What's Happening In WandaVision: Agatha, Mephisto, Clues, And More

Surprise! WandaVision Episode 7 let us know exactly who has been behind the hijinks in Westview thanks to a very catchy musical number--but there are still plenty of mysteries to be investigated in the show at large. We may know that it was "Agatha all along" but we still don't know why or to what end our favorite nosy neighbor has been pulling the strings.

This might be bad news for everyone in Westview but especially for Wanda and Vision's twin sons, who are now apparently missing before Agatha made her big reveal.

And then there's everything happening over at SWORD--or what's left of SWORD after Wanda expanded the boundaries of the HEX, and their apparently mission to either rebuild Vision or create something with his corpse, Monica and her newly acquired superpowers, and the issue of getting everyone out of the HEX in one piece.

Needless to say, with only two episodes left, WandaVision still has a lot of ground to cover. Take a look at everything we know about the show so far, from clues to details that still need some explanation.

Right off the bat, WandaVision's core mystery is obvious: Neither of our heroes knows what they're doing in Westview or even how they got there. They're not sure when they got married or what they do for a living, and they don't seem to be aware that they're hopscotching through decades of American pop culture.

We see in Episode 2 that Wanda is able to "rewind" time in Westville and undo things she doesn't want to see or experience, like when the beekeeper crawls out of the sewer and she simply says "no" to make him disappear.

UPDATE: As of Episode 5, we now know that Wanda has an extreme amount of control over Westview's reality and can even leave the bubble at will--but she doesn't seem to be the only one.

Wanda is experiencing intrusions on Westview's reality that seem to indicate that someone is trying to contact her--probably to rescue her. The unnamed voice asked, in Episode 2, who was "doing this" to her.

UPDATE: We now know that the voice on the radio was Jimmy Woo and SWORD had originally been operating under the theory that Wanda needed to be rescued.

Hints of SWORD's involvement have been everywhere in the show so far, but Episode 3 confirmed that Monica is an agent--and that she had some ulterior motive for being in Westview. Wanda was threatened by this for some reason and promptly "ejected" her, for lack of a better word, out of Westview and into what certainly looks like the real world.

Judging by Monica's expulsion from the town, it seems like Westview is actually somehow located in the regular world, and is possibly cloaked or blocked off by magic. It seems that SWORD has surrounded the location with a sort of militarized perimeter. This may mean that Westview is in fact not an alternate Earth or alternate dimension, but is actually a high tech version of The Truman Show--or some sort of extremely quaint looking prison.

Agnes seemed very aware that Monica wasn't a person who actually "belonged" in the community--but never directly explained why or how she knew. It seems like she might have some secret knowledge about Westview's population that, at best, lets her know who SWORD is sending in, or at worst, may let her manipulate who's there in the first place.

UPDATE: As of Episode 7, we know that Agnes is definitely in on it.

There have been an awful lot of HYDRA-related flashbacks and call outs that may or may not be related to Westview as a whole. Depending on how deeply Wanda's psyche is informing Westview's status quo, the HYDRA nods could just be projections--both Wanda and Pietro were experimented on by HYDRA in Age of Ultron, after all--or they could be peeks behind the curtain. Maybe the whole of Westview is a HYDRA gambit to bring Wanda back into the fold.

Episode 3 introduced Wanda and Vision's kids, William and Thomas, who have their own monumentally confusing comic book histories. The question is now that they exist in the show, will they actually exist in the MCU going forward, or are they just products of whatever force is creating Westview as a whole?

SWORD, which in the MCU stands for Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division, was "built from the ground up" by the late Maria Rambeau, Carol Danvers' best friend on Earth, presumably some time after Maria was introduced to the Kree/Skrull conflict with Carol in the '90s. Maria has since passed away, but her daughter Monica is an agent.

SWORD agents are investigating Westview and attempting to figure out what's happening inside the town's energy field--they did not cause it and are not trying to keep Wanda or Vision imprisoned within, despite the fact that they're two Avengers who most certainly qualify as "Sentient Weapons."

The person asking "who's doing this to you, Wanda?" in Episode 2 was none other than Jimmy Woo, of Ant-Man fame, who was given the tech to broadcast into the Westview bubble by Darcy Lewis, from the Thor films, who is now a full fledged astrophysicist.

Wanda and Visions neighbors were identified by Darcy and SWORD as they watched "episodes" of the show--and so far, most of them are just ordinary civilians. Everyone from Vision's boss to some of Wanda's pals have been locked in as people who lived in Westview before whatever happened to the town happened. The notable exceptions to this are Dottie and Agnes, who have yet to be uncovered.

This is a dark one--Wanda apparently broke into the SWORD facility where Vision's corpse was being kept and stole it--in direct violation of his living will that apparently stipulated he didn't want to be rebuilt or reconfigured in the event of his death. SWORD has security footage of Wanda executing the heist, which looks extremely incriminating at best and downright violent at worst.

This likely means that the Vision we've been seeing in Westview is, in fact, a sort of Synthezoid zombie and Episode 4's jump scare moment was a brief glimpse of reality.

Thanks to Monica's "escape" from the bubble, we were able to learn that the transformative magic of Westview doesn't just cast an illusion, it completely rewrites the fabric of reality. Monica was wearing a kevlar vest when she was pulled in, and her '70s-ified clothes are now actually made of kevlar in the real world.

Episode 5 did not cast the best light on Wanda or her motives. She's able to leave the Westview bubble, apparently at will, and knows full well that SWORD is trying to help the civilians she has trapped.

Vision's growing suspicion of Westview (and of Wanda) is coming to a head, which is bad news for just about everyone. But, as it turns out, he's also able to interfere with the brainwashing of Westview and unlock the civilian's suppressed personalities, if only briefly.

During their big argument, Wanda maintains that she's not the one pulling the strings behind all of Westview and, while this could be denial and the start of an even more intense psychotic break starting to form, it could also be the truth--specifically because she apparently didn't "script" or influence the episode's biggest reveal--the resurrection of her brother. Sort of.

The show's biggest bombshell to date: Wanda--or whoever is actually pulling the strings in Westview--has "recast" Pietro. Literally. Evan Peters, who played Quicksilver in the Fox X-Men franchise, has made the jump to the MCU. Whether this change is permanent or will only last as long as the Westview hex is active has yet to be determined. It's very likely that in addition to being our first official look at the future of the X-Men in the MCU, this is also our first look at the MCU's multiverse in action, bridging the gap between the Fox franchise and the Disney franchise with sitcom style.

Agnes revealed herself in Episode 7 to actually be Agatha Harkness, a powerful witch who has claimed responsibility for most--if not all--of Westview. We just don't know why.

Unfortunately for Billy and Tommy, they were last seen in Agatha's clutches--which might be bad news, depending on Agatha's motives.

Monica crossed through the Westview "hex" yet again and this time came through the experience with genuine superpowers--she can see energy and even withstand Wanda's powers. It's likely that we'll see Monica adopt one of the codenames she's used in the comics, like Photon or Spectrum.
