high school, bears, and murder, the Danganronpa trilogy is for you. Part visual novel, part point-and-click detective game, part bad minigame collection, Danganronpa puts you in the middle of a Killing School game where the only way to win is to get away with murder. As your classmates get murdered one by one, you need to help identify the killers--and possibly the mastermind behind the game. And then it gets weirder.

Danganronpa begs to be played as a trilogy. The games are long, the minigames at the Class Trials are wonky at best, and there's some regular anime weirdness on top of the murder weirdness. But if you love Danganronpa 1, see it through to the end. You absolutely won't be disappointed.

Dragon Ball has become almost synonymous with the word "anime" as Dragon Ball Z remains one of the most famous and beloved series in the medium. And no game has quite managed to capture the thrilling escalation of DBZ's battles quite like the 2018 fighting game Dragon Ball FighterZ. At 75% off, this is the perfect opportunity for Dragon Ball Z fans to see their favorite characters battle it out.

That said, Forgotton Anne is one of the closest examples I've seen of an anime brought to life as a video game, featuring gorgeously drawn cutscenes and a well-orchestrated soundtrack that evoke the same sense of style as Studio Ghibli's films.

The game itself is one of the best I've played, telling the story of a teenage girl forced into the role of Enforcer in a land populated by the discarded items and people of our world. Tasked with stopping a violent rebellion by any means necessary, you must question, lie, threaten, and murder your way to the truth. Your actions define the story's outcome, reinforcing the consequence of your decisions in heart-wrenching ways. At 50% off, you shouldn't let this hidden gem pass you by.

You wouldn't be blamed for thinking The Fruit of Grisaia is just another harem rom-com that sexualizes its female cast, as the first 22 minutes of its opening 23-minute episode suggests that is the case. But fans who've gone further know the anime takes a rather drastic turn, dropping the panty shots to instead tell a series of stories that intelligently handle suicide, depression, free will, self-esteem, domestic abuse, sexual assualt, survivor's guilt, and a whole lot more.

It's a lot to take in, but the anime and its follow-up seasons have earned a fierce following for its storytelling. That first season is based off of the visual novel The Fruit of Grisaia, which is being offered at 60% off during the Steam Summer Sale. With the money you save, you can continue the journey in the game's two sequels: The Labyrinth of Grisaia and The Eden of Grisaia.

Jump Force is a celebration of Shonen Jump's 50 years of manga, and all of the series referenced in the game have been turned into an anime. Little Witch Academia follows the efforts of Akko, an energetic girl with no magic talent but who wants to be a witch. She's ultimately accepted to a prestige witch school where she struggles to learn magic until she becomes the new wielder of the Shiny Rod--whose previous owner was one of the world's most famous witches.

Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time is a continuation of the anime, taking place during the summer vacation following Akko's first year at school. Though certain parts of the game falter, the game's story is carried through the combined efforts of the characters, who are all just as personable as they are in the anime.

My Hero Academia is one of the most popular anime series in the world, captivating the minds of fans with its fleshed-out cast, well-animated action scenes, and message that anyone can be a hero. Though it suffers in trying to capture how special the story of its source material is, My Hero One's Justice is a load of fun for anyone looking to go a few rounds in the superhero ring.

The Ultimate Ninja Storm series set the bar for the 3D arena-style fighting games by fusing both fast and fluid combat with the stylish sensibilities of its source material. Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 is the latest in the series, which you can swoop it up for 50% off during the Steam Summer sale. You'll fight as your favorite ninja online or through the story mode that retells a significant, high-stakes arc in the Naruto saga.

Narratively, Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 takes place in the middle of the Fourth Shinobi War as Naruto reveals the true identity of the Akatsuki leader. It then closes up the Shippuden storyline, and by doing so, incorporates so many important characters from the manga and anime as playable fighters. You won't find a whole lot of depth in the fight system, but it's easy to pick up and plays smoothly with the visual flair you'd expect from the anime.

The Ni no Kuni anime has little to do with either game, but it does exist and that makes Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom an anime game. Plus, Studio Ghibli co-produced the first game in the series. This action RPG sees you take on the role of a king in a fantasy land of magic, tasking you with using diplomacy, battle, and management to grow your kingdom into a prosperous nation.

In GameSpot's Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom review, Peter Brown wrote, "It's chock full of excellent battles and surprising moments that make for a far more memorable experience than you initially expect and leaves you impressed by your own accomplishments. One Piece is one of the most popular anime series on earth, telling the tale of the Straw Hat Pirates and their stretchy super-powered captain Luffy, whose goal is to become the Pirate King. While the original manga is nearing its 1000th chapter, Unlimited World Red tells a side story written by creator Eichiro Oda himself. The Deluxe Edition includes more than 50 DLC packs added to the game since its 2014 launch.

In the One Piece: Unlimited World Red Deluxe Edition trailer, you can get a glimpse of some of those extra goodies, including new costumes and additional quests. Of course, this wouldn't be an anime game without the ability to duke it out against other characters, and the Battle Coliseum lets you do exactly that. If you've never played Capccom's cult classic Phoenix Wright series, then please do! This collection of visual novel courtroom dramas is marked down a smidge for the Steam sale, which makes it the perfect time to jump on. You play as Phoenix Wright, a greenhorn defense attorney with a heart of gold often tasked with defending clients accused of crimes they didn't commit. The series' premise alone is probably one of the most unique in games, which is to say nothing of its memorable characters and excellent melodramatic storytelling. The Phoenix Wright trilogy comes highly recommended to those who love gripping over-the-top legal drama and enjoy testing their intellect on logic-based puzzles.

Psycho-Pass is such a good anime, taking place in a world where everyone's emotional and mental state is constantly monitored and even showing a hint of a criminal feeling or thought will land you in therapy or jail. Those too dangerous are shot on sight, while those who simply display an affinity for criminal behavior are recruited by the police to help hunt those who think like them.

A visual novel, Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness tells a side-story that occurs alongside the events of the first season of the anime. The dystopian future of Psycho-Pass fits right at home in a novel format, and though main characters Nadeshiko and Takuma don't share the same chemistry as the anime's Akane and Shinya, both are compelling in their own right.
