The third installment of the Star Trek reboot will be coming to theaters, nationwide, on July 22nd. The Enterprise crew is up against a brand new foe from uncharted sections of space. Currently, two trailers have been released, so we're skimming through the first and second trailer and figuring out what to expect from Star Trek: Beyond.
A Threat of Unimaginable Force
The Enterprise crew heads out to explore the uncharted parts of space. They come up against a fleet of single-maned ships that can penetrate the Enterprise. The ships looks more like a swarm of insects as they tear through the hull.
The Enterprise is Boarded
At some point, either during or prior to the swarm attack, the Enterprise is boarded by a new alien threat. They quickly take out a few "red shirts" on the ship. This is easily the most imposing threat they have ever come up against, as the soldiers from this alien force are just as overwhelming as their fleet of ships.
Enterprise is Destroyed
These small ships are so powerful that they completely disable the Enterprise. The ship appears to be helpless against this new threat, as it tears through every part of the ship with ease. Maybe the threat that boarded the ship found a way to disable the shields.
A Few Crew Members Escape
Some members of the Enterprise make it to the escape pods and end up landing on an alien planet that the ship is orbiting. Not all of them are that lucky, as Sulu's pod gets hit by an alien ship. However, in later scenes, some members of the crew are seen on this alien planet, trying to survive.
The Enterprise Crash Lands
During one scene, Kirk is sliding down a piece of metal and firing his gun at someone. In another shot, it appears he's sliding down the Enterprise, which has crash-landed on the planet. Some of the crew went down with the ship and survived.
Starfleet is Held Captive
Assuming that the quick glimpse we see of Starfleet members is taking place on the alien planet, members of the Enterprise have been taken captive by this threat. Members of Starfleet are without a ship and apparently without their captain.
A New Villain
Idris Elba plays Krall, the leader of the group that takes down the Enterprise. We see a scene where Krall is talking to Uhura and she says, "Our captain will come for us. Mercy will be the last thing on his mind." Maybe Krall makes the point that Kirk abandoned them, and that was Uhura's response. Krall seems ruthless, intelligent, and an excellent strategist.
A New Ally
Sofia Boutella plays Jaylah, a new ally to the crew of the Enterprise. It's possible she lives on the planet where the Enterprise crashes as the first time we see her, in the trailer, she's fighting Krall's soldiers. Jaylah is one tough ally and can hold her own in a fight. She also has no problem sitting in Captain Kirk's chair, right in front of him.
A New Ship?
Towards the end of the trailer, we see a ship that isn't the Enterprise flying through space, blasting at Krall's ships. We can assume that members of the Enterprise crew found a ship on the planet and fixed it up to make a voyage home.
Earth is Under Attack
We quickly see Krall's ships on what looks like to be Earth. Either his army found Earth or followed an escape ship home. So now Krall is a threat in two different places.
Spock & Uhura Still Going Strong
On the relationship side of things, Spock and Uhura share a kiss, most likely towards the beginning of the film. Their relationship seems to be intact. Hopefully, it can survive this adventure.
