The final PPV of 2016 is Roadblock, a Raw brand-exclusive show. Taking place at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, this should be the last time the Raw titles are on the line until Royal Rumble at the end of January. This show is closing with a huge champion versus champion match. In addition, we're also getting an Iron Man match featuring two of Raw's biggest women stars. Here is the card for the December 18 show and our predictions.
Kickoff Match: Big Cass vs. Rusev
This whole rivalry started when a naked Enzo Amore bumped into Lana, Rusev's wife, backstage. Rusev felt his wife's honor was insulted, and the Bulgarian Brute took it out on him, week after week. Big Cass, who is seven feet tall, is now seeking revenge on Rusev. He'll get his chance during the kickoff show.
This has been an enjoyable rivalry so far. Both Rusev and the team of Enzo & Big Cass needed something fresh, especially since Rusev is no longer the United States Champion. What's surprising about this match is that it's part of the kickoff show. It feels like it should be on the card and not just the WWE Network. While we'd like to see Rusev take this match, we're thinking this one will go to Big Cass, so the rivalry can continue into the new year.
Our Prediction: Big Cass wins
Sami Zayn vs. Braun Strowman
Since Braun Strowman was drafted to Raw this past summer, he's been looking for a worthwhile opponent. He's gone through numerous jobbers, like Smackdown's James Ellsworth, but no one has been able to topple this beast. Sami Zayn has tried week after week to get a match with Strowman, and at Roadblock, he'll finally get his chance.
Zayn is the ultimate underdog in this match. Strowman is the current unstoppable force in WWE, especially since Brock Lesnar was beaten in under two minutes. As much as we love Sami Zayn, we see this match going to Strowman, with Zayn trying to get a rematch in the upcoming months.
Our Prediction: Strowman wins
TJ Perkins vs. Rich Swann (c) vs. The Brian Kendrick
(For the Cruiserweight Championship)
During the series premiere of the WWE Network's new show 205 Live, Rich Swann won the Cruiserweight Championship. Now, both of the former champs, TJ Perkins and The Brian Kendrick, want a chance to reclaim the belt.
As far as the storyline goes, there's nothing incredibly exciting about this match. 205 Live is new, as is the cruiserweight division, so there hasn't been a lot of time to build up anything between these three competitors, even though Perkins and Kendrick had a solid feud on Raw. However, this will probably be one of the more entertaining matches of the evening, as this division has been a ton of fun to watch. We're guessing Swann will take this, just so the Cruiserweight Championship isn't being passed around too much.
Our Prediction: Swann wins
Seth Rollins vs. Chris Jericho
After tossing insults like "Sparkle Crotch" at wrestler/expert list creator Chris Jericho, Seth Rollins gets to finally throw down with the man of 1004 holds. Jericho cost Rollins his match against Universal Champion Kevin Owens, so this match is all about revenge for him. In a sense, this is a new direction for both characters which seamlessly transitions from the last storyline, so nothing about this feels forced.
It's a bit strange to see that this is a straight forward match, with no stipulations or wrinkles. That may give Rollins a slight advantage. What we should get is a fantastic undercard match, but we're giving the slight advantage to Rollins, which should--in turn--further the rivalry between the two stars.
Our Prediction: Seth Rollins wins
Sasha Banks (c) vs. Charlotte: 30-Minute Iron Man Match
(For the Raw Women's Championship)
Sasha Banks and Charlotte's rivalry on Raw continues to go strong, and it will all come to a head at Roadblock. They've already battled in the first-ever women's Hell in a Cell match, and now, they're having the first main-roster women's Iron Man match. Sasha is familiar with the format, having gone toe-to-toe with Bayley for 30-minutes at NXT Takeover: Respect back in 2015. As we've seen in the past, both Banks and Charlotte put on some incredibly entertaining matches.
That being said, this match could go either way. Both of these women are truly worthy of being champion and wearing that belt. However, because of Banks' experience with the Iron Man format, we're going to give her the slight edge. Plus, we like her better as champion. It's safe to say this is going to be a barn-burner.
Our Prediction: Sasha Banks wins
Kevin Owens (c) vs. Roman Reigns
(For the Universal Championship)
United States Champion Roman Reigns takes on title-holder Kevin Owens for his Universal Championship. The feud started back at Survivor Series when Owens and his best friend--at the time--Chris Jericho blamed Reigns for team Raw losing to team Smackdown at the PPV. Reigns has been questioning whether or not Owens is a real champion, since Jericho has been helping Owens retain his belt, month after month.
Maybe it's the angry mark inside of us or just our love of Kevin Owens as the champion, but we cannot see Roman Reigns winning this one. While we want to see Owens win this clean, we're hoping--deep down--that Jericho plays a role in this to rekindle his friendship with Owens. Sure, it wouldn't be a clean win, but we wouldn't mind seeing this rivalry continue into 2017.
Our Prediction: Kevin Owens wins
